john price x price!reader
warning : slightly suggestive at the end.
john didn't even know how it happened.
it was a thursday afternoon, price was typing on his computer since four hours now, trying to go home as early as possible. his head was aching, his back muscles burning, but he couldn't just leave his paperwork just yet.
soon enough, multiple soft knocks were heard against his door.
"come in." john said while clearing his throat, dry after the time he spent working in silence in his office.
a woman entered the room, he couldn't recall her name but he knew she was a secretary, he talked to her a few time at the coffee machine. he raised an eyebrow and slightly straightened up, quite astonished by her unannounced visit.
"sorry to bother you, captain" she first said while staying at the threshold of the door, clearly not wanting to interrupt him in his work. "have you seen mrs price ? i've been trying to reach out to her for an urgent matter, but couldn't find her."
price's eyebrows furrowed even more, he didn't talk at first, trying to see if she was joking. seeing the woman squirm slightly at the entrance of the door, waiting for an answer and maybe a bit uncomfortable by john's silence, he spoke up, "um..." he looked at her up and down briefly, "i'm not sure." was the only thing he managed to say. he watched the woman exiting his office after she quickly thanked him.
after he was alone again, his eyes were on his door. who was mrs price ? he had no idea someone had the same name as him, let alone a woman. and why did the secretary think he would know where she was ?
after thinking about it for a minute, he quickly went back to work and what happened left his mind completely. until few days later.
price was talking to another captain in charge of an unit specializing in close quarter combat and hostage rescue, being a former member, price was quite close with the man.
"how come you never wear your ring ?" captain harris asked him, turning his body to his side.
"ma ring ?" john asked, taking a hit of his cigar, he could see the man observing closely his fingers.
price let out a chuckle at the captain's question. price wasn't married, hell, he wasn't even seeing anyone. he was far from a saint, hooking up with people from time to time, but it's been a long time since he had a serious relationship simply because of the importance his work took in his life. he never had time for his partners, and when he had it, he would spend it worrying about his soldiers.
"bloody hell mate" he said, smoke coming out of his nostrils. "you takin' the piss ?"
captain harris looked at him warily, squinting his eyes.
after that, more of those interactions took place between john and some of his colleagues. he didn't really pay attention to it as he was truly busy.
this bloody coffee machine. john mentally cursed it. he was already upset by the amount of work he had, the pile of dossiers not getting any smaller, and the only machine next to his office was out of order. in the state john was, he still decided to go in the common area to make himself a coffee, even if it was further away.
when he walked through the door, his eyes landed on a familiar figure, the secretary that came into his office earlier, catherine (he finally remembered her name). when she suddenly turned to him, a friendly smile naturally appeared on his face.
"oh, afternoon captain ! funny, i just saw your wife pass by" she said while gesturing to the small shared kitchen.
"wot the hell are you talkin' about" john's smile faded instantly, replaced by a confused expression.
without thinking he walked towards the kitchen area, leaving catherine utterly confused.
as he entered the room, his eyes fell on you, your back was turned to him, he could only observe you from behind from head to toe. a high range suit and stiletto heels, you were humming a tune, oblivious to the man behind you.
when you turned around, you almost spilled your hot coffee, startled by his presence.
"who in the world are ya ?" price immediately regretted saying that, he talked before thinking. gulping when he saw your brows furrow and the outraged look on your pretty face.
"excuse me ?" you said, gripping your mug with your second hand to prevent it from falling. "who are you ?" price mentally cringed at the way you emphasized the word.
he stayed silent while observing you, you were really charming, maybe the same age as him. despite the unpleasant expression on your face, price could only admire your features. with the way you were carrying yourself, along with the badge around your neck, he could tell you were someone of higher rank.
"hello ?" you called again, watching him with a confused, almost scared expression. you still didn't move.
"and you are ?" you answered almost immediately.
he sized you up again, "captain price".
john felt like a teenager again under your gaze, he was almost uncomfortable, which was a rare occurrence. he quickly looked behind him, catherine was gone. fuck, no one to save him from the mess he put himself into. "they think we're marri-"
"i know" you cut him off, an amusing smile on your face. "i don't even have a ring." you confessed while looking down at his hands, you mentally noted that he didn't either. when you looked into price's eyes again, he had a faint smile on his face.
a short silence, you both looked into each other eyes.
"sorry for scaring ya." he scratched the back of his neck, looking at the floor.
you talked a bit more, even though price was dying under all the paperwork, he decided that a 10 minutes break wouldn't hurt. also, he didn't know how to use the new machine of the common area, and you kindly offered to help. after your small talk, basically laughing at your colleague's misunderstanding (not even knowing where it came from), he saw you look at your watch and straighten up.
"alright, i really need to go now." price felt a hint of disappointment, "thanks for the small talk..." you stilled, looking at him as if you were waiting for something.
"john." you repeated, a smug smirk on your face. you weren't slick at all.
the captain couldn't help but let his eyes wander on your silhouette as you were walking away. you were truly a gorgeous woman.
refusing to aknowledge the fact that his pants got a little tighter, ashamed by himself and how aroused he was feeling ; he leaned against the counter, looking down at his feet. "fuckin' hell john" he mumbled.
but he just couldn't help it, you were so attractive, and thinking about you as his supposed wife was making him feel things. locking his door as soon as he got back in his office, price unzipped hurriedly his pant as he sat on his chair. no, he definitely didn't touch himself, sure thing is, he didn't last long imagining what he could do to you if you were his missus price.
nana's note -> ugh i love down bad price, was thinking about making a riley, garrick and/or mactavish version probably
