yeah i'm definitely going to have to submit this to one of those poll blogs to get a better sample size

the kids are calling them "stone fruits." they start off small—think cherries. then they're hooked and they need a quick fix, they get peaches, maybe some nectarines. it's all they can think about. before you know it, they're trying the really hard stuff—apricots, plums. once they taste a mango there's no going back.

in general I'm entirely against shoving fandom stuff (and any kind of fan interaction tbh) into the faces of creators, artists, etc, who should be left alone at all costs.

but sometimes I read a romance novel written by someone who has to have a tumblr, like they just have to, and some part of me wishes I could find them so I can send an ask like, "hey, love your book! so on a scale from 1-10, how horny are you for trans!Link/Sidon? and did you like the movie The Lighthouse, or did the lack of detail about lighthouse functionality really bother you? just curious"

Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” that was written in 1950 is set on the day of August 4th, 2026 (tomorrow)!! Now’s your chance to read it around the time it’s based in!

I used to set this one for second year undergraduate creative writing seminars on writing science fiction on a double bill with Octavia E. Butler's "Bloodchild" and no-one here gets out alive.

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
