buncha doodles building on a silly idea where gene meets jean. i was like "haha! wouldnt that be funny. surely i won't take this crackship seriously" like a fool.

i think in canon gene wouldn't go out of his way to interact with jean. these are set in a DP AU where paula steps down as the head of studio to return to directing and, without a lot of options left, jean is chosen to return. of course she's expected to treat her employees better...since she's permanently stuck with newly-hired HR manager gene, who was employed after the events of DP because of jean's practices. shenanigans ensue, half of them involve jean trying to get rid of gene in increasingly convoluted ways, or trying to bribe him with varying results. meanwhile gene's kind of intimidated by jean but he still tries his best to do his job. he's nice to her to a fault, it's not clear if he's actually aware of what jean's trying to do to him...whatever's the case, jean finds out he's not that easy to get rid of.

jean's not really THAT bad anymore, honestly, she knows for a fact she's not above any consequences this time around. she just doesn't want this little thing following her all the time. what a comedy duo!

horror movie director/massive film critic is a fun dynamic i feel

janelle johnson dreamproductions fills such an interesting role in the story so she has such a unique perspective. in the main cast, she's the person who knew paula the most, but she also becomes paula's biggest rival. the spotlight and pressure is turned on her as the newest director on the block + head of studio's current favorite. it's her first time flying solo and struggled a bit on her first dream but still managed to make a banger. i know it's paula's story but i also wish we could've seen how janelle managed all of that. and THEN she had to deal with paula's bullshit-not-bullshit on top of it where she unpacks just a little bit of her feelings wrt how paula treated her. she's awesome

we yes WE gotta repopulate the dreamprod tag with janelle fanworks to restore the balance of the universe. it's what she deserves
