Ahead of schedule and under budget

@hyphenndash

she/ her. Not very active here!

Welcome to my blog!

I can't believe it took this long for me to create a proper introduction! Somehow that never happened to my other socials.

This will be quite long, because I just like talking/ putting my thoughts into words in general.

This post will include things about me, hobbies, and mischellaneous.

My activity here: sharing things I find interesting! Spacecraft facts and observations, nature, textposts, fundraisers, and me talking to myself.

Here's my art-only blog (which is just mainly my spacecraft gjinkas)

Username: I am a woman of many names. And after great consideration (my former name here, "Onya" sounds similar to an AoT character and I don't like that.) I've settled for another name I also usually use (also this name is even older lol). Call me Hyph, which is pronounced "Heef". Hyphen is also okay I guess?

Pronouns: she/ her.

Age and education: I'm a legal adult. Formerly majored in Fashion design, but now in Graphic design because I realized I just love sewing and looking at fits that go hard, not designing them. Also I work better with digital art programs, the times I've seen Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is more than that I've seen the sun.

Online status: I barely touch social media in general, really. Scrolling has long been something kinda alien to me; now I just prefer checking on what my favorite people are doing, then leave.

★☆HOBBIES☆★

Art: currently trying to get better at traditional art because I feel like I really suck at using any medium that isn't colored pencils. Personifications of all things have always been my strength, have been doing it since forever. Other than that I just love designing characters and having fun with the human anatomy! My biggest weakness are animals...

Graphic design: I've always been fascinated by thoughtful branding, and the use of fonts, elements, etc in creating engagment of the customer/ viewer. Lukewarm take; Corp. Memphis style isn't bad, it's just executed horribly by capitalism. *tearing up looking at Corporate Memphis style* Look how they massacred my boy...

✦ I FUCKING LOVE FRUTIGER AERO!!!!!!!

Activity:

✦ I love travelling, and trains are my favorite means of transport!

✦ Sewing, and embroidering. I also love putting buttons on everthing.

★☆INTERESTS☆★

Space, and spacecraft: it's mostly what I post about. Nancy Grace Roman space telescope is my personal blorbo.

✦ I really wish I knew more about physics to dig deeper into this interest. Everytime I want to know more I just hope someone on the internet has already explained the spacecraft/ the universe like I'm 5.

☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆

History of fashion/ cosmetics: this is actually a byproduct of me liking graphic design. Branding now doesn't have that classic appeal... Looking at good vintage ads/ packaging of these items naturally made me fall in love with the actual things advertised back then. 70s was hell of an era, and I strive to wear like that whenever I can.

☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆

Any considerable fandoms? Honestly I don't know, because I feel like an outsider sometimes due to the lack of engagement. But when I do, these are the ones I like to make content for and would love to make more friends with similar interests:

✦ 17776: peak fiction. I don't really want to say anything more because you just have to experience all of it yourself, blind.

✦ Splatoon: been here since Splat2's DLC release. Live laugh love Marina.

✦ Limbus Company: the only gacha game I sold my soul to. Hold my hand and stare at the sun together if you're a fan of the 5th Sinner.

✦ Team Fortress 2: my favorite batch of idiots. It feels really nice to be in an old community.

✦ Monument Mythos (analog horror series by Eva Casanas): single-handedly made me interested in American culture and history, through a very unorthodox method.

✦ Homestuck/ Hiveswap: made my teenage years about more 70% interesting/ worse at the same time.

☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆…━━━━━·:*☆

☆ I also enjoy other things such as nature (plants and birds specifically) and photography.

Thank you so much for reading allat +❤ฺ·。Here are some nuggets to snack on!

I don't have a habit of using tags (yet) so I suppose you guys will have to deal with that.

"Learn the fundamentals first" seems like really sound universal advice, and as a former classical musician, I can vouch for it. You will have a more solid foundation for increasing complexity if you put in the time to study in a structured way. If you don't, you'll have a lot of shit to fix later.

As a former music teacher, I can also say that "learn the fundamentals first" is the death knell for a vast percentage of beginners, especially adult learners.

I've run into this with drawing several times, where some well-meaning artist has lectured me on needing to study anatomy properly or not use shortcuts like CSP brushes. And oh, believe me, I know. I know exactly how to learn an artistic discipline in a structured way. I just...don't want to!

The thing is, I'm not aiming to be a professional artist. I want to draw my gay little anime guys. I would undoubtedly improve at art much faster if I approached every gay little anime guy drawing as a study exercise. But I would also have quit drawing a decade ago if I couldn't just let myself enjoy drawing imperfect fucked-up little guys with whatever shortcuts I needed to body myself across the finish line.

With my adult piano students, my approach was always "What's your goal?" If their goal was to learn exactly one Elton John songbook to play at parties, then...that's what we did. We'd put tape on the keys to label the notes, and just fuckin go for it. Learning exactly one Elton John songbook is a good and noble musical goal, full stop.

Some of my students needed and enjoyed a more structured approach to learning; if they wanted to be able to play classical music, then yes, scales were going to have to enter the equation at some point. And yet others would learn the Elton John songbook, catch their white whale, and realize they wanted to explore more of the ocean. The scales were still there for them to learn!

Often the choice isn't between "learn art well" and "learn art imperfectly" - the choice is between "learn art imperfectly" and "don't do art at all." To which I say, learn imperfectly! Or, what the hell, don't 'learn' art. Just do, and enjoy the doing of it.

You have official permission from your local pretentious classical music snob: fuck the fundamentals. You can always unfuck them later (but only if you want to).

This song has been stuck in my head ever since it's release and as I try to figure out what's the story behind it, I realized that this song applies to Jupiter space missons (Galileo, Juno, Juice, Clipper) horribly well. To quote my favorite part of it: "Depressurize Sign off goodbye Into your space here I dive.

If we must die Let us die million billion times Until we are moons of Jupiter."

Ever since I made the connection I can't help but weep a little thinking about my lovely probes. Like wdym death is inevitable for them. Nooo don't kill yourself your so sexy haha /ref I'd like to make an edit or something with this song, but it's harder than I thought lol

TIL there are 3 little lego figurines attached to Juno, just found out about this after reading random shit about her 'cause I got sad about the mission again. And just like Juice, Juno also has a Galileo tribute plaque travelling with her to space too.

Rest in power queen

It's Juno launch day today!! She's 15 now holy shit

I don't have anything for her... But this post.

P/S: "Rest in power" your ass Juno lives for another 5 thousand years affirmative

part of being an adult is figuring out what eveyone else's definition of "going crazy" is. to you it is not sleeping for 60 hours, writing 80k words in one sitting and expiriencing enough anxiety to kill a horse. to beth from accounting its buying a ticket to Columbus, Ohio. and to your friend its consuming so much ketamine you lose all of your posessions and wake up with five broken bones in a ditch somewhere and then proceeding to do it again the next day. to your other friend its writing a letter to their favourite actress about how much they appreciate her work. to your neighbour its laughing loudly in a grocery store whilst in pajamas. maya from uni hears the voice of her dead father making jokes with no punchlines and she considers that to be quite normal - to her going crazy would be hearing her husband instead. your downstairs neighbour will take night walks naked sometimes and claim there is nothing weird about him. there are literally no rules to life and all meaning is in the eye of the beholder.
