A little corner for my writing: work, snippits, and ideas. || Ao3 is PaperPuffin || Currently writting: OG novel, FFXV, Marvel, dp x dc || They/She

I may have only got a few sentences written today during my break, but I am rather fond of them:

The vestiges of death cling heavily to Danny as he nears the surface of the Pit. It would be too easy to let them pull him back down, to trap him back in the green. Damian. He has to go back for Damian. Either he will continue to stay with the boy, or he will take Damian with him, but he will not abandon the child. Danny push up, not shedding the tendrils of death as much as forcing them to his will. He emerges skull first from the Pit. The rest of him follows slowly. He must look a horror. There is no way he doesn’t, but Damian flings himself forward without hesitation. His small arms wrap around Danny’s neck so tightly that Danny would be struggling for breath (if he needed it).

Speed Running Family, ch12.p2

masterpost, please no editing <3 I over did things thursday and am now ded. this part is short, but it's been ages it feels like so wanted to get y'all something

It takes a lot of convincing for the Justice League to agree to open the portal at the base. Danny’s not part of that conversation, not really. He’s there, but he stays wrapped up in Snowfall’s soft embrace and doesn’t really say much. Bart keeps his hand the whole time, even though Danny knows that being part through a ghost like that feels really weird.

Danny holds tight back.

!!WARNING: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF POST-TORTURE SCENE AND BODY

inspired by this writing prompt and @roanawayspoons bad influence

“You know, that’s genuinely impressive. Gruesome as hell, but impressive.”

Roy didn’t even look over as he sighed, focused on searching through the laptop bag. “Stop ogling the dead body, it’s getting creepy.”

“I wasn’t ogling the corpse,” Jason said. He waved a hand towards the mutilated body. “I was ogling the execution of the torture. There was some real thought put into it. This isn’t like a regular mobster hit, there was no pulling teeth or anything. Every act here had a purpose.”

A nasty purpose.

@roanawayspoons Danny/Gar/Raven, Magenta, "I knew you were trouble when you walked in"
This keeps growing on me, so have the first(??) part.

The Titans had gotten themselves a bit of a reputation through the years. Cyborg likes to blame it on how they were all teen heroes when they started; all full of hubris and hormones. And the thing is, he’s not wrong.

But he’s also not right.

Nightwing was, and always would be in all the ways that really mattered, their leader. The Titans stood because of him. And he may have been Robin, but he was never a meek little bird, at least not since ‘Robin’ came after ‘Batman’. Nightwing was a terror, because he had to be. He had people that he loved and he would not let them fall, not again. Each Titan strived to meet the bar he set.

Which meant all of them were vicious.

They were a snake strike wrapped in a smile.

So, see - I wasn't left quite entirely sure that Danny had heard of Red Hood before the gym meeting, which would obviously complicate that matter. Busy college student, new to the city, no neighbours but Jason who hasn't mentioned it, after all.

And in Block Party, Nickie mentions him scarring a John off one of the gals in what "must've been his first week".

I figured it would be possible for making clear that yeah, Danny Has heard of Red Hood before the gym meeting and the part Nickie is bringing up could be the same scene. Or, I suppose, the latter could be left out, but... well, I kinda want to see that, ya know?

Avatar

Oh, Danny absolutely knows about Red Hood before he shows up to the gym. He's not expecting to see Red Hood there, but 100% knows of Red Hood.

I don't see that scene being part of the story, since the start is what's already written, but Nickie might recount it for Valerie's sake during their manicure night?

Recent sickly Danny comments got me thinking of sickly Phantom. Maybe post experimentation? Or Gotham ecto being dirty? IDK the details. But Danny; who was always weak and scrawny in human form; who got used to having Phantom as the faster, stronger, braver, better version of himself; struggling with not having that any more. Trying to push his ghost form to be the super-powered powerhouse it used to be, but he can't and he doesn't even understand why.

Thought these thoughts might interest you.

Oh, yeeeeeeeeees. This is very tasty. Hum hum... lots of ways to play this. An obvious would be loss of the power bank that Amity is thank ls to how it is a haunting hot spot. He leave it, he leaves his power supply. Suddenly being Phantom is like being asemetic and in a constant flair up. He has ro hid that now. He has to protect Phantom.

But that has easy ways to be fixed and I do love a chronic condition (for fictional characters, far less fond of it for myself).

Bad!Fentons trying to save their son. Trying to cut away the diseased parts. Trying to cut away Phantom. And they do. Now Danny is running from his parents with the Crack core that was his his his--that is Phantom.

I think they would both be mesed up in that case though as they try to heal. But how can they? Danny is too human now to fix the hole inside him. Phantom is too human to heal like a ghost. He's still prone to being solid there real...but maybe... there's something under this city they came to. There's something under Gotham. Something that glows like hope and death all at once.

