I'm crying so. every time I post a song, patreon makes me a little video preview that I'm supposed to share to try to draw people to my patreon (a thing I actively avoid doing tbh), and the videos are so so terrible.

like the audio quality is super bad for some reason? and it has an auto-caption engine, but it almost never picks up anything from the songs, usually just shows the song title and pretends it's lyrics, or has an unrelated word showing for the whole preview. like for "Tia" (the beats-removed version of "Take Me Out"), it just had the word "Vocaloid" over it for some reason:

like. what is this. it's even stopped loading the cover art, it's just broken.

anyway, for once in its miserable life, the video preview generator actually did something funny! for "Bl Ls" (the other half of "Lie by Lie"), the auto-caption came up with some lyrics!

like. it's still mostly wrong, but hey, that's something!

I thought it was a site-wide thing, and I've tried in multiple browsers and they all look like this, but now I'm wondering if it's my computer somehow? so I want to make sure this is how it is for everyone.

it's just odd that all audio posts look like this - unless they were made with the legacy editor! all of the old audio posts look just fine! it's only the new ones that don't show the album art, or title/artist, etc.

and I've been through mountains of themes trying to find one that makes audio posts display normally, but none of them do? and I'm starting to lose hope

is it just me? or are they just simple audio players for you as well?

and if it isn't just me, how do I fix it...

I'd like to thank you all for being here and experiencing things with me, and also for indulging my nonsense on a regular basis

I've talked about it a bit on stream before, but my personal goal for 2023 is to Get Weirder™

and part of that is wanting to become more peculiar and strange, but another very real part is embracing the things that I love, wholeheartedly and without shame

you see, I have a following on here. I know that I do. it's a curse and a blessing, and I'm grateful and terrified, but I don't think I'd have it any other way!

but as much as I gloss over the internet drama when it happens, I'm not willing to sacrifice my integrity for internet clout.

I owe it to myself to be honest about the type of person I aim to be, and that person is a weirdo! just a strange little guy! someone who views everything with fascination and wonder, whether it be old books or bad movies or weird fanfic!

so I think you should know that if you come to me saying, "ugh, can you believe people ship these two characters? 😭" my answer will always, always be "ooh, really? that's wild! I wonder what they find appealing about that? I'd like to find out!"

I'm truly just too curious and fascinated by the human mind to have any reservations about what people write about in fanfiction. the only thing I can ever be is enthusiastic!

(I mean, I've read Garfield fic to you on stream before. do I really seem like a guy that gets easily squicked by weird ships? hell no! I love it!)

so basically, yes - I will continue to avoid fandom drama, as I always do, because I really would just prefer not to be involved.

but I'm also not going to stay silent about just how much I love the weird, dark, and obscure corners of fandom, because those are my people!

I just...love the way people love things! I love the way they take them apart and put them back together! I love seeing bizarre headcanons and "wouldn't it be fucked up if..." posts, and crackfic and rarepairs and everything else that's a part of the beautiful world that is fandom!

and I'm not willing to pretend that I don't, just to satisfy the people that keep trying to start shit in my notes. it's just...not worth it.

so, my message to you is this: find something you love, and don't be afraid to get weird about it! that's what I've been doing, and I'm having a great time!

there are a few songs on tumblr where I've done both halves (you can see which ones here if you're on desktop/in browser), but for a while it wasn't a thing I did regularly - it was more work for me to edit both halves, upload them, come up with titles, etc, so I just. didn't.

but when I made a patreon page in 2020, I started making both halves every time, and putting them up on there! as of right now, I've got 181 other-halves up there, and I put another up whenever I post a song on tumblr!

some of them are very different, some of them sound the same, and sometimes they even sound slightly...better? than the ones I choose to put on the blog.

(which half of the song I choose to put on the blog varies depending on what vibe I'm feeling. well, that and the F.U.C.K. method, of course.)

(that's not a joke! I'm with a group of nerds and we're all crashing in one house so we can play d&d for 6-10 hours today, and then pass out from exhaustion and maybe watch a movie! it's great!)
