Genre: Historical Fantasy, Urban Fantasy

Current Status: Second draft

POV: Third person

Themes: Found Family, Heists, Magic versus Machines, Self Discovery, Adventure, Loneliness

Synopsis: When Velia Greene accepts her newest job, she thinks nothing of it. A three day train ride, a secret piece of cargo--simple enough for a thief who can slip right past any security. After all, Velia’s never been caught. How could she be, when nobody can see her?

It’s lonely, being invisible to everyone until they care for you. But it does give you an excellent advantage at sneaking.

But on the train, everything starts to go wrong. Four passengers overhear her and discover her presence. A strange man somehow sees her immediately. The cargo is more precious than she could’ve imagined, and there’s someone aboard who will stop at nothing to get it before the train arrives...

Placeholder Title: Stars and Ships

Genre: Sci fi

Current Status: Zero draft, plotting

POV: Third person, multiple narrators

Themes: Found Family, Heists, Adventure, Treasure hunt, Maybe the real treasure was the friends we found along the way, Criminals on the run

Synopsis: Jax Castle is the best junker this side of the Milky Way. That’s probably cause the junker business is just a front for his real skills: smuggling. Together with his team Aaliyah the mercenary and little brother Quin the pilot, there isn’t any job they can’t do!

It’s a dangerous life, always hiding from the authorities, always staying below the radar, but like previously stated, there isn’t anything they can’t do.

Unfortunately, once they meet Sepia Windsor along with his crazy scheme, the authorities start cropping up everywhere. The crew didn’t even agree to help the kid, but before they know it, they’re recruiting other dubious help, landing themselves in the biggest prison in the galaxy, and becoming the top wanted criminals in the whole universe. And the so called treasure may not even be real. They are NOT getting paid enough for this; if they survive, Jax is going to kill that Sepia kid. Or maybe himself. He’s not particular.

Invisible Girl Excerpt

By my records, it has been 2 years since I started working on my wip The Invisible Girl (title still under construction, alas) and I thought today might be the day to finally try and share a big chunk of what’s new in my many docs! Big thank you to everyone here who’s cheered me on and gotten to know my little characters--you guys make the writing experience that much richer. :) And without further ado...

Lewis grumbled an agreement, anger waning. “So, what do we do until sunrise?”
Antonio cocked his head, a gleam appearing in his dark eyes. “I might have an idea.”
Antonio having a rather awful track record at ideas, Velia’s hopes weren’t very buoyant as he led them through the city, first on another trolley car and then on foot, muttering repeatedly that they ought to be close by now, this was really the right part of the city. The right part of the city, was apparently a decently well off area with brightly lit streets and cafes and restaurants, and even a movie theater, which certainly weren’t commonplace.
“This is your great idea?” Lewis demanded as they pulled a fast halt in front of an elaborate restaurant titled The Swan. “What, are we going to go in and wash dishes?”
“I could offer to play for them,” Paris said. “If they have a spare violin lying around.”
Fynn and Velia both snorted out a laugh. Antonio looked affronted. “What,” he said, “None of you have stomachs? None of you eat?”
Paris sighed. “None of us can afford this kind of place, Antonio.”
Antonio blinked, his confused and sheepish face sliding on again. He struggled for words, but Paris just patted him gently and led the way down the street. They turned the corner and slowed down near an Italian place that boasted the city’s best lasagna.
“I work in a place like this back home,” Paris said wistfully. “They give me free meals when I perform.”
“Remind me to stop by and hear you sometimes,” Antonio said. “All of us should go—a reunion of sorts.”
There would be no happy reunion at the end of this, Velia reminded herself as Paris continued on. There would only be the boys getting together to lament the loss of their hopes, and Velia alone and richer. Richer. She straightened her shoulders and chimed in with a soft, yes, yes, that’s a plan.
Paris finally called a halt at the door of a place without a sign out front. A faded but clean wooden door had a poster nailed to the front, advertising breakfast all day and free coffee with any order.
Antonio did his best not to wrinkle his nose. “Oh. It’s not…I don’t know—a bit dodgy?”
“This place?” Lewis’s laugh was tart and sudden; the squirt of a citrus wedge. “You should see some of the squalor out in the east side of New York, Mr. West.”
Antonio flushed, and Velia could tell he didn’t know how he felt about which part of that statement. Meekly he fell into line behind her as they went inside.
A gentle wave of noise washed over Velia, from the low clatter of silverware to the stout woman behind the counter with a faded red bandana wrapped around her head, calling orders through the rectangular window into the kitchen. Square tables cluttered up the room, and gas lamps on the wall cast a cheery yellow glow down on to the patrons. Antonio backed up a step and nearly squashed Fynn.
“Welcome,” the woman in the bandana called, waving a spatula. “Table for four?”
“Uh, five,” Paris said, awkwardly waving back at her. “We might be meeting a friend.”
Another woman in a different colored bandana appeared, holding menus in one hand and a pitcher of water in the other, and led them across the room to a table tucked near the wall. “Just bring your orders up to the counter when you’s ready,” she instructed, thumping down the pitcher and five cups.
Velia slowly sank into the extra chair. Fynn passed her a menu.

