the early-mid 2010s YA book scene was so funny because all the most popular stuff was fantasy and dystopian series with high drama and world-ending threats and then there was like. john green.

it was weird for me too.

abstract and modern art haters are sooo snobby like klein literally Created an entirely new pigment and then painted a canvas in a way where the brush strokes wouldn't be visible. the insinuation that people with no skill could reproduce that is so annoying because unless you are skilled at color mixing and painting you definitely couldn’t lmao

i hope it's okay to add this because i think it hits the nail directly on the head

Honestly, it's like picking up a book and saying "I know all these words, I can type, I could have written this" like there's no middle step between the technical ability and the finished work.

It's saying "I could write this exact book" while holding a copy of the book in your hand. Like yeah shit you could, it's substantially easier to copy words that are already there than to create something from nothing.

Hm

Almost like left, right, and center, have constantly been devauling the importance of art and artists and keep withholding support or removing existing supports.

THIS is the entire attitude that powers AI. No desire to develop technical skills, no interest in the actual work or vision, just a desire for a finished product and a snobby response, as if asking the plagiarism machine to do something was exactly the same as acquiring the skill and doing the technical work.

Klein's entire whole life was spent in pursuit of the purest blue. That was his artistic goal. To find the purest pigment, to figure out how to make the clearest carrier oil. He spent his life on that, because he wanted to see it so much.

So no, you could not make that painting. That painting is only one small step in a life's worth of work. And you cannot simply do it again, because Klein already did it.

I often encourage people to start doing art in abstract art, not representational art, because often artists feel discouraged for the exact same reasons that make people dismiss abstract art: "well that's technically very easy" yes but technical skill is not always what art is about.

Art is a behaviour.

You should not stand at a painting and compare your own skill to it. You should also not stand at a painting and dismiss it because you think your skill is equal or better. The fact is, you are not that person who made that work and you are not living in their time or their location, so you could not make that exact work ever again. You can only make the work that YOU are going to make. Nobody else can do it, only you can. No machine or computer can do it, only you can with your own hands moving the medium around the canvas or shaping it or whatever that medium requires.

Art is the whole point, also. It's the entire point. Of all of this. Of everything we've done. The point is to make sure we have more time to make and enjoy more Art. That's it. That's the point of all humans do and build and make and keep running. That's the point of Society and Government and all of it. It's so we can make more Art and experience more Art.

Because the point is Play, and Art is a kind of Play.

And you can't make a computer play FOR you. You can't play for someone else, or exactly like they do, and you can't ask them to play for you. YOU have got to go and play for yourself. That's how play works.

I also think "I don't like this, but I recognize its artistic merit" is an important phrase in your personal lexicon

abstract art is not generally my thing! I would not put a print of this very blue square on my wall! do I see the work and vision and passion that went into it, and appreciate that? absolutely!

because whether you like something personally doesn't determine its artistic value. you don't have to like all art, but you shouldn't dismiss any art you dislike as Not Real Art Period

did you have to use that photo for that

i mean good on them...? still paired with that image thats uh. interesting

I respect the fuck out of this. The whole site is trying its hardest to go against every selling point the dog robots have as its selling points.

The dog robots are supposed to be autonomous, threehalves is explicitly only for being piloted by a human. The giant horns make it difficult for this machine to enter through doorways, and that is the point. Coupled with the built-in weak points, it is very easy to disable this thing, so it can't be used by the police or the military effectively.

OP alluded to how unsettling the machine looks, and I believe that it was a concious decision; the robot dogs have garnered sympathy due to their apperance, which makes it easier for the police to morally justify their use. This thing? You're not gonna get many people to sympathise with it. The only people who would are monster and-or robot fuckers, and I believe these circles generally understand that a machine cannot be trusted (though of course many would willingly approach it for pervert reasons (positive) knowing full well it's a bad idea).

oh yeah i saw everyone on tiktok freaking out about "if it can't harm humans why does it come with instructions to kill it" it's a safety feature in case of an emergency or malfunction where it needs to be quickly deactivated. "why is it so big and demonic why does it look like that" it's a safety feature so it can do dangerous labor and so you don't feel bad about killing it. "it was designed not to be able to follow you through doors?? why the fuck would it do that that's scary" it's a safety feature so you can't get cornered or have the person piloting it misuse it. "it doesn't have hands but it can attach CHAINSAWS to its limbs???" it's MADE TO WITHSTAND WILDFIRES IT'S NOT GONNA USE IT ON YOU "this thing gives me such bad vibes i do not trust it" GOOD!!! IT'S A ROBOT!!! IT IS A TOOL!!! IT'S A REALLY BIG AND COMPLICATED MACHINE THAT IS DESIGNED TO GO IN DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENTS WHICH WOULD MEAN IT COULD POTENTIALLY MALFUNCTION! USE YOUR BRAIN!!!

admittedly i do think that picture of it standing in the doorway with glowing white eyes is like comically frightening but it's SUPPOSED to be so you don't feel bad for it or approach it

witch hat atelier’s handling of gay representation is arguably just as funny as it is painful because straight out the gate shirahama throws two unmarried men cohabitating and raising multiple children together at you in that special manga way where you can kind of just assume that they’re not officially together purely because it’s not legal in japan. but then in like chapter 50 she introduces two side characters who stare directly into the camera and tell you that gay marriage is legal in zozah so you’re forced to spend the next entire 30-chapter arc wondering what the HELL qifrey’s problem is. and well. then she tells you

"we still don't know what's wrong with olruggio tho" well yes we do. avoidant attachment style

Do the AI people know that the rest of us who never got on the bandwagon are still doing everything the same way we always have

The AI boom has changed literally nothing about my day to day life except I now have to work harder to get access to reliable information, all the important admin work is being done wrong, and I keep getting DMs letting me know the perfectly ordinary and plausible photo I liked was actually a fake image generated by a fascist to generate views and churn out ad money for the purpose of funding their tree-powered puppy-flushing toilet

ADHD affects how I experience time, not how I experience attachment. I love you. I miss you. I just don't realize how long it’s been since I last said that, let alone messaged.

I understand that most normal functioning brains need regular engagement to maintain a bond. Absence doesn’t diminish my affection. My silence isn’t neglect or disinterest. It’s time blindness and object impermanence. The contact gap is purely neurological, not emotional. Thank you for being patient with my inconsistency and holding a seat in your heart for me.

HEY CAN EVERYONE TELL SHEILA THAT THIS IS NOT AN OVERREACTION AND THAT THIS IS INSANE AND YOU NEED TO LEAVE HIM YESTERDAY

GIRL, DUMP HIM

GIRL KILL HIM

girl do not be guilt tripped by a man mudbutting through god's green earth

probably speaks to something unwell in the collective tumblr psyche that those absurdly bleak bad luck brian memes are the only survivors of, like, an entire genre of different advice animal image macros.

people might think creating OC lore involves a lot of thinking & planning, but in my personal experience, OC development is more like a divine vision from a god slamming you over the head with a mallet while ur doing the fuckin dishes or folding laundry
