Ok I need to talk about one particular moment in this episode because it’s making me insane.

Thee and Peach are talking about Peach growing up in an orphanage, and Peach admits to worrying that that could impact how Thee feels about him. Thee reassures him that it just makes him love Peach more, and Peach reacts to that by kind of chuckling, looking away, and stretching his arms.

But this time it’s not because he’s rolling his eyes at Thee’s antics—it’s because he’s flustered.

Then he says this:

But look at his body language: the raised eyebrows, the smirk. This is not him being all “Get a grip, Khun Thee”, this is him being cheeky and flirty. He stares into Thee’s eyes as he says it.

Another person might have responded with something like “Oh really? Is that what you want?” But Thee is endlessly earnest, and he never wants to assume anything, so he asks, straightforwardly, “Can I stay here tonight?”

And how does Peach react? He stares intensely at him.

Then at his lips.

Then at his chest.

This all happens in a few seconds. After this he makes a joke about not having a bathtub or butlers, because he’s feeling a lot of things, and he’s trying to lighten the mood, but Thee replies that Peach is all he needs. And then Peach visibly gulps.

I love how Phuwin played this scene, because Peach is not a showy guy and he wouldn’t flirt in an overly obvious way. In fact if you watch the scene without really paying attention, you could read it as Thee inviting himself over and Peach going “Ok sure”, but it’s anything but that.

I just started the servant prince and um, wow. Why did no one tell me how good this show is?? (You all told me how good this show is.) Why are there no posts about how delicious the dom/sub dynamic is?? (There are many posts about how delicious the dom/sub dynamic is.) Anyway I can’t believe I had to find out about this show all by myself!

Some of the discourse around the sex scene in ep 8 of Don’t Be Too Emotional just reinforces my belief that a lot of people only watch BL as a substitute for porn. “The penis can’t go inside if his legs are like that.” Babe it’s a show. It’s a show about a guy who makes blood pacts with people for no real reason, and he’s either a demon or just a real weird dude. Truly who cares how the legs are positioned. If you want to be absolutely sure that the dick is going inside, there are many many websites for that. There’s people who do that for a living. I know that society teaches women and queer people to be ashamed of their sexual impulses, and that BL maybe feels like a way to engage with that part of yourself without having to really acknowledge it, but it’s just you and your computer. You don’t have to keep up the pretense of watching for the plot. If what you’re really here for is to fast forward to nc scenes, just go watch porn.

Watarai: I have a massive crush on Hioki, but I’m gonna hold back and let us get to know each other before I tell him.

Asamiya: HOLDING BACK? I DON’T KNOW HER. I’M TOUCHING YOUR HAIR, I’M DRESSING YOU UP IN A MESH TOP AND CHOKER FOR VERY OBVIOUSLY PERSONAL REASONS, I’M LICKING YOUR ICE CREAM CONE. WE’RE ON A DATE BTW, THIS IS A DATE. CAN I WALK YOU HOME EVERY DAY? I’M SO HAPPY I COULD DIE

i’ve been really liking love destiny, but i don’t understand a lot of the writing decisions for this episode…

*minor criticism below*

great is supposed to be our main character, with dech as the romantic lead. this episode was about 45 minutes long, and we spent about 10 of them with great and dech together.

we spent about 15 minutes on hetero nonsense sri’s love story. we spent a good portion on horse shenanigans, which built up to… a mildly angry conversation? with no real consequence? i get that the whole point of it was to get great to take care of dech, but i think more thought could’ve been put into it.

all this leads me to…

the fact that we got 3-4 minute moments of great and dech together scattered between 10+ minute scenes of ~literally everything else~ means that we didn’t get enough time to build up the emotions between them, or the romantic/sexual tension. which is why, imo, that first almost kiss scene didn’t really work.

i don’t think the issue is with the actors, because we’ve seen them have great chemistry in other scenes. i do think that august was doing a better job at conveying desire with his facial expressions than leng, but i think the issue was mostly with the direction and cinematography. the shot was too wide, and too static. if they wanted us to *feel* that dech and great were flustered as great helped dech undress, then the camera should have shown us that: close-up shots of great’s hands unbuttoning dech’s shirt, of dech’s skin being slowly revealed. closer shots of dech looking back at great, and of great peeking at dech’s body. and also more desire/nervousness on great’s face as he leans in for a kiss. i think leng could’ve delivered that if he’d been directed differently.

i’m mostly disappointed because this show does a lot of things well so i really wanted the romantic build-up from past episodes to pay off in a well-executed way.

am i the only one who was disappointed by this episode? what did everyone else think?

PLEASEEEEE. We’ve been so good and so patient. Because what do you mean Great and Dech are going to go horse riding together, and Dech will get injured so Great will not only help with his injury, but also shave him and bathe him???

If Asamiya's superpower is being gay-forward, Mayama's ability is to rationalize his advances through a platonic filter. When Asamiya tenderly requests to caress his hair, he readily capitulates. Even when Asamiya wiped the cream off Mayama's lips and puts it in his mouth, Mayama's delusion persists:

Mayama even maintains his bedhead in preparation for morning headpats:

Asamiya is our beloved freak, but clearly he's in good company with Mayama because when Asamiya drops this yearning sentiment:

Mayama responds without comment, instead presenting him with a gift:

Asamiya volleys back with the most unhinged line yet:

And Mayama calmly counters with pragmatism:

The brilliant aspect of this pairing is how Mayama keeps Asamiya grounded, while remaining kind and thoughtful. Even better yet, Asamiya responds to his feedback with refreshing willingness.

Asamiya levels up his flirting by asking Mayama to cover up with his jacket so no one sees him sweat in a white t-shirt, admitting that he'd enjoy the sight personally.

Mayama barely even pauses before he obediently puts Asamiya's jacket on and enjoys the scent. Clearly these guys are made for each other.

Even their stretching was equally playful, with Mayama immediately getting vengeance on Asamiya for pushing him.

Asamiya unknowingly mirrors Mayama's earlier actions when he hugs him from behind and inhales his scent.

Shockingly, Mayama still manages to interpret this as a gesture of pure friendship.

Thankfully, Mayama's denseness is unable to defeat Asamiya's Superbeam of Puppylove. When his friends take a photo of them hugging, Asamiya declares it will be his heirloom:

It's also wonderful to see that when Asamiya gets jealous of his friends talking to Mayama, Mayama immediately expresses his discomfort:

And receives an apology:

The Asamiya follows up by checking to see if Mayama is ok with being on the festival comittee with him, adding:

Which finally gets through to Mayama, though he's too riddled with insecurity at the moment to accept. Still, I have immense faith in Asamiya's pupply-like devotion.

Peach 🤝🏼 Mayama

Looking a love declaration right in the face and going “Friendship, got it”
