Ghost | 20+ | they/she | ♠️ | local cryptid | i don't actually know anything | ao3

hey, i'm Ghost! welcome to my blog! ✨

i'm paperxcrowns on ao3

i'm 23, aroace and agender, my pronouns are they/she, and i am a pastry chef

i usually reblog stuff here, but if you want to see me scream into the void, check out #ghost post and check out #my writing for fic updates and the occasional meme.

my askbox is always open if you want to chat!

my hyperfixations come and go, but i always return to the batfam <3 (so don't worry about not seeing any dc fics atm, i have several wips in the works, including a small bingo i'm participating in!)

my writing blog: @paperxcrowns

my TMNT sideblog: @asummersday

my Ko-Fi

when i was 13 i made up a group of ocs who were gifted the ability to teleport but with caveats that made it really irritating for them and everyone else. i can’t remember all of them but two. one of them could only pass from place to place through water. they could jump into something as small as a cup of tea and come out the other side through a puddle or something but notably they did get wet. so any time they teleported anywhere they arrived soaking wet. they had to go everywhere with a waterproof paddling bag as a purse. the other could only teleport between occupied bathrooms. any bathroom in the world was fine but it had to be in use. they could just ask a friend to go in first and cheat it that way but in an emergency they’d just have to barge in on someone with their eyes closed and yell “SORRY! SORRY!” and disappear immediately from existence.

its probably a normal sign for the economy that all of my adulthood fantasies are like "imagine having your own kitchen living room and bathroom to decorate" "what if i could get on a train" "maybe one day i could purchase a sturdy pair of shoes" "i should save and invest in a single bicycle"

how much banger fanwork has been killed in its infancy due to the 40-hour workweek. Do you know how many absolutely rockin comics live only in my head because I don't have time or arm ability left to draw them. As well as weird original comics

even if employed we all have to get more unemployed spiritually

Fandom spaces have GOT to stop finding out about concept art & saying they were supposed to have x or y. That’s not how concept art works, there isn’t a secret better show they decided to hide from you for no reason

“Look at the animation style we could have had!” and it’s a drawing so detailed that the animators would have killed themselves before ever being able to finish a single frame

Does anybody have that image of what cyberpunk dialogue is like. "to crack a cyber lemon this nasty" or whatever

That's the bitch

If you want an idea what more authentic oldschool hacking language sounds like, there is an absolutely ANCIENT webpage called the Jargon File (seems to have been updated from the early 80s up through 2004), aka the New Hacker’s Dictionary, that kept a record. It’s not far from Gibson’s idea but if anything it sounds even dorkier, peppered with coding terms and prehistoric memes

official linguistics post

You guys realize you’re interacting with other human beings on here, right?

I just think that maybe some of you should be like, normal

and by that I mean that like. you need to realize there are boundaries with interactions with strangers

“The internet isn’t real life.” The internet is just as real as any other method of communication, as are the people behind these accounts.

This isn’t a Sims game, what you do here has consequences beyond the internet. Be kind.

sci fi is all about getting so scared and ripping tubes out of yourself. people miss this

sci fi is all about desperately trying to reclaim your violated bodily autonomy. it’s all about asserting that you are a being with agency, and you can choose what happens to your own person, even if that’s ripping tubes out of yourself. and also sometimes an alien is there

every now and then the neighbour's kid, who knows he'll get in trouble if he climbs in his dad's car and just leans on the horn, decides it's worth the consequences and treats himself. and that's real

let this be the year that you stop using your school (or employer) email address for your AO3 account

  • when you leave school or leave a job, you lose that email address. This means not only that you’ll lose any emails you have saved on that address but that you might lose your ability to access AO3. When you try to reset your password or recover your account, messages are sent to the email address on file.
  • your school or employer might block emails based on words contained in those emails. that means you might miss subscription notifications, comment notifications, or emails from the Policy & Abuse team trying to contact you. These messages won’t go to spam. They’ll just be outright blocked. You will never see them.
  • your school/work systems administrator has the ability to access and read your emails (not that they necessarily would, but they have that power)
  • if you’re still in high school, it’s possible that the school’s Acceptable Use Policy (similar to a Terms of Service) would allow your parents or legal guardian to access your emails, upon request
  • school and work email addresses often use some form of your real, legal name which you may or may not want connected to your fannish identity.

As you can see, creating a free email account with a different provider is probably a good idea for a lot of reasons unrelated to AO3, too. It might seem annoying, but it’s worth it.

If you need instructions for how to change your account’s email address, here you go!
