Curls, part 1

please no editing or concrit, I'm so tired, darlings, and I just needed to write something soft and aching and easy

It hits Jason while he’s perched on a rooftop. Which… of course it does. He’s almost always perched on a rooftop. That’s the problem.

He came back from the dead, but did he ever really start to live again?

He’s hardly connected with the world. His best relationships are with the food cart vendors and corner store abuelas that he’ll exhaustively grab food from around his patrols. He doesn’t know his neighbors in any of his safe houses, even though he owns the buildings. He tries his hardest not to talk to his… to the other… to the Bats. Because it always ends in a fight or cutting words or other things that Jason can’t take anymore even if it’s his fault as often as it’s not.

He’s not living, he’s just a vengeful ghost.

Jason and Danny start dating, and then at some point Vlad shows up to a Wayne charity gala while Danny is there with Dan, Ellie, and Jackie. Vlad spots Ellie, and confronts her. Ellie yells stranger danger, and Vlad says something along the lines of "I am your FATHER". Hence followed by "You're not my real mom! Jason is my real mom!". (Logic is: Danny=Dad. Remembers having a Mom and a Dad. Therefore, other parent=Mom.) Then Vlad gets weird looks while he tries to figure out who the fuck Jason is.

Jason walks up, having heard the commotion, and says "Yo." Vlad scoffs at him, and says "And who are you?" To which, Jason replies: "Her mom, apparently."

March for More: Names

"...Do you need a pad or tampon or something?"

Danny, Jason's roommate, blinks and sputters in confusion from where he sits on the floor in a pool of blood, "Wh-what??"

Jason pauses, wondering if he had been wrong about Danny wearing a binder around the dorm, but no. He and Danny had been roommates for a while and Jason knew a binder when he saw one. So, why is he... oh shit.

"Shit, are you bleeding out right now?" Jason fumbles to take off his jacket, trying to hurry into the dorm so he can help. "Just- wait a sec, I've got a first aid kit."

Danny only stares, a hand pressed tight to his ribs where he's either been cut or shot and shit, Jason needs to see it to know what he's working with. "I- you don't need to-" Danny tries to say as Jason settles in front of him, but Jason only sets down the kit and glares until his roommate moves his hands.

"Shit," Jason hisses as blood begins leaking out of what is clearly not a stab or gunshot wound but something fucking gruesome and... Holy shit, did someone torture him, what the fuck? Jason shakes off the thought, grabbing antiseptic and stitches and gauze—fuck this is gonna suck.

As he works, Danny sits still, practically lifeless, and if it weren't for the occasional hiss or flinch, Jason would think he'd completely disassociated. And if it weren't for the blood on his hands and the gasping body below him, Jason would probably already be out the door. Searching, hunting, killing whoever the fuck did this.

What Jason is stitching up right now isn't just the typical Gotham street crime, isn't a stick-up gone wrong or a hit and run or a gang war, no. This is intentional, like being tied down in a crumbling building and beaten and broken and teased with the salvation of passing out. Jason would know.

He shakes his head, this isn't the same. Danny, sitting in front of him and breathing shakily, is alive. He's alive, and whoever did this won't be soon enough.

"Names. Give me their fucking names, Danny."

Jason: This is my brother Dick.

Danny: Short for Dickolas?

Dick: What? No, short for-

Jason: Yep. Short for Dickolas. This is my other brother Tim, short for Timbelina. And my sisters Cass and Steph. Short for Cassanova and Stethoscope.

Danny: *Nodding seriously*

Dick fighting for his life not knowing Danny and Jason are both shitting on him😭

I like to think that Dick is the only one trying to make a good first impression while the other batkids immediately picked up on their chaotic introduction so they would go "That's right my name's Stethoscope" and sound genuine. Duke and Damian are the only one's with proper name introduction mostly for the lack of nickname and feral gremlin

Dead on Main Sugar Daddy

AKA "Ghost King Danny unintentionally becomes Jason "Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss" Todd's sugar daddy" prompt!

This is kind of a continuation of Graveyard Favors, but not really lmao.