And then of course it could just be the ghost side that was ruined. Beaten and torn apart and angry claws ripped in and pulled--Pariah, the Observents, Clockwork. Phantom saying no to Clockwork and it's not... that's not... not the childnor baby or old man or mentor--was he ever a mentor or just using him like--

Phantom escapes, stumbles through a door and out a linen closet and down some stairs. He's in shreds. Parts ripped away. Gone. Choking on his own soul he turns back into Danny, because at least flesh and blood can be fixed.

It's a little more shocking for the Wayne's to find a bleeding child at the base of the foyer stairs. No alarms broken, but there is a child there and bleeding. They start considering dimension travel at the top of the 'how' list. Followed shortly by time travel.wrote

Bruce presses the back of his hand to his lip, feeling the cut sting in response. He should get some ice. Make sure the swelling isn’t so bad tomorrow that a teacher will feel required to ask. But he doesn’t want to get up. It’s cool there in the shade of the bell tower, even as the cicadas scream in the warm weather. There’s a peace to it.

A peace that is ruined by someone dropping to the ground next to him. Danny Masters. He’s a grade above than Bruce, but by age he should be two. Bruce has never spoken to the other boy before, but memorizing the student body at a place like this was easy. Danny stretches his long legs out in the grass before he holds out a plastic glove full of ice.

Bruce eyes it warily.

Danny shrugs. “Couldn’t find a plastic bag.”

Bruce doesn’t say anything.

“Look, I get it.”

Bruce scoffs. As if someone—

“I killed my parents too.”

—oh.

“Not just them. My sister. My best friends. They’re all dead because of me.”

Bruce stays quiet, but he takes glove full of ice and presses it hard against his lip. He ignores the way Danny is looking at him. Danny just hums. The sound mixes with the cicada calls.

“Bruce Wayne.”

“I know. Danny Fe… Masters.”

“I know,” Bruce replies.

Okay so I didn't follow this prompt exactly, but the "I killed my parents" "Me too" scene was stuck in my head and also Clocky's SicklyDanny from Danny in Metropolis kinda lives rent free in my head, sooooo

oops I had brain worms and my hand slipped: First and Final Kiss

The bois!!

Oh they both need so many hugs. This is delightful. (I need to give it another read when head words better.)

@mikosflame Danny/Bruce, Key, “Take your aim, fire away... shoot me down, but I won't fall, I am titanium”

BANG!

A red flag emboldened with the word pops out the end of the gun.

The whole room seems to sag with an exhale of relief. But Bruce doesn’t. He still strains against the goons who are holding him back.

The Joker just shrugs, gun dangling limp from his fingers. “Ah, well, looks like all I have with me is a joke!” His face twisted into an awful sneer. “Problem is, doesn’t seem anyone is laughing!” He turns, a dramatic pivot that leaves his back to Danny.

Please, please, please, let him be done with Danny, Bruce silently pleads.

There’s a moment where he thinks it works.

Then the Joker snaps his fingers. The goons on either side of him raise their pistols. Danny jerks as a bullet hits his chest. The second bullet jerks him the other way. He curls in on himself, body bowed for a moment. But then he sweeps his hair back as he stands up straight. There’s a devil-may-care smirk on his lips. It’s the smile that Bruce fell for.

The Joker twists back with a growl. “Unload, boys!”

Bang-bang-bang—ten more shots ring out.

Danny jerks back with each of the shots, but there’s no blood. No wet red staining the new suit that he had let Bruce buy him. The pistols empty into Danny, but he doesn’t bleed.

The room holds its breath.

Danny shakes out his sleeves. Twelve bullet shells clink against the marble floor. He straightens his tie purposefully, and then in a flash has surged forward and socked the Joker.

He crumples to the floor in a pile of purple and green.

The goons pause and then run for it.

Danny is at Bruce’s side, holding his face as he searches for any damage. “Are you okay?”

“I think that’s my line,” Bruce says, his voice a desperate rasp. He presses his finger through a bullet hole in Danny’s suit. His finger meets flesh, whole and unblemished. “…how?”

Danny shrugs and smiles, a nervous thing that Bruce wants to sooth away with a kiss, so he does.

@that-other-pineapple Danny/Dick, Key, "And then I said goodbye or she'll break my heart'

“Dick, no,” Wally hissed.

“Dick, yes.”

All of them turned to look at Raven in surprise. She just shrugged and gestured towards the new hero, Phantom. He was talking with Specter. She said something that made him throw his head back in laughter. It showed off his sharp teeth spectacularly.

“Someone needs to… what was the phrase for it?” Raven asked, head tilted. “Ah, ‘hit that’.”