I’m so excited to share my new sci fi OCs with you all--meet the crew! It’s all still under construction, of course, but I thought I’d introduce the first versions of these guys anyways :) click for better quality because hellsite 🙄

Top left: Thresh! A retired mercenary that may or may not be no longer retired... just a tired dad™, always ready with a snack or a sword. Sometimes both, because he doesn’t really differentiate between the two. *face palm*
Top center: Jax, the captain, diplomat, and daring junker (smuggler)! Orphaned at a young age, he quickly turned to a life of crime to support his baby brother, and is actually pretty good at it! Disaster bisexual who fell in love with Aaliyah, a fellow bisexual.
Top right: The aforementioned Aaliyah, hired assassin who grew up training with Thresh, then instead of taking out Jax, fell in love with him and stayed on as part of his very small crew. blah blah the assassin you hired is part of my found family now meme.
Middle left: Vi, Thresh’s sorta adopted kid. Found in the wreckage of a blow apart ship, she hasn’t spoken much since the accident, but Thresh doesn’t care--he’s teaching her how to shoot anyways. Cause kids and weapons always works out well. Space buns SPACE BUNS!!
Middle center: Quin, Jax’s little brother, the pilot! After a terrible accident, now also the resident cyborg, with a kickass metal leg that only works some times. Broody and sarcastic at times, we can’t fault him for it, because he was all but raised by his brother and the assassin girlfriend his brother picked up, and they kinda suck at parenting...
Middle right: Sepia just wanted to hire a good pilot. Now he’s involved with real criminals and totally out of his depth! Alternatively known as moneybags, Sepia tries to get the crew for a job and what he gets is them all thrown in jail almost instantly. Hey, at least he’s good at something, okay?
Bottom left: Selene is a hacker, which means she’s constantly on the run from the law, and she fits right in with the crew! Friendly and capable, it’s a good thing she’s around, since she’s more than half the brain cell at any given time...unfortunately, there’s more to her than meets the appreciative eye.
Bottom center: Spoilers: Aakov is the mechanic, for those who know, and those who don’t! They really only bring him along to fix stuff, but he’s charming, and police aren’t as mean around him, which is an added bonus. I can’t believe the ship held together so long without him anyways.

Day 8: Who is your favorite character from your secondary WIP (alternatively: who is your 2nd favorite character from your main WIP?)

Let’s talk about Untitled Spy WIP again!

So, my favorite character would have to be Lucian Reynolds, who is a 23 year old spy/martial artist. Here he is, lookin all cool with his gun:

He really interests me as a character, because his quiet and good nature is constantly at odds with his violent profession. He’s had a series of unfortunate unlucky accidents, which have gotten him demoted and widely ridiculed throughout the job, and he knows if he messes up again he’ll be fired. He grew up on a rural farm with an abusive father, who taught him how to fight, and he holds everyone away from himself, for fear he’ll get attached to them and then lose them.

(This is one of those characters where you write some depressing backstory and then look at yourself, rather concerned)

Anyway, I love him, and I hope he finds some happiness soon! (evil laugh)

30 Day Writeblr Challenge

Day 4: Who is your favorite character from your main WIP?

Hello Writeblr! It was so fun to see everyone’s amazing and interesting ideas yesterday--and now we get to hear about characters??? I can’t wait.

Hmm, this one is a hard question! Right now...I would have to say this idiot. (a quick sketch for you!)

His name is Paris Carlo and he is one of the four “train boys” as I call them, who accidentally discover Velia’s secret. He’s a violinist, and plays every night at a small café, but also has to do some unloading work down at the docks to help his mother pay rent. He’s rather quiet and suspicious, and slowly learns how to trust people. Is he maybe a self insert character? No comment.
