You do one little drabble and suddenly Vala won't get out of your head! Also, I was trying to explain to someone that I was frowning in most of my Egypt pictures because the guys with the camel kept getting too close for comfort.

I haven't been posting as much, but I've still been very successful with Mini NaNoWriMo so far. My goal was a fairly easy one this year, just 100 words per day. I've plugged my word counts in a spreadsheet (yes, I didn't have anything else to do) and with half the month behind me, I have a total of 6959 words with an average of 464 words written each day.

Honestly, I've always worried that I don't have the endurance to make it as a writer, so this has been a great experience so far. Now I know that next year, I can definitely aim for a higher goal. Even better is that I kept with it despite having some weird situations like overseas travel and dead laptops.

First off, happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] rhi_silverflame! I'm not sure if I got the right day, but then again, I'm not really keeping track of time very well with all the time zones.

Second, we spent all day in Egypt. Arrived in Alexandria first this morning, and then they loaded us onto buses for the trip to Cairo and the Giza Plateau. All told, it was something like 50 buses moving in a convoy across the desert, each one accompanied by tourist police armed with machine guns! They like their tourists and they want to make sure that it's safe for them. Then it was lunch, a trip to a controlled "safe" shopping environment, a museum and then the three-hour ride back to Alexandria and the ship.

The pyramids were awesome, and there was so much more to seeing them up close. I'm going to try to get some photos uploaded tomorrow, once I have a better connection. We also stopped at the Egyptian Museum to see the treasures of King Tut, including his funeral mask and coffins that they no longer send on traveling exhibitions. Unfortunately, there were no pictures allowed in the museum. All I can say is that when you see the picture of the funeral mask, just remember that it's bigger than it looks. The pictures never show you the back of the mask. The whole thing is so massive, and it's all made out of gold.

Which leads me to another quickie Stargate SG-1 drabble written for Mini NaNoWriMo:

[livejournal.com profile] ladybug218, you'll probably get a few more Daniel/Vala drabbles out of this before I'm done.

ETA: And I missed [livejournal.com profile] searoach's birthday too. Happy late birthday!

Here's something in response to the drabble request I got from [livejournal.com profile] ladybug218. Enjoy!

I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo again this year. Two years ago, I had a blast with it. Last year was a lot tougher.

This time around, I'm going to be traveling for the first half of the month, so it's going to be tougher to find down-time to write. So, to keep me motivated, I'm asking for drabble prompts. Give me a fandom, a character, a pairing or a situation and I'll try to deliver a drabble. My fandoms are listed in my profile or you can ask for something with any of my RP characters.

I am doing [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo again this year, though I haven't been as successful as last year. Here's something I managed to turn out for today's goal. I'd call this a drabble, except it's a big long that.

Fandom: ST:ENT
Words: 586

The trip to San Francisco had been better than Hoshi could have hoped. )

Day 30

Nov. 30th, 2006 01:31 pm
thena: (I made my daily goal)
Last day! Today's piece is a shot at original fiction coming in at 189 words.

The check-out lane at Target was not the best place to bring up the idea of starting a family. )

Day 29

Nov. 29th, 2006 12:33 pm
thena: (I made my daily goal)
Woo hoo! 553 words today. And only one more day to go!

Day 28

Nov. 28th, 2006 10:24 pm
thena: (Eskimo)
135 words today, although when I cut it down to 116 words it's a bit more cohesive.

Day 27

Nov. 27th, 2006 11:55 pm
thena: (SG-1 - Bright Eyes)
Wow! I managed to turn in 897 words today before realizing that it was way past my bedtime. I've been barely making those 100 words per day over the weekend and this just feels so much better.

Day 26

Nov. 26th, 2006 11:18 pm
thena: (Alone)
Good lord, am I done with this yet? The fiscal month of December started for us at work today and it just feels like I should be over with [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo, but the calendar says otherwise. Anyway, I cranked out 421 words today once I finally got off the couch after work.

Day 25

Nov. 25th, 2006 11:34 am
thena: (Mini NaNoWriMo)
Kept typing until I hit 100 words exactly. Not bad, considering I didn't think I had time for this today.

Day 24

Nov. 24th, 2006 10:39 pm
thena: (Mini NaNoWriMo)
Churned out another 141 words today despite having an absolutely crazy Black Friday. I'm starting to wonder if 100 words per day should be more of a regular habit.

Day 23

Nov. 23rd, 2006 09:47 pm
thena: (Channeling my inner bitch)
135 words today, mainly about how I hate dealing with my family at Thanksgiving.

You will not believe what a family friend suggested to me when I told her that I was dating but hadn't found that special guy yet.

Day 22

Nov. 22nd, 2006 11:33 pm
thena: (I didn't make my goal)
I am exhausted. There's no way I'll get 100 words today.

Day 21

Nov. 21st, 2006 11:04 pm
thena: (Let Sleeping Dogs Lie)
Just chugging along today. Stopped at 142 words because I'm just not in the writing mood this late.

Day 20

Nov. 20th, 2006 10:44 pm
thena: (I made my daily goal)
Wow, I'm finally in the home stretch. There's 9 more days after today and what makes me happy at this point is seeing that I've written at least 100 words each day.

Title: Appetite
Rating: PG
Pairing: Cameron Mitchell/Carolyn Lam UST
Word Count: 488
Warnings: None in particular. Obviously they're season 9 characters.

The first time they shared a meal together, it was what she ate and not what she said that he remembered most. )

Day 19

Nov. 19th, 2006 11:15 pm
thena: (I made my daily goal)
I've got 191 words down today. Not my most productive, but I was struggling a bit so nearly twice my minimum daily goal works.

Day 18

Nov. 18th, 2006 11:28 pm
thena: (SG-1 - Mitchell and Lam)
285 words today, including this SG-1 Lam/Mitchell drabble. Spoilers for season 9.

This wasn’t supposed to happen like this and it was all her fault. )

Day 17

Nov. 17th, 2006 10:46 pm
thena: (SG-1 - Mitchell and Lam)
689 words, written with pen and paper while I was waiting at the optometrist. I'm not totally finished, but I think I can share a drabble.

Title: Procreation
