Taylor Hebert getting the Hydro Archon's hydrokinesis... but Focalors also tagged along after her self-execution and has frequent debates with Taylor and can put a lid on her control over water if she gets too Impulsive (like, say, attempt to destroy Leviathan half a globe away)
needless to say, poor girl is frustrated with all that power and the lack of actual use for it (because she has to actually Think about how and why she's using the power first or else Focalors shuts her down lmao)
though I'm only a few chapters in and these isn't much yet apart from teasing out the premise so far
"Because I should have the right to use my powers. That's the entire point of having powers." 'So I should just remain quiet, obey your commands, and allow you to ignore me whenever I bring up whatever issues I might have with your choices? How is that in any way different from how you fear people in a position of authority would treat you?' That brought her up short. It wasn't the same. That's what she wanted to say. Pissed at the thought of being compared to people who ignored and downplayed other people's issues. Because she was doing this to help people, to get rid of the problems in Brockton Bay that nobody seemed willing to do anything about. "I don't… look, I just…." She didn't have the words. There was anger, frustration, resentment - more.
the pay-off for this is a Taylor that can actually account for the consequences of her actions... or blowing up in a spectacular way when she gets too overwhelmed at trying to be actually responsible lol
here's hoping Focalors can use her 500 years of leading Fontaine into herding this poor traumatized girl
