shen jiu gets hit with some spell/artifact that erases all of his bad or traumatic memories. and the other peak lords then have to deal with this....nice????.... shen jiu while they try and find a cure. the worst part is, shen jiu sort of remembers all of the peak lords EXCEPT for yue qingyuan. shen jiu has NO idea who yue qingyuan is and the sect leader is DEVASTATED.

It really is unfortunate that shen yuan being an unreliable narrator often makes people misunderstand his character. "Shen Yuan was lazy and stole shen jiu's cultivation." In truth, Shen jiu's cultivation was extremely unstable and he was far behind all the other peak lords.
It was shen yuan who entered the caves right after unlocking the ooc function and cultivated in seclusion for several months.
In short:
can we be real? while shen yuan didn't "steal shen jiu's cultivation" any more than he 'stole' his body (ie. It wasn't a conscious choice) i think this is inaccurate and a little unfair. Yes, shen jiu had unstable qi and was the only peak lord yet to attain late-stage core formation due to years of abuse, a much later start than the others, and possibly demonic cultivation learned under wu yanzi did some damage to him, but He is still the one who cultivated his golden core and got that body to mid-stage. that's an ENORMOUS feat considering his setbacks (another reason he's so bitter: he knows perfectly well he could have been even stronger, maybe even binghe level). There's a reason he was Head Disciple - he was a true prodigy. shen yuan even says in wonder that he thought shen jiu's cultivation was impressive before he learned how many things held him back and crippled his cultivation.
So i don't really like giving credit for this to shen yuan, because shen jiu really did make it easy for him. shen yuan worked hard but shen jiu had already suffered through all the hardest work to even form a golden core, and shen yuan had no heart demons (because no significant trauma) so he wasn't crippled by unstable qi like shen jiu. he had the body without any of the trauma it was holding on to when it was shen jiu's.

i feel like it isn't stressed enough that shen jiu and yue qingyuan are fucking goats. they started out as slaves where the practice of slavery was in its peak of brutality considering that pidw/svsss (when luo binghe was born) are approximately set to have happened in the late moments of the shang dynasty transitioning into the earliest moments of the ching dynasty (though my history might be wrong so feel free to correct me on that<3), which means that shen jiu and yue qingyuan were born into the shang dynasty, which, historically, is noted to be one of the two dynasties which had the most extreme practices regarding labor and human life (slavery). the two literally had two years and a half (?) to go from the bottom of the hierarchy to being not just disciples but head disciples of one of the biggest and influential four sects....
not to mention that both are probably also cultivation geniuses. not only did yue qingyuan suffer being literally broken inside-out to fix his cultivation to reforge it the way you fix your weapon, but he somehow recovered and fully linked his soul with xuan su for only one year before he was sent to the battlefield to fight tianlang-jun, a literal heavenly demon, and defeated him with a sword that has his soul (a literal human's soul vs a deity from heaven that couldn't get away from past traumas, developed heart demons, and 'fell from grace', but is still considered to be 'out of this world'-powerful where, even if he got ambushed, still took a lot of lives...do you know how drastic that comparison is). then we have shen jiu, whos cultivation was literally beyond saving but he still somehow got an unadulterated sword like xiu ya, surpassed his peers (like qi-ge, like xiao-jiu) even though he entered severely late, and literally managed to put up a good fight against liu qingge, who is the definition of prodigy.
and the only reason all of their ambitions weren't done is because they just weren't the main character...
i aspire to be this locked in.

Alright… I keep seeing Liu Qingge slander in fanfics and meta— especially with respect to Shen Jiu— and it’s starting to get on my nerves.
Liu Qingge did not hate Shen Jiu because of a misunderstanding on his part!
Liu Qingge did not assume he was a rich and arrogant young master (I have no idea where this idea came from), nor is there any indication he particularly cared about the brothel visits. He hated Shen Jiu because of his actual behaviors!
Shen Jiu treated him horribly after Liu Qingge beat him in Cang Qiong Mountain’s annual martial arts tournament:
Within Cang Qiong Mountain, the one he undoubtedly hated most was Liu Qingge. Liu Qingge had achieved success in his youth; his talents were extraordinary, his spiritual energy vast, and his swordplay awe-inspiring. His family background was excellent, and both his parents were alive. Any one of these things would have been enough to make Shen Qingqiu gnash his teeth and toss and turn for three days and three nights, let alone all of them together in one person. During Cang Qiong Mountain’s annual martial arts tournament, Shen Qingqiu’s opponent had been Liu Qingge. Naturally, the conclusion had been an overwhelming loss on his part. There was no shame in losing to the future Bai Zhan Peak Lord, or perhaps one should say that this was how it should be. That it was normal. But Shen Qingqiu would absolutely never think such things. What he saw wasn’t the bystanders’ amazement at how he’d valiantly held out for so long but Liu Qingge’s matter-of-fact arrogance as he held the point of Cheng Luan’s blade inches from his throat. Qing Jing Peak prided itself on being the gentleman’s peak, and Shen Qingqiu took to playing a gentleman like a fish to water. Yet Liu Qingge was always able to make his rage boil to the surface, to the point that he didn’t bother wasting energy playing nice with his sect sibling. The thing Shen Qingqiu most often said to Liu Qingge was: “Liu Qingge, I’ll definitely kill you one day!”

As Shen Qingqiu had turned a deaf ear to his every plea, Yue Qingyuan found it difficult to speak further. After all, he couldn’t straight-up tell him something like: If you hadn’t used every means to ambush Liu Qingge after the meet in order to teach him a lesson, the two of you wouldn’t fly into a rage at the slightest contact now, nor would you loathe the mere sight of each other.

A lot of fanfics have Liu Qingge regularly dragging Shen Jiu out of brothels, but in actuality the only time he confronted Shen Jiu at one was due to Shen Jiu giving a different Bai Zhan disciple a severe beating:
Though conflict often erupted between Shen Qingqiu and Bai Zhan Peak, the conflict this time was truly overblown. A Bai Zhan Peak disciple had gone to this small, remote town for a task, where he had just happened to see a familiar person enter the largest brothel in the area, the Warm Red Pavilion. From top to bottom, Bai Zhan Peak felt the same as Liu Qingge: none of them harbored any goodwill toward Shen Qingqiu. Therefore the disciple had obviously refused to let this chance pass by; he’d directly followed Shen Qingqiu into the brothel, then mocked him for being a hypocrite and actually entering this sort of place, saying that he’d lost face for their entire sect. After a couple of undiplomatic words, Shen Qingqiu had beaten him severely, leaving him with serious injuries. When this disciple returned to Bai Zhan Peak, he’d run into Liu Qingge. After questioning him, Liu Qingge had been steaming with rage, he had promptly rushed over on his sword for payback, ready to hit Shen Qingqiu back for every blow.

So Liu Qingge only interrupted him at the Warm Red Pavilion to get payback on behalf of another Bai Zhan disciple. The text doesn’t mention him making a single comment about the brothel visit itself.

The only misunderstanding between the two occurred after their mutual hatred was well established:
i never really got why people think that liu qingge would have even hated shen jiu for being a "rich and arrogant young master" if he WAS one. like - that's EXACTLY what liu qingge is! it would be the very definition of hypocrisy!
not to mention i assumed everyone knew shen jiu came from a pretty poor background because of how he looked and dressed when he first showed up at cang qiong after being on the road with a wanted criminal still wearing the clothes he wore as a slave, and the fact he started cultivating so much later than a wealthy young master would be able to.
