the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

I know meburgers are something of a joke and also kind of gross to think about, but when I read the last chapter of the book and Grace says "I love meburgers. I have one every day," I did cry a little. Because after all the trials and tribulations of Tau Ceti and the trip to Erid, he has something he likes to eat! It's weird and outside human norms and probably would have freaked him out back on Earth but we are well past there being any point in denying practical solutions or simple pleasures. He was worried about starving to death, first alone in a spaceship and then on a planet where the food would kill him faster than the lack of it. And even after the Eridians could reliably make him things that would keep him alive, it was a while before any of it tasted good (even bearing in mind how much his standards for something "tasting good" must have gone down). But now he loves meburgers. He has one every day.

the thing about State Parks is they range from Pleasant Nothingburger #52 to The Tightest Shit You Ever Saw That Nobody's Heard Of

imagine randomly stumbling across Palouse Falls State Park in the middle of bugfuck nowhere single-lane highway and fields in every direction. it could happen to you. it happened to me.

“Well…we are watching a guy who is going to kill himself today. Robby is going to kill himself today. Most likely. He’s going to leave and not come back. And as that reality gets increasingly clear to him, he acts continually beneath his grace. He doesn’t necessarily want people to miss him. He doesn’t necessarily want people to over idealize him because he doesn’t want them to mythologize him.

So, some people he was really tender with and some people he was really harsh with and some people he will carry regret with and some people he probably wishes he had gone further.

But all of that pathology was on display as a cry for help for anybody who was really looking to see it. More than I felt it was indicative of how he felt in a normal frame of mind in those relationships.

He pushed Abbot so far away. He pushed Dana so far away. He was overly harsh with Mohan. He was almost paternal with Javadi. He had a different vibe and energy with everybody. But ultimately it was to say goodbye.

I’m glad people felt [Robbys behavior] wasn’t appropriate because it was a man setting fire [to his life].”

can i give some advice for people checking in for medical appointments/walk ins

when you go up to the counter say what you're there for and then pause and let the receptionist ask you for information before going further. i can't tell you how many people bowl us over with information before we even have their chart up, and won't let us get a word in to ask for DOB/name/etc. plus then if you're in the wrong place we can redirect you without spending a ton of time with information that isn't relevant to the interaction at hand and get you in and out quicker!!