I just love the idea of Jason coming back from the dead, wearing all Expensive Clothes and literally ancient cursed jewelry, and Bruce is just like, "Where did you get that? I didn't buy it for you. You haven't used your allowance either?" And Jason's obviously not going to admit he has the High King of Infinite Realms, Space, and the Dead as a sugar daddy. (Maybe he would, he's a dramatic theatre kid at heart, but it's funnier if he just straight up lies.)

He says, "I'm literally a crime lord, old man, keep up?? Jesus."

But the more he thinks about it, the more he actually likes the idea. Jason wants to help people, make sure they never experience the same fate he did, and where else to do it than the place he grew up? He knows there are tons of kids he can help, families who have a lack of resources. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty - he's already killed the Joker.

So, Jason calls up his Ghost King sugar daddy, points to Crime Alley, and is like, "I want that."

Danny, in Tucker's ratty Amity-U hoodie and ripped jeans, cheesepuff sticking halfway out of his mouth, "What???"

Danny declares Crime Alley as Jason's Haunt. It's officially Jason's territory in both the human realm and the Ghost Zome; conveniently, that also means that no supernatural (dead or alive) can enter the territory without Jason knowing. It also makes Crime Alley emit major Do Not vibes. Bad guys feel this Dread of being watched constantly, residents feel a bit safer knowing there's somebody who will help if they're in danger, and Jason patrols often enough that everybody starts to associate him as the local crime lord. He also uses Danny's money to invest in some social programs in Crime Alley, like open access food pantries, shelters, domestic violence & sexual assault support, a community garden, little libraries, funding for after school activities, etc.

Because the former Ghost King is absolutely loaded. Danny has eons of old stuff piled in his throne room in the Ghost Zone from Aztec Gold to alien technology. He's not using it and nobody's gonna miss it, so if Jason asks for it, Danny gives it to him. (Does he know Jason is selling it for an absolute shitton of money? Maybe, maybe not. He doesn't really care where it ends up as long as it won't cause the apocalypse.)

So, yeah, that's how Jason actually becomes the crime lord of Crime Alley.

Co-Parenting Clones

AKA "Dead on Main idea where Jason Todd accidentally-on-purpose adopts kid!Dani and Dan without realizing their 'father' is literally the High King of Infinite Realms, Space, and the Dead" prompt!

Ngl, this is somewhat inspired by that one family who's cat had another family and they didn't realize until the cat came back in a little outfit.

Imagine 10-year-old Dani in an Etsy Phantom hoodie and 14-year-old Dan with a spiky bedazzled jacket. Jason's like, "What's that?? I didn't buy that for you??" And they say, no, our other dad did!! :)

And then it just kind of morphs into a divorced-parents-getting-back-together trope where Jason casually mentions his "kids' dad" and people just assume he's separated. Why should he correct them? He's never met this "Danny" guy, but he's still Dan & Dani's other dad and they clearly love him. So what if people end up calling Jason "Danny's husband"? (He doesn't know why Constantine called him the "King's consort" that one time and Constantine really didn't have time to explain before Jason straight-up decked him in the face.)

Danny, who's probably in his 20s or something at this point, is just eating ramen when Sam and Tucker bust into his apartment.

"When were you going to tell us you were married to the Red Hood?? The Crime Prince of Gotham?? Danny, you're married to a legitimate crime lord???"

Danny, noodle hanging out of mouth: What??

So, yeah, that's how Danny finds out he's apparently married. Clearly, Danny has to go searching this evil-ass Cursed City for his wayward clone kids and find out who his "husband" is.

Danny: You wanna go to a book festival with me this weekend?

Jason: You don't like books, or reading?

Danny: Nope. But I like you, and you like books and reading so I thought it would be fun.

Jason, choked up: Oh.

Danny: You don't want to?

Jason: Ye-Yeah I wanna go, sounds fun. Unrelated, what's your ring size?

DP x DC Prompt - Remember My Name

Inspired by this prompt and this fanart

-

Dick and Steph manage to blackmail convince Jason to join them all to go to a concert for this artist he’s never heard of. Steph insists that Ember is amazing and that he’ll love her music, but he isn’t holding his breath.

