this panel is genuinely so fascinating to me cuz it implies a level of respect that bruce has for an extremely small number of people. he has enough faith in ralph's detective skills to think he'd be able to sense him in the shadows, and him being surprised doesn't even lower bruce's view of him at all. bruce genuinely wants to collaborate with ralph on this, he sees him as an equal. this isn't at all wavered by ralph's silliness in the rest of the interaction. this is a level of respect bruce shows to barely anyone, and yet he has it for elongated man. its a respect he gives because he sees him as a coworker, being both a superhero and a detective. and it's so fun from a meta perspective because the reason this choice was made was probably because of ralph's long tenure on the back-ups of detective comics. this is just such a cool, interesting characterization choice, i love it.
