Today's wasp of the day is Odontophotopsis exogyra!

Your first clue that this is a nocturnal wasp should be those eyes. And I'm not just talking about the shiny black beads on either side of its head, check out those forehead globes too! Ocelli are "simple eyes" in that they really just detect light/shadows and are believed to help with spacial orientation. For the ocelli to be so prominent and globelike tells you right away that this wasp is highly attuned to navigating the world through very subtle light.

Some nocturnal insects are capable of detecting the dim light emitted from stars and will use that to help with navigation

Frankly, I think they should have won, if this was a competition.

They FORM the towers! They FORM the pentagon! They FORM the planes and FLY the planes into the structures!

There's not a lot of stories you can use cheerleading to tell. "Towers falling over" is the perfect narrative.

dude i don't normally like to dig at peoples fun i generally think people having fun is good but it is slightly disheartening when there's a really really good story about a strong platonic relationship and then the only thing the fans can do is ship the characters or worse make a crack ship with an unrelated character from another media because it's like they can't STAND a lack of romance in media like they absolutely must try to insert romance where it is absolutely not needed or relevant and honestly sours the story/media a lot more for me or they'll Die because they can't just be happy with a really good platonic relationship. it makes me very sad as a demiromantic girlie.