When they arrive at the venue, Dick surprises them again with front row seats, much to Jason’s chagrin. Now it’ll be that much harder to leave.

The concert starts, and the warm-up act comes out. It’s a young man wearing all black and white, with hair so white it’s practically glowing. Jason didn’t have high expectations for this concert, so when this guy starts singing, he’s completely blown away by how amazing he is. His voice is deep and rich and haunting. Jason is completely drawn in. He feels like his heart is beating in time with the music. This is the most peaceful he’s felt since Ra’s.

The guy works the crowd up and it’s obvious he’s having fun getting everyone pumped up. Then during the final song of their set, the guy makes eye contact with Jason. As he’s singing, he tilts his head slightly in confusion, his eyes slowly moving up and down Jason. Then he smirks at Jason and his eyes glow Lazarus green as he winks at him.

Jason is in shock as the guy finishes his set and then Ember comes out.

And Jason momentarily forgets about the opening act as Ember begins playing.

If he felt calm before, now Jason feels like he’s reached mf Nirvana. It’s like the Pit has finally, finally gone completely silent. Not even a whisper. It’s just him and the music.

Dick is surprised by how into the music Jason is. Maybe he won’t be so against the backstage passes Dick also bought after all.

-

Danny ended up in the Ghost Zone after his accident and just wandered around until he bumped into Ember. She taught him about being a ghost and later on, how to harness his voice. She tells him he’s a banshee of sorts, because he died screaming. He’s not sure how he feels about that.

After a while, she gets him to start his own band and they jam out for a while. Danny mentions the portal one day and Ember begs him to show her.

Thus begins Ember Mclain’s world tour.

Danny puts a cap on the mind control aspects real quick. He convinces Ember that the best way to continuously feed her obsession is to just play so well and make her concerts so awesome that people will be crawling all over each other just to get closer.

Danny goes with her since it’s been a while since Ember died, and he’s been with her for most of his afterlife anyways. She manages to convince him to start opening for her, and it’s actually pretty fun.

During the show in Gotham, Danny notices an ecto signature close by. When he locks eyes with the blue eyed man with the streak of white in his black hair, Danny knows he’s looking at another ghost. Another halfa. He’s so happy to see that their own people are at this show too. He flares his ecto for just a moment in solidarity and grins at the surprised look on the man’s face.

It’s nice to know he’s not so alone in this world.

Streamer Danny AU, but he’s a really minor streamer. Like, he does it mainly just for his own fun and only has a few intermittent viewers.

But somehow Jason finds his channel anyway, and something about his voice is captivating. The pit rage quiets down in his presence. So he starts tuning in to basically every stream, or just putting on the VODs in the background to fall asleep to.

And on the other side, Danny takes note of this new subscriber who’s quite possibly his first truly dedicated viewer. So he starts interacting with him on stream sometimes - greeting him when he shows up in the chat, specifically asking/answering questions, etc

Needless to say, this did not help Jason’s growing semi-parasocial crush in the slightest…

Jason texting: Hey, it's Jay. Alfred said we can keep the cow, but you have to take the seal lion back.
Danny texting back: I think you have the wrong number, but I want to know how you got a cow and a seal lion. That must have been a story.
Jason: How do I know you aren't Damian pretending not to be Damian? You pulled this on me three times already.
Danny: Did he? And you fell for it three times?Have you never texted before? Why not save his number into your phone so he can't trick you anymore???
Jason: I don't know how to do that. I am behind technology wise because of the years I missed while dead.
Danny: Is that slang for prison?
Jason: You ask a lot of questions. Is this Bruce?
Danny: No, my name is Danny. Sorry about all the questions. You just sound fascinating. Like a Mr. Darcy hiding on the side of the room but in the chat room instead of the ballroom.
Jason: Well, thank you. That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me.
Jason hours later texting the Batfam group chat: Catch you all later. Im going to meet a stranger I found on the Internet.

