An update, or "My cycle is frustrating me"

I posted my intro not long ago, but for those not wishing to look back, I'm Sarah. :)

I went off the pill in January, but we weren't actively TTC. For a couple of cycles, I had nice, round, 28 day cycles with nothing unusual, then I had two with some substantial mid-cycle bleeding from day 14. Based on my mum's history, I figured this was fibroids (ack! Another potential roadblock!), but an ultrasound showed nothing much out of the ordinary (there is a small ovarian cyst, but the GP and radiologist didn't think much of it). However, I can't get in to see a gynaecologist until October. Even more frustrating, since seeing the doctor, the bleeding is much, much less (is my uterus running scared???) but still happening at day 13-14.

So... Not pregnant, something is weird but I don't know what, and nothing I can do about it until October. It could be ovulation bleeding related to the cyst or unrelated, or it could be something else.

I'm thinking I need to start tracking my cycle more closely. Has anyone used just a regular digital thermometer, or is the extra-special kind necessary?

BFP

Just got my BFP call from the doc.  This was our first round of IVF after three failed IUI's and over a year of trying naturally before that.  Thanks everyone for your support this entire time.  *hugs*

Introduction

1. First name? Sarah

2. Age? Location? Marital Status? 40, Australia, engaged

3. How did you find this community? I'm a member of pregnant, but haven't posted in a while.

4. How long have you been trying for a baby and what challenges do you have? (ie. medical issues, previous miscarriages, etc) I guess the main challenge is age, but we haven't had much trouble conceiving before. My second child was born prematurely last September and died at 6 days old. We used contraception for a few months to let my body recover, but I've been off BC for about 4-5 months.

5. What have you done so far to prepare for getting pregnant? Nothing I wasn't doing already. I'm 3-6kg overweight by the BMI, so I've been working on a balanced, nutritious diet, counting calories and increasing exercise to lose a little weight and generally be in good shape for pregnancy. I have my caffeine down to 1-2 cups of coffee a day.

6. Tell us one or two random things about you and/or your husband? We're not very random at all. :) We met at university some 20+ years ago, were friends for nearly 17 years, during which time he was married and then divorced. Some time after the divorce, he and another old friend came to a conference in the town I had moved to and... one thing led to another. Sometimes it really has to be the right time.

7. How are you feeling about the prospect of getting pregnant? Anxious. I realise miscarriage is not a lj-cut-worthy item in this community, but I'm not sure how infant death is? As I've had a prem baby, I will have a lot of additional monitoring this pregnancy, and of course since I felt fine all along, I'm afraid I won't be able to just enjoy the pregnancy. I wish I could fast forward and have a new baby and not all the fear. I'm worried about my age and all the things that could go wrong. Generally, very anxious. And concerned that I just won't have the opportunity, despite not having other fertility issues.

8. What do you hope to get out of being a member of this community? I hope to have a place where I can express all these anxieties without judgement.

9. What are you looking forward to the most about being a new mom or having another baby? Meeting my new little person and watching him or her grow. Motherhood has been every bit as rewarding as I hoped, even if it is frustrating.

10. Anything else you'd like to tell us or anything you think we should know about you?

Hello everyone! Thought I give an update and rant at the same time.

So my PCP did some blood work a couple of weeks ago and now I'm a full blown type 2 diabetic, unspecified. She has me taking metformin @ 500mg ER and blood pressure pills. I'm trying not to let the diagnostic get to me but it just seems like something else that has popped up to make ttcing more difficult. In addition to that I just finish my first clomid cycle and it was a bust. I wasn't expecting to get pregnant right on the first time but I didn't even ovulate! Plus the provera caused my induced period to last 13 days.

Tuesday I go to see my PCP to receive the results of my latest bloodwork for my thyroid. She'll probably chew me out as well because I didn't get an abdominal ultrasound on my liver like she wanted. My insurance didn't cover it so the place she referred me to wanted $400 to do the test, had to cancel it because my fund are tight due to tapping into my emergency funds. Unless my PCP can find a place that will let me make reasonable payment arrangements or is covered by my insurance it'll have to wait until my finances straighten themselves out, which won't be until mid September.

I go back to my OBGYN on the 27th. I'm hoping that she'll do some more testing to see why I didn't ovulate and way my progesterone was so low. It was 0.5 @ cd26 and all the opks I have taken show that I haven't ovulate at all.I'll have to update her about my Type II status and see if she'll still be able to help me or if she'll have to refer me to another doctor.

IVF in Ontario

The Provincial Government of Ontario in Canada has proposed to pay for women with "any kind of fertility" to have one round of IVF, albeit with only one embryo transfer. It would be a tiny improvement from the current situation in this Canadian province where currently the government healthcare system only pays for 3 rounds of IVF for women with both tubes blocked or damaged.

You can read about the proposal here:

Clomid Side Effects

Hello all,

I've been a part of this community for some time, though I mostly lurk instead of post.  As a recap we've been ttc for almost two years.  We already have one child which we got first try but for some reason that has our doctors stumped we just can't get pregnant again.

Anyway, we've given up natural pregnancy and I'm on my second cycle of clomid.

What I'm wondering is what different people's reaction to the clomid was.  It made me narcoleptic.  I was so tired I could barely operate a car.  I stopped exercising.  Stopped socializing.  I was a zombie for four days.   Outside of the narcolepsy it made me very calm and level-headed.  I'm embarrassed to say I'm normally very anxious and high-strung, prone to worrying and over-thinking.  I kind of liked me on the clomid though.

I suppose on the list of heinous side effects I could be having that's a blessing, but I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this?  What did clomid do to you?

4. How long have you been trying for a baby and what challenges do you have? (ie. medical issues, previous miscarriages, etc) My fiancée and I have been trying on and off for four years but took a break when we bought our house two years ago. So altogether six years. I have a thyroid problem (hypo), board line diabetic, secondary amenorrhea, and being overweight 30 pounds. After six months of no periods went to OBGYN and told her I wanted to conceive and that I haven't been cycling. She prescribed me Provera and Clomid today.

5. What have you done so far to prepare for getting pregnant? I'm been taking medication for my thyroid, taking folic acid and prenatal. I plan on buying Vitamin C, preseed, and OPKs when I pick up my prescription for provera.

Newbie

Hi,

My husband and I are both 35 years old, newly married and about to start the journey of TTC baby #1.

I am awaiting my period (hopefully this weekend) so we can get this first cycle started.

I am unaware of any health problems to either of us that could be a hurdle (apart from age and time).

I do have health anxiety which I hope doesn't become too bad.

Anyway, hi and good luck to all!

Trying to Conceive

Hello,
I am 27 and have been trying to conceive with my husband for over 2 years now.  We have been working with the Reproductive Science Center for about 5 months.  I never had regular periods.  I then went on birth control for about 2 or 3 years, then when I got off of it, I never got another period.  After 8 months I decided to call the doctor.  I just finished going through a cycle where I took Provera to trigger a period, Clomid with something else for the ovulation, and the Ovadryl shot to do at home, then I did the IUI.  We have to wait 2 weeks to find out if it worked.  I do not feel pregnant at all but it is a bit early. I find out on New Years eve!  These 2 weeks have been driving me nuts! I would be soooo excited to find out I am pregnant and sooo sad if I find out I'm not.
