1980's inspired Teen Titans

Here's some fun Teen Titans redesigns I did for the heck of it. I'm still working on Blackfire, and I am hoping to get around to some of the others. I know the roster of characters I have right now doesn't make any particular type of sense. But I just started drawing the characters that I like to draw and let it grow from there :)

I’m new to calling my representatives about things (shout out to 5 calls) and I was wondering if I could get your take on something. Is it possible to call reps TOO much? I know you should only call once for a given issue, but everything is happening so much I could probably call about three different issues every day of the week and never run out of things to talk about. hello and good morning

I think part of it is for your own mental health, that it's better to focus on a few key issues, but clearly there's A LOT going on. Upside everyone has 3 members of Congress (two Senators and a Representative) so you can make a rotation of calling their different offices if you want to mix it up

However, it is the most magical time of the year, election time! So you and really everyone should check out https://www.mobilize.us for opportunities to volunteer with candidates from statewide Senate and Governor candidates down to local state house candidates and many many campaigns are doing virtual from anywhere phone banking

if people are shy about canvassing or phone banking, maybe live somewhere where they're far from any competitive races, there are LOTS of groups sending post cards to voters and nows the time to get signed up for that

every once and awhile someone will like or reblog one of my Biden week posts and it'll be like "oh yeah thats what it was like to have a real government" and then I sit and look into space for awhile thinking how every cool thing set in motion in those posts totally got canceled

particularly re-reading the one that set this off there was a big food aid push helping to feed 1.2 million kids and a different one to help 200,000 farmers in developing countries and like I remember at the time going "will people really care about foreign aid?" and now Trump and Musk most likely starved all those kids to death.... *sigh*

you know despite ALL of my friends being intense table top game people in high school (and those friends still are) I never could get into it, just gay me making jokes about Warhammer while the straight nerd boys played

you know its telling how few people on the internet actually spend time outdoors in general and around actual gay men in particular

because to hear even Tumblr the "gay gender website" talk people only wear harnesses while strapped into a sex swing while being fisted

but the reality is that the harness, both leather and spandex, in gay male world is like stiletto pumps, a bright red lip stick, a short skirt or push up bra.

sure some people are wearing those things because they're about to get laid or hoping to. But lots of people wear them just to feel sexy, confident or powerful. And there's nothing X rated and "shouldn't be seen in public" about any of that.

lots of gay guys wear harnesses to bars or clubs not because its a sex thing, but because its a sexy thing, they feel attractive and confident.

I get that gay men feeling attractive and confident terrifies people, but if you're at Pride and a guy walks past you in jeans and a harness, either shirtless or over his shirt, he didn't violate your civil rights or do a sex thing in front of you, he's wearing a totally appropriate outside that makes him feel confident and powerful.

you don't have to wait, you can wear a harness over a binder or better yet over trans tape, but most importantly you don't need anyone's permission or acceptance, you are 100% allow

so I'd say, I'm sure there are messages with-in particular leather subcultures

however harnesses are SO! common in gay world that no one will assume anything if you buy and wear the common designs, literally you can't go to a gay event/bar/party/whatever without seeing at least one person wearing

but really I don't think anyone will jump to anything if you wear something more unique than these very common designs

I think it's important to just do things that make you happy and not worry about imaginary people who might or might not inside their own mind be thinking stuff.

I happened upon these harnesses in a music shop. They're for carrying saxophones and other brass instruments that get heavy if you're gonna hold them and play them all night at an event. And goodness they look familiar.

Could it be that the harness snuck into the leather scene from the gay music scene? I imagine vintage versions of the harness would have been made by the same leather wear manufacturers who made biker gear, so it could have appeared to the same people. And there have been plenty of gay musicians who might have popularized wearing their harness off stage - or, come to think, worn their harness at a club event where they were playing.

I can't find any references to any specific musician that might have popularized it, and I also can't find vintage examples of saxophone harnesses and how they looked - for all I know, it's too modern an invention to have been influential in the 1970s. So lacking evidence, it remains a theory/guess. But it would fit, no?

  2. well its certainly a theory, I mean there's long running "jokes" that aren't totally jokes about gays and marching band in high school. I mean I know everyone associates drama club with high school gay boys, but marching band is another very common gay teenage experience so who knows. You'd have to look up when that style of harness came into being but for all we know some 20something was looking for something to wear to the leather bar and dug one of these out of the back of his closet and the rest is history. I mean after all another famous piece of gay wear, the jockstrap was once a universal piece of high school gym equipment