“Raven,” Wally gasped, aghast.

She gestured again at Phantom. His his drifted away like smoke and his legs were less than solid. He felt like storm about to break.

“Yeah, no, I’m with Raven,” Gar said. His chin was perched on his hand as he watched Phantom with what was basically heart eyes. “Unless he’s into sharing?”

“Oh come on, you have to at least let me shoot my shot!” Dick whined. “You two already have your whole eldritch thing. Leave some for the rest of us.”

“Dick, no,” Wally said, again. “I’m just trying to keep you in one piece.”

Dick pressed his hands together with a little gesture. “Counterpoint: he makes falling apart seem so good.”

Wally just sighed and dropped his head onto the table with a thunk.

This was a longer typeset and the author is on here too @clockwayswrites . Not my longest but definately a longer amount of time. This was one of the covers and additional pages I made back in the middle of last year before I screen recorded and timed what I was making. Looking at canva version history (not reliable or great if bouncing about on the computer with the tab open) and knowing myself I would guesstimate at about 1 hour being spent on the covers and around 1 hour & half on the additional pages (probably more if I am being honest). The typeset for this was also quite a long and hot - heatwave :(. The typeset took me about 5 hours to complete. In total, all together the diigital side of this bind took me about 7 hours & 30 minutes to complete.

!!!! Look at all the chibies!

@chronicallyinsane-fandombitch Phantom/Red Hood (Danny/Jason), Cyan, “Love me, hate me, but you will never know me.”

I've always said I'd warn you if something doesn't have a happy ending so, uh, cw: major character death, blood

“Come on, stay with me!” Jason bites the order out and pressed down harder on the wound that’s oozing green. It’s not warm, not like blood, but Jason knows that’s what it is all the same. If you hold enough people as they die, know how what blood feels like, and Jason has held himself as he died.

The green stains Phantom’s teeth as he grins. He doesn’t cough, maybe just because there’s no lungs for the blood to seep into. Phantom has never seemed breathless before; not after a fight or a screaming match or when Jason has pressed Phantom against an alleyway wall and kissed him senseless. (Not when Jason took Phantom to a safehouse that he burned the next day and fucked Phantom senseless.)

But now after being hit with those things that weren’t guns from the people in hazmat and white suits Phantom feel breathless.

“I said stay with me!”

“Sorry,” Phantom whispers. “Had more than my time living. I always knew Mom would be the one who does it, gets the shots in, you know? Hella a shot…”

His mother? What did… the smaller figure in the hazmat was Phantom’s mother? Jason—he shouldn’t be allowed to be surprised. His own mother sold him to Joker. Watched him be beat to death. Jason tightens his grip on Phantom. Blood oozes through his fingers. Phantom’s form starts to break apart.

It’s not like it’s when Phantom goes intangible purposefully. It’s… he’s breaking apart.

“Stay with me,” Jason chokes out.

Stay with me.

Let me know you, learn you, love you.

“I hate you! You fucking bastard just—”

“Sorry.”

“Please.”

The blood is thick against Jason’s fingers even after Phantom is gone.

Speed Running Family, ch12.p1

masterpost, I am... so migrained. pls no editing, I know there are issue

Danny is pacing like he’s a Speedster. Every so often his eyes dart to the tube that the other him is in. Bart winces even as he think of the person in the tank like that. It’s not fair, not to Danny or to this… this Phantom.

But Bart still keeps himself between Phantom and Danny.

That’s also not fair.

Maybe some words today...?

Okay okay. I think I finally have a proper draft of my letter of application written. (My first draft was absolutely a proposal for my dissertation, not a letter of interest.) I'm still waiting on my reference letters so maybe my mind can breathe now and let me write other stuff. Of course more weather rolling in May spite that.

Getting some words today. Slow words, but words. Have a tidbit:

‘Phantom’ the ghosts whisper, the word coming from everywhere and nowhere. One of the yeti rise. They seem smaller than most of the others, but hold themselves strongly. There’s only a faint tremor that gives away the strain of they have been through. “Phantom,” they say with a slight tip of their head. “I am glad to see that you remain. There was a time when I thought that they had tested you too far.” “That’s not… I’m not…” Danny takes in a deep breath and lets it out. “I’m not who you’ve been feeling. They broke it. They broke it and they took it.” Danny’s voice hisses like the ghosts’. Bart doesn’t let go of his hand.
@nagarajas Dany/Bruce, Magenta, “To Tooms at last to Tooms at last We climb the Upward Way. And young Rhody Mccordy goes to die on the Brridge at Tooms today”

!!CONTENT WARNING, GUN VIOLENCE, OPEN ENDED (but come on, it's Danny)

“The hostage is still with Two-Face,” the police radio hummed.

