everybody! quick! tell me what aro joy means to you <2
everytime you headcanon a character as aroallo the world gets about five times brighter btw
anyone else remember in 2016 when thomas sanders made a post saying aspec people are valid and his popularity took an immediate downturn and people started manufacturing callout posts against him. far be it from me to defend the guy i haven’t been tapped into what he’s up to in over a decade but it makes me feel so tinfoil hat like. remembering that it factually happened. bitches were deadass posting about how he was problematic and displaying inappropriate behavior with minors by. making vines with a teacher and her high school classes.
if you infantilize me for being asexual i'm straight up killing you. and when i strew your intestines across the ground like a macabre piece of art and soak myself in blood and gore i'll earn myself that explicit label don't you worry
being asexual leaves me more time to think about the horrifying and repulsive methods of torture i could put you through for being a dick about the fact that i'm just not interested in sex. call that 18+ content the way i would never subject a child to what i'm about to put you through
sorry i dont understand the warm milk joke? what does that mean?
it’s soooo stupid it’s genuinely not that deep it just pisses me off. but when ace discourse was big ppl liked to make fake asexual blogs to like. y’know. create a public perspective of ace people being cringe or stupid or homophobic or whatever. which sounds fucking unhinged but i promise it was happening. anyway someone made this post (i’ll put it below i actually hate looking at it) and it got rlly big because it’s soooooo funny and cringe and can you believe ace people really act like they’re queer and oppressed… what a joke… anyway. genuinely pisses me off. below the cut so i don’t have to look at it 🖤
someone made a warm milk joke at me out loud in person earlier which! cool cool cool yeah awesome! great joke! i’m so glad we could have this moment together! really delightful addition to the conversation! I Will Kill Us Both And Take The Rest Of This House Party With Us
they (total stranger to me) made a joke about my friend not being a qualified commenter on things being hot and i said “justice for asexual perverts” (real hit with the room) and they made a joke about giving me a glass of milk. ok cool so aspec ppl can’t be sex repulsed and we can’t be recreationally interested in sex either? made fun of for being grossed out and innocent and then made fun of for being into it too? awesome. cool. sick. i’m sending fucking bombs to your house
like it’s not that deep but also it’s so clear that people went “ok i guess bullying ace people isn’t cool and trendy anymore” and mostly stopped being vitriolic but never paused to like. actually look at the way that people were treated. yeah i’m sure warm milk is a funny haha joke to people who were on the other side of it! unfortunately i was an ace teenager online in 2016 and i saw how devastated our community was and how all those fuckass psyop posts that became widespread jokes were a huge part of normalizing the air of disdain toward us. and even if it wasn’t connected to the larger trend of harassment at the time, it’s still not fun or cool to be the target of constant jokes that say everyone like you is cringe and stupid and childish and undeserving of respect. it really sucked actually. i wasn’t personally a fan. wasn’t the end of the world but it certainly had a significant impact on my developing sense of self worth and identity. so i’m sooooo glad that people can look back on that time fondly and think it was funny and bring it back as a fun little reference when someone mentions their identity but personally i actually don’t enjoy it. and i lowkey hope you die. warm milk joke out loud to my face in august 2026 btw

Talking to allo people who haven’t really interrogated how society has told them to view sex feels like that bit in SpongeBob where Patrick keeps failing to put his hand on the lid
Sex is just a thing. No it’s just an activity. It doesn’t have to be… no listen it’s just an activity. An activity. It’s just a thing. A thing. No it’s not the same for everyone it’s just an activity. No it’s a value neutral activity. An activity. An activity.
I’ve been experiencing this lately with people trying to argue with me about my views on sex work.
“You can’t compare sex work to other types of work because having sex you’re not enthusiastic about is really traumatizing”
I’m sure for a lot of people that’s true but for me sex and masturbation occupy a similar emotional space to brushing my teeth or doing the dishes and I certainly don’t feel traumatized about it and I know for a fact that I’m not the only person who feels this way.
Also I think that someone physically and violently forcing me to brush my teeth might end up being traumatizing.
Sex is so taboo and mythologized that people have forgotten the mechanics of it.
Yeah sex might be sacred and important to you. To me it’s a chore I’ve gotta do sometimes. Like cooking. I love cooking and put great importance on it and who I do it with. A lot of people just cook to live though.
Yeah if to you sex has a lot of emotions caught up in it I’m not gonna tell you that you’re wrong for feeling that way. That’s normal. It’s not a universal experience though. And if you can’t accept that, then too bad. Other people’s personal realities don’t exist to confirm your personal worldview.
What a beautiful picture you paint
3, 6, 10 and 18 for the arospec ask game :3
3. do you go by strictly aromantic or fall under one of the arospec umbrella labels?
they call me aro boy!! as far as i'm concerned i am really solidly in the Aromantic category. the idea of a scale of less to more aromantic feels really fallacious but i am like. probably what people would imagine as the blueprint of an aromantic person. i am the most beautiful gorgeous person on earth and none of those bitches can have me <3
6. do you own any arospec pride merch? if so, can we see?
answered here!
