Trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary people are non-binary.

Intersex people deserve to be respected and given proper medical care. And intersex issues need to be discussed in their own context without connecting them to trans people.

Sex work is real work. We need to protect the people who choose to go into sex work while protecting the victims of trafficking. The only way to protect people who want to leave sex work is to protect people who want to be in sex work.

Vaccines are good and should be mandatory with rare, medical exemptions.

People know themselves best and can define their identities best. Don't tell people how they should call themselves. If someone isn't causing active harm, they're fine. Just let people live and stop worrying about he/him lesbians or whatever. Let people choose their own pronouns.

All human beings are equally valuable. All human beings deserve human rights. Yes, even those people.

Will Trump Destroy the Deep Oceans?
Seabed mining is a threat to both ecology and the international order.

There has been so much turbulence above water in the Strait of Hormuz and now the Red Sea that you’ll be forgiven for missing big news about what is going on under the waves. The United States has created a new Marine Minerals Administration, which will administer the mining of minerals from the seabed in domestic waters. But American firms, with the government’s blessing, are also speeding ahead with plans for mining in international waters, even though the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) bans such unilateral mining.
The seabed is home to tantalizingly vast quantities of minerals. They reside in potato-sized polymetallic nodules, which contain nickel, copper, manganese, cobalt, and, most alluringly, rare earths. Explorers and entrepreneurs have dreamt about mining them since seabed exploration began more than a century ago. Their desire is understandable because the nodules are plentiful. The Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ), a vast expanse between Hawaii and Mexico, is home to an estimated 21.1 billion dry tons of the nodules—more than any other part of the world.
Most of the nodules are situated in international waters like the CCZ, where the depth of the ocean protects them from sedimentation and where the chemistry of the water speeds growth. (Most of the nodules are thought to have begun growing between eight and 32 million years ago.) Closer to shore, in countries’ exclusive economic zones and territorial waters, the nodules are far less abundant.
No one knows what would happen to the seabed, and to marine life, if the world began systematically mining the nodules. Fortunately, mineral resources on land are so plentiful that there hasn’t been a business case for the stressful and expensive work of deep-sea mining. The world’s nations, though, knew that future technology, or the exhaustion of accessible resources, might change that. When adopting UNCLOS in 1982, they agreed that mining in international waters would only be allowed if, and when, the convention’s signatories collectively decided that it was safe to mine the seabed and worked out how the mining could proceed equitably.
Since no nation owns international waters, the signatories also set up an agency, the International Seabed Authority, that would convene negotiations regarding potential mining and oversee it if UNCLOS signatories agreed that it should proceed. To date, they have made no such decision, and the only mining permitted in international waters is for exploration and research purposes.
But the specter of geopolitics now haunts the seabed, too. With the West fundamentally dependent on China for rare earths, the United States has hit on a theoretical solution to make itself independent: deep-sea mining.

Imagine openly announcing that you think democracy is a "genocidal warpath" and "gruesome." I'm waiting for this chode to claim that we should bring back the divine right of kings and give all power to one person.

Do you think they know what democracy is and they're just completely brainwashed by the Internet, or do think they have no idea what the term means and believe democracy means "imperialism" or some such nonsense?

Or do they just not know what democracy means?

I really want it to be awful hyperbole because if its actually sincere......yeah do they want a tyrant? Do they expect to *be* the tyrant? What???

Unfortunately, I think it's along the lines of "Iran shouldn't have democracy because only stupid women want it so they can wear bikinis and be sluts." It's the logic of "the US has this, so it's BAD," without any thought behind it.

The “Israel created Hamas” narrative is just Alex Jones “false flag” “9/11 was an inside job” rhetoric repackaged.

It uses the same manipulation of half-truths to remove agency from the perpetrators of mass terroristic violence and massacres, and place the blame on the country being attacked to vilify it, and incite further attacks against said country.

Osama bin Laden having US agency support in the Soviet-Afghan War in the 80s becomes “Osama bin Laden was a CIA agent” becomes “the CIA orchestrated 9/11”. Israel facilitating Qatari aid to Hamas becomes “Hamas was on Mossad payroll” becomes “Israel created Hamas” becomes “Israel orchestrated 10/7”.

