Anonymous asked:

You ever read Junji Itos Frankenstein?

Shockingly, NO! At least, not the whole thing. That's still on my list, but I am obsessed with his Creature. He is disgusting (complimentary) and so upsetting.

I always really appreciate artists who lean hard into a design that's primally terrifying, and boy, we can always count on Junji Ito to do just that and then some. Some of my personal favorite Creature designs are ones that trigger that instinctual stomach-drop when you look at him. He should be terrifying! But he's been done so many times, it's pretty hard to do, so designs like this one are always super impressive. They feel both true to the novel and very distinct.

i got inspired by antique furniture -> decided to try and make a wooden doll.

she is whittled entirely out of balsa wood with a craft knife, and colored with wood dye. the cabinet has miniature hinges made of tube beads and a metal rod, and closes with a magnet. she absolutely should hold a sentimental & important object, but i don't have any that are the correct size, so i just put in some cute trinkets.

the thing about female characters and marriage and motherhood and other societal expectations is that if you actually spend time examining their relationships to those roles you can get really interesting results! but people aren’t doing that! why is this character married for the finale? because she’s a woman and that’s what they do!

Lil style experiment on Horde Prime

I don’t know what this style is closest to? I’ve been calling it ‘art deco’ inspired but idk if that’s right. It also reminds me of like Total Drama Island lmao

The biggest effort in trying this was making all the lines connect in some way, I guess be ultra efficient with each line building more than one shape as much as possible. And also everything leading into the hologram of the heart of Etheria

Okay, I'll go and visit your doll collecting friend IF you can promise me that the dolls aren't secretly people. Don't laugh, I'm not being ridiculous. This is the fourth friend with dolls we've visited and they always turn out to be people. I'm not exaggerating! There was the little kid who shrunk people down and put them in her dollhouse, there was the old woman with the porcelain doll collection that were all haunted with the spirits of dead people, there was your cousin whose action figures came to life -- yes that last one counts! I don't care if the action figures weren't previously human, coming to life as thinking feeling beings makes them people!

Honestly this is getting to be a bit much. If the dolls are gonna be people again, tell me. I'm starting to think I'm not ready for this level of friend visitation commitment. I'm beginning to regret starting to date you so soon after my previous boyfriend mysteriously disappeared on the very day that you started your funko pop collection.

For the last time I'm not being a hypocrite. My labubus aren't people. I put the souls of my previous pets in there so that they can live forever. Kitty cats are not people.

And I didn't bring up your friend whose pokemon cards manifest actual pokemon when played because frankly I'm not familiar enough with the franchise to make that judgement. Especially after he got rid of the smiling little man.

most importantly if you learn about things you will be able to understand art better. or whatever fag shit it is you like

Hi friends who study animals, want to study animals, or just want to learn more!!!

There is an online anthrozoology (like the study of relationships between humans and animals) conference coming up on September 4th and 5th.

If you want, you should go ahead and pre-register! (It is free). I spoke and interned last year, and it was so enjoyable and educational, and also a great chance to network and learn from academics in other parts of the world.