10. what frustrates you the most about amatonormativity?
dear god. hell of a question. it's not so much of a frustration as a deep grief but i'm often thinking about people (especially women) who get stuck in relationships because they're trained to think that they're better off with someone terrible than being alone. or being with other people/having a support system in a way that's not romantic. wives on tiktok posting about their husbands' terrible behavior and then defending them like... idk. we can all see the pattern. we know what's going on. but the chances of the theory that could be really helpful to those people actually getting to them are really low. breaks my heart. and a lot of people will say "yeah but that's patriarchy and misogyny" and i think it's important to note how those systemic structures interact and support and spawn one another. seen a lot of posts lately of people complaining when other people bring up amatonormativity in the context of a societal problem because they think it's like. detracting? from having a conversation about misogyny and structural patriarchy? but the whole point of naming amatonormativity is to have a framework with which to conceptualize and discuss those systemic issues. it's not an independent idea because none of our social constructs and biases and bigotries are independent from each other. anyway... idk. save every woman from romance.
18. do you engage in fandom shipping, or do you avoid it? (platonic, romantic, etc, shipping.)
personally i will like a ship dynamic and set an ao3 tag to list by kudos and just read my way through for months at a time. when it comes to actually talking to people about it? no FUCKING thank you. closest i've ever come to that is posting about the good omens guys when the first season had just come out and saying that they were aspec representation and immediately getting rude as hell comments calling me homophobic. so! i will write fanfiction and insert romance so that i can get the dopamine hit of online attention but that's about as close as i get to classic fandom interaction.
(speaking of good omens. fuck neil gaiman. i have like. an old piece about crowley though that's lowkey my manifesto on aromanticism and angelicism. since i've been linking my ao3 today already.)
i don't like being in fandom spaces to begin with honestly, it stresses me out... i keep my mutual circle highly curated and speak into my echo chamber and it's awesome. nobody ever knows what the fuck i'm talking about and that's the way i like it.
i do have a supernatural blog and will speak to people about destiel but that's because destiel is like. a fact of life. i don't believe in structural romance but destiel is like a sociological phenomenon to me and babe i'm a fucking anthropologist
6, 7, and 16 for the arospec asks? :)
6. do you own any arospec pride merch? if so, can we see?
yes!! my aro pride flag lives in my room forever :) unless i'm wearing it to pride obvi 🙂↕️
7. do you experience any forms of attraction? i.e., romantic, platonic, aesthetic, sensual, sexual, etc.
lowkey no... i definitely like. Like People A Lot. would identify with the term squish (though i haven't really used that since i was a teenager). i've said before i enjoy being mutually psychosexually obsessed with someone without the sex part?? that's where i'd put my relationship with my wife haha. if i described it at the bare bones people might label it a qpr but i'm not personally fond of that. cause i Don't think i feel platonically about her... forever i am being so for real about the secret third thing...
but i don't think i really like. identify with any other labeled forms of attraction in a way that matters to me. i live in my own beautiful world with my own beautiful feelings that don't have a name cause they're Just Mine and it's wonderful forever and ever amen :)
16. do you have any arospec OCs, if so tell us about them?
augh. many!! unfortunately most of my ocs are for the purposes of original roleplays and therefore belong to highly specific scenarios that i don't have the time for. but i will give you my character playlists for my first ever aro oc (his name is kitt and he was working through a lot of things around being aspec just like me <3) and my personal favorite aro oc (her name is elzie and she is Thee performance of a manic pixie dream girl with a cold and calculating demeanor. my babygirl).
AND ACTUALLY. i forgot i have old as hell writing for both of them up on my ao3. christ. okay.
you are NOT allowed to judge me for this one i was sixteen at the time. i am trusting you all with this as a relic of old times. kitt was originally a traveling merchant who dealt in magical artifacts and secrets but here he is in the normal world going to college for the first time 👍
you can judge me for this one it's far more recent and i'm actually very fond of it. elzie lives in a fantasy setting but what's really important is that she's from a noble household and is living like. regency era? ish? lifestyle? anyway. i don't think there's any context you really need for it but if you come across anything wild. just keep going. my girl <333333
+ their playlists!
i've said this before but i've been up on being aro from a really early age!! i'll give myself credit for being like. nine or ten and telling my dad that i was sick of all the romance in books. he told me that i would get over that but i truly never did... genuinely using The Label though i was thirteen :) read the definition of asexuality in teen vogue and did some research online and got up on fuckin. aven. read a bunch of tumblr posts on pinterest. nd i came out to my friends for the first time at my eighth grade end-of-year science class party :)
ID: a tweet by @_AshJOY on 01 Jan 26. Asexuality and aromanticism have an incredible amount of political value that deserves to be acknowledged. With the way that amatonormativity is woven throughout various social structure, our experiences provided much needed perspective surrounding the nuance of connection. End ID