Dead on main writing prompt: Jason gets dosed by a rogue and accidentally exposes his and Danny's relationship......

“And this GIW kidnap ghosts?” Batman asks.

“Totally, Dad.” Jason nods. “But you can’t tell anyone I’m a ghost!” Jason claims.

“You don’t want them to get you?” Diana questions.

“Me?” Jason scoffs, “I don’t give a fuck about me. I just don’t want them to get Danny again.” He says in a duh kind of tone.

“Danny’s a ghost?” Dick asks in shock.

Jason smiles again, “He’s a Halfa; like me.”

“Two Halfas exist?” Zatanna asks sounding shocked.

Jason laughs, “Don’t be silly. There are four of us: Me, My husband, My husband’s clone, and that one asshole.”

“You and Danny are married!” Dick yells.

“Yes, Dickwing. My husband and I are in fact married.” Jason states.

“Why didn’t you invite me to your wedding?!” Dick doesn’t do a very good job hiding the hurt in his voice.

“I will invite you to the human one.”

“Wait, your wedding was a ghost one?” Dick asks.

“Duh.” Jason nods, “we’re only legally married in the Ghost Zone.” Jason then quickly adds, “Or Infinite Realms.” Jason shrugs, “Whatever you want to call it.”

“You’ve been to the infinite realms?” Constatine asks.

“Yeah.” Jason laughs. Then, stops as if realizing something, “Oh, My God.” He looks at his older brother, “Big Bird, Did I tell you that I met Jane Austin? Because I fucking met Jane Austin!”

“That’s- great, Little Wing.” Dick says in shock.

Single Dad Dead on Main

AKA "Danny is the ghost-equivalent of a foster parent for de-aged Dani and Dan. Jason's just wondering who the hell these two feral meta children are." prompt idea!

Danny thinks he's doing an okay job at being a single dad of two. They're living in a quaint two bedroom apartment in Park Row, he's managing his Ghost King money well, and the kids haven't died (again). (He's definitely not getting a "World's Greatest Dad" mug anytime soon, but, hey, at least the house hasn't burned down yet!)

...Until he wakes up from his nap to an eerily silent apartment.

If there's one thing he's learned over the last few months, it's that silence is not good. He's scrambling off the couch fast enough to give himself a headache, practically flying down the hallway so he can get to the kids' room. Ellie is wedged halfway under her bunk bed. Dan's also squished under the bed but quickly squirms out when he realizes Danny's standing in the door way. He's holding... a socket wrench??

"...do I want to know what you two are doing?" Danny deadpans.

Ellie scrambles out as well, smears of something oily on her cheek. For a seven and eight year old, they have surprisingly convincing I'm innocent! expressions.

"I dunno," Ellie singsongs while Dan simultaneously barks, "Nothing!"

Danny squints. The kids squint back. Yeah, there's definitely something under the bed that's not supposed to be there. Since Dan's holding a wrench (and where the hell did he get that?? Danny doesn't even own any tools aside from maybe a little rubber mallet he found in the hallway closet), Danny hopes thinks it's not an animal.

It takes a minute of arguing in which Danny promises not to be mad, let them eat ice cream, and let them stay up an hour later than curfew for the kids to even let him near the bed without biting him. (Jokes on them, the ice cream is sugar free and Danny's going to reset the clocks to an hour before. Check and mate, bitch! Parenting is so easy.)

And then Danny pulls out... a tire. No, a rim. Two tire rims. Oh, Ancients. Engraved on the tire rim is a red Bat symbol. His stomach nearly drops to the floor; everybody in Crime Alley knows what the Red Hood's symbol looks like. "Eight Heads in a Duffle Bag," Crime Prince of Gotham with a gang big enough to take over all of Park Row. And yeah, Danny could easily beat the guy, but that doesn't mean he wants to. He doesn't want to uproot Dan and Ellie from their schools, move cities, run from yet another organization that wants them dead.

"How did you get this?" Danny asks, utterly dumbfounded.

"I dunno," Ellie says, just as Dan's saying, "Nowhere."

(Danny takes it back. Parenting is definitely not easy.)

