Terri Luanna Mountainborne Robinson da Silva, daughter of Spider and the late Jeanne Robinson, is now in The Undiscovered Country, occurring Friday, December 5th, 2014, at the age of 40 years, due to Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (which she described as "the most common form of breast cancer"). Waiting for their time to greet her again are her father Spider Robinson, her husband Heron da Silva, her daughter Marissa ("Miss M"), and a huge extended family of relatives and intimate friends, as well as many, many more distant friends around the world.

Proposed motion for the 2011 WSFS Business Meeting

After a great deal of discussion on several fan forums and fan blogs, with the help of kevin_standlee, I have drafted the following motion to put before the 2011 WSFS Business meeting:

Short Title: Best Fancast

The purpose of this motion is to remove audio-visual periodicals (such as pocasts) from the "Best Fanzine" Hugo category, and recognize them with their own Hugo award category. Full text and commentary are included in the linked Google Doc.

Feel free to comment here or send email to the address in the Google Doc

Worldcon! Worldcon!

Denvention will be my second Worldcon. I had a wonderful time at my first, LAConIV.

The best thing about it was meeting such an amazing variety of fans. One of the downsides of belonging to a long-established local club is that it feels like everyone has done everything a zillion times before, so when I say, "Hey! Wow! Look at that!" they say, "Ho hum I've been doing these since 19__ did I ever tell you about the time ..."

Whereas I still giggle over

- meeting a rocket scientist who's dressed as Carmen Miranda.

- Having a notable and notorious old pro grab me in the elevator and give me a large, conspicuous hug, kind of out of nowhere.

- talking to people who you would swear have read every thing by everybody.

I'm really excited about going and I hope to make a suitable contribution of my own personal weirdness to the occasion.

Somebody not me...

Observing from a distance the current Burning F**kmuppetry that is people attempting (make that NOT attempting) to get hotel rooms for this year's Comic-Con, my lack of a desire to attend this con is once again firmly reinforced.

Somebody explain to me, using very small words, how this current Mongolian ClusterF**k is -- at least partially -- NOT the fault of CCI.

Really.

Because you cannot convince me that CCI didn't see this coming. Not when they make a very emphatic point about NOT going to Vegas. Not buying that. Sorry. And I, for one, will not spend my coin to support them smoking the drapes.

The hard cold fact is that Comic-Con has exceeded the carrying capacity of the San Diego regional (not the metro, the REGIONAL) area. Period. Hard stop.

Something's gotta give, kiddiewinkies. And this current hotel cock-up might just be what finally gave out.

Can I get a weigh-in from any concom people? Should CCI be partially to blame for this?