Hostage.

As if Harvey’s attention was on some anonymous stranger and not Bruce’s lover. Somewhere in Bruce’s shed tux the weight of a ring in the breast pocket sat heavy. Would Bruce even have the chance to ask the question he had been so afraid of?

“Oracle,” Bruce barked.

He was too sharp, too harsh, but he hoped they understood. They knew too.

It was Danny.

They cared.

“Danny is taking all the attention. SWAT almost has the all the other hostages out, the ones we know of. Some cars they can’t get close to check,” Oracle answered.

The bridge was mess of smashed and overturned cars. There was no way that there weren’t fatalities. They just hoped to avoid more. But with Harvey.

The coin glinted against the search lights as it flipped again. How many flips had spared Danny now? Each one a promise that Two-Face would stay focused on Danny and let another batch of people go.

Bruce was still too far to stop the flip.

One more. Danny just needed one more toss to go his way.

Harvey caught the coin, smiled, and then shot Danny in the head.

Woops read this and then immediately went into a writing frenzy. thank you clock. hope you like it!

He hadn't been in the relationship for very long. It had only been one no —THREE years now? No no, maybe more like four at this point. Damn that was a lot longer than he thought it had gone on.

The point was that no, he hadn't told Bruce about his other powers yet. He’d meant to! He really did! But whenever he was around the other man he just fell into the his eyes... and that smile...

Well. It turns out time really does fly when you're having fun and all that. This was definitely the longest relationship he’d had in a while. It also didn't help that he didn't have much practice in telling others his secret.

He'd dated Sam on and off for a bit in college, and then during his years studying for his astrophysics doctorate he’d reconnected with Val and dated her for a while, and she also had also already known his secret. What could he say? He liked a competent woman who could kick his ass.

It had turned out he liked a competent man who could kick his ass too.

Vlad had somehow gotten him to agree to go to some ball with him in Gotham. Said he should "meet the people he'd be working for one day" or some BS. He knew he wasn't going to be an astronaut at that point, so he was working towards the next best thing: becoming one of people who sent the astronauts up in the first place.

Don't get him wrong! Danny would still be applying to NASA, but it wouldn't hurt to have backup plans in the statistical liklye case of being rejected. And while private ventures were one of the few other ways to get someone into orbit, he still hated nearly everyone in that room. for most of the evning he'd sulked in a corner and complained about Vlad and some other more nefarious billionaires to (unbeknownst to him at the time) one Brucie Wayne.

A man whom had found all his knowledge of other billionaires unsavory practices fascinating, and his insults hilarious. And the rest was history.

It turned out that “Brucie” Wayne was just his public persona to keep the paparazzi from looking into his private life —a move Danny respected— and that the man didn’t laugh very often for real when just existing as himself.

But that just made the times when he had Bruce snorting and giggling like a five year old all the better. He was one of the few people that could get a genuine cackle out of the philanthropic billionaire, a fact which he prided himself on.

His real smile was just that much more beautiful then the fake one he'd give to everyone who asked for an autograph, and Danny had learned to read which ones were fake and which ones weren't.

Danny 🤣

This is hilarious and amazing <3

@keepsdrifting Danny & Flashpham, Magenta, “Mist and Shadow, to the edge of night”

There’s someone running with them.

Someone else in the Speed Force.

It’s Bart who notices them first. He’s always been more sensitive to the Speed Force than Wally or Barry. Barry knows he’s the worst about it, what with constantly fighting against the idea of the supernatural, and even he notices this other being that’s running through time along side of them.

It’s hard not to once the fighting starts.

They’re a blur of black and white set against the vibrancy of the Speedsters. Set against the sea of agent white. Against red and green blood. Whoever they are, whatever they are, they aren’t afraid to draw blood, or to bleed. It’s a messy fight.

And then it’s over.

Everything ends so suddenly that Barry finds himself not only skidding to a stop but helping to stop the person that’s been running with them. They’re small; the size of Bart but frail in a way that Bart isn’t. And they’re thrashing in Barry’s arms.

“It’s okay,” Barry soothes. His words are soft, just between him and this kid—because it’s just a kid. A kid who’s splattered in red and green blood. “It’s okay. They’re down. They’re down and we’re going to hunt down all the others.”

The kid screams, though it’s an almost soundless noise, and then collapses like their strings are cut. Barry fumbles for a moment before he’s got the kid supported all the way. They’re sobbing now, their shoulders hiccuping with each one. It’s soundless too. Barry brushes fingers through the kid’s hair, even as he looks up in panic. In worry.

Bart fidgets. “Is… are they okay?”

“I don’t know,” Barry says honestly, “but we’ll help. We’ll help.”
