But if a woman acted incompetent once then she will be literally crucified in the street and she's evil for manipulating her husband into settling for less and suddenly it's not a silly endearing sitcom trope 🤔
the kriselle dynamic was initially uninteresting to me because it seemed largely centered on noelle being this passive, eternally-suffering-yet-pure-hearted ingenue object-thing, and maybe that's kind of the point of interest for a lot of people: the tragedy and angst inherent in forcing a lesbian and a nb person into an uncannily heterosexual relationship dynamic against their will. semi-estranged childhood friends with a world of things left unsaid between them who are put into a position of mutually desired intimacy and vulnerability, and then have that desire made real in a twisted way neither actually want. but the way its rendered is the kind of agencylessness you'd find in a harlequin romance novel, it doesn't do anything particularly novel enough with their characters for me. this isn't like a value judgement or anything, it's just my personal preferences.
chapter 5's weird route turns this all on its head in such a great way. suddenly noelle is reactive to the abuse she has sustained. she contemplates, identifies with, and internalizes it. the way the power aspect of the dynamic allows her to consolidate a new identity in the face of the pain she has sustained her whole life supersedes everything else. her basically asking kris "why can't i do to you what you do to me?" when you attempt to abort the weird route in ch5 and forcing the player to do what she wants are both sooooo good. i need to see beastmode noelle nowwww