"Danielle. Daniel. Where did you get these tire rims?" Danny asks again, more stern this time, to which he only gets shrugs. And that's when he notices the window is open and the screen his missing. "You're kidding me. Did you climb out the window? We're on the third floor!"

"We flew, duh." Ellie rolls her eyes, only shooting a wide-eyed, guilty look to Dan when he elbows her with a vicious shuddup!

"I-okay. Here's what we're going to do. We'll... just return the rims. It's not like the Red Hood saw you two steal them-," Danny stops when Ellie and Dan give each other a side-eye. He knows that look. It's the same look he and Jazz used to give each other when they had a silent agreement about something. Oh, no. No, no, no.

"...he didn't see you, did he?"

Another side-eye look. Oh, Ancients. At least there's no way the Red Hood knows where they are, right?

(Jason stares at the kids playing with his bike. He's not stupid enough to think they couldn't have been paid to sabotage it, but the way the little girl hikes herself up onto the seat and pretends to rev the engine makes him think otherwise. It's cute. The boy mostly seems interested in the engraved bat symbol on his tire rims, scraping at it like it's a 3D decal.

"I wanna be a bicycle-rider when I get bigger. I'll wear the jacket and everything!" The little girl laughs, deepening her voice before saying, "I'm a bicycle-rider! I'll beat you up!"

Jason snorts. He's leaning against the fire escape balcony overhead and it's dark enough for them not to see him, but they both freeze at the soft sound. When nothing happens, the kids relax again.

"It's a motorist, stupid. C'mon, help me take this off and I'll build you one."

"You wanna take the tire? Why?"

"'Cus of the symbol! It's the Batman symbol, do you know how scared people are of 'em? Show 'em this and nobody'll mess with us."

The kid's got a point. Crime Alley knows Red Hood's symbol like the back of their hand, but somehow Jason doesn't think rolling around a tire rim is going to have the same effect. Jason's about to step in when the kid bends the fucking metal with his bare hand. His fucking bike. It looks like the kid barely broke a sweat, too; just wiped his hands on his jeans and started prying apart front of his motorcycle.

Jason's voice is more biting than he means for it to when he shouts, "Hey!" He swings over the fire escape, landing with a heavy thud, before hauling ass towards the kids. Almost immediately the boy yanks the girl behind him and snarls... and his eyes go Lazarus-green. Jason stops abruptly. His voice is softer, gentler, when he tries again.

"Hey, kid. Don't you know not to go tearing apart people's bikes? C'mon, at least do it the right way."

That makes the boy pause, looking momentarily baffled and the green turning into bright blue. Jason takes that as an in and says, "Y'know, it's a lot faster when you use tools. I've got a wrench in my bag. If you use it like this..."

Jason spends the next thirty-five minutes helping the kids steal his own damn rims. He shouldn't. But he's curious about who these meta kids are and they're almost painfully easy to talk with, they just blabber like they've never heard of keeping a secret before in their lives. They talk about their dad, school, their favorite tv show. And then they talk about "the bad men" and Jason's stomach drops. "The bad men" who drive white vans, capture people, and experiment on them. And that sounds an awful lot like a meta-trafficking ring in his city, dead set on coming after the kids and their dad.

Then he's very, very grateful he's letting the kids take his rims home. After all, what Bat doesn't put GPS trackers in their symbols?)

Danny: *jumps on the back of Red Hood's motorcycle* Drive! Drive! Drive!

Red Hood: *starts speeding* What are you running from?!

Danny: I was hired to attend a wedding and yell "I object on account the Groom cheated on the Bride with his sister!" I thought the Bride was the one that hired me! I was actually hired by the Groom's Ex-girlfriend! She just wanted to ruin his wedding!

Red Hood: *cackles* Did you at least get paid?

Danny: Yeah but this money has bad karma! I need to donate it to charity to cleanse it. You know any good women's shelters?

Red Hood: I'll hook you up with a guy, he knows all the best shelters in the city!

Danny: Thanks man! You know, for a Crime Lord you're a solid dude.