It’s the same lie, with similar goals, just applied to a different conflict.

This argument literally doesn't make sense at all and it further explains how so much of what these people say is nonsense lol. Because let's assume that Israel did send money to Hamas and basically "created" them - according to these people, Hamas aren't terrorists, right?

They're the legitimate government of Gaza resisting 'by any means necessary' lol. So why would it be morally indefensible for Israel to send aid to another government? In fact those Qatari payments which did happen lol, Netanyahu legit sent like suitcases full of money fjdisfjisdf.

But I mean so what? Hamas are legit, right? Israel also handled their water, electrical grid, etc etc. Or could it be that your view of the conflict is literally just shouting nonsense until something sticks?

if Netanyahu funded Hamas then that means Israel was providing aid to Hamas this whole time. You can't have it both ways. Was Israel starving Gaza or were they funding Gaza's government including to civil servants and needy families?

If you view Hamas as the legitimate government of Gaza then Israel providing aid to them should be completely morally defensible. You cant pull "Netanyahu funded hamas" as a gotcha when ur entire political opinion is that Hamas = good guys, legitimate, Israel should be Greater Gaza and israel = bad guys who should all go back to poland.

Cos in that framework Hamas is the legitimate government of a sovereign state and sending them aid including to civilians, workers, etc, is perfectly fine. If you view them as terrorists then obviously this is a scandal. So which is it? Are they legitimate or are they terrorists?

some of it can be explained by the fact these are often different positions from different people (or the same people at different times, as their (mis)understanding of the situation changes), but that doesn’t really explain why they would be able/willing to form a coalition together or have shared goals.

the bigger deeper explanation is that every argument is an ad hoc justification for the position they already have, that Israel is evil and needs to be destroyed. the exact details of the facts don’t matter as long as they point “the right direction”.

Jew-haters are so determined to blame Jews and Israel for everything that it's honestly unreal at times. Wildfires, floods, climate change, wars, economic trends, political scandals... while at the same time being absolutely furious if Jews or Israel actually does do anything.

I swear, Iran could fire off another wave of missiles aimed at civilian areas in Israel and these people would cheer. Hell, one of those missiles could hit the Al-Aqsa Mosque due to inadequate missile defense (because these chucklefucks are all about "Defund the Iron Dome!") and it would still somehow be Israel's fault.

As The Wall Street Journal recently noted, AI-related investment is driving most of the growth in U.S. GDP. Spending on AI data centers accounts for half of all business investment in the country. AI companies made up more than 40 percent of the value of U.S. equity markets before SpaceX went public in June. If OpenAI and Anthropic follow suit later this summer with expected trillion-dollar-plus IPOs, AI companies will account for more than half of the value of the stock market. Indeed, of all the S&P 500’s gains in 2026, 85 percent have come from AI companies.
Or consider the growing national security-AI industrial complex. The U.S. government is becoming a major customer of leading AI companies, deepening entanglements with the Defense Department, CIA, National Security Agency, and others. At work at a mattress store a man asked if I’d heard of these water systems for heating and cooling beds.

“I’m a bit wary, I’ll admit,” I told him. “Putting a large amount of water on something that should absolutely not get wet seems risky.”

“I have one,” he replied. “It’s got like a hundred water chambers so it’s supposed to be completely leak proof.”

“That’s what they said about the Titanic,” I said instantly.

It had seemed so funny in my brain but as it hung in the air between us I profoundly regretted saying it. I’d been so caught in the euphoria of a perfect parry to his statement that I didn’t think it through. Even as I sweated in salesperson I was still a little impressed with the speed of my wit.

I watched his eyes dim and his expression slacken in dismay and I wanted to gobble my very funny but inappropriate joke back into my mouth when he admitted, “Mine leaked.”

I burst out in relieved laughter and he was a good sport. He told me the company had replaced it and it really did help him sleep cooler. I suggested a waterproof protector for underneath it and he readily agreed.
