That's right, I'm taking a CS seminar on top of not one but TWO art blocks. And Japanese. And it's not just any seminar, it's Ileana's famously harsh Robotics seminar. b-but robooooooots~~~ OnO"

On the bright side, Japanese III is only 3 days a week, and Ferrario, the notoriously insane art prof, isn't teaching Intro to Digital next semester at all. I don't really know anything about Knapp, though. I could probably take Stables's TTh section of Intro to Digital, but with buses to Sequential it would be difficult to get lunch. I'll probably need special instructor permission or something to take Sequential II, especially since I didn't know they were teaching Sequential I this semester, but I took drawing here and I have a portfolio, which I hope to build on over the summer.
I sort of wish the things I'm interested in weren't so time-consuming and difficult, but eh. If worst comes to worst I can use my One Free Drop. Also, since I'll be making some money this summer, and not spending it on laundry/concerts/etc until I get back to school, I might be able to forgive myself not having a job next semester, though I for sure want to work for Smith tech support in the spring.

Specfic fanart (floating head party)

Speculative Fiction is a great class, but I have a little trouble doing the writing for it because I am much more inclined to draw the disembodied heads of all the characters we read about, than I am to actually write something intelligent. So, here's most of the cast of "We":
D-503, I-330, O, and that lady from the ancient house. Everyone's faces are creepily lopsided because I try not to spend more than 45mins-1.5 hrs on them, because jeezus h.p. lovechrist do I not have anything better to do?

might draw R, U, and S later, or I might not. I should really use my time more productively.

songs to fall asleep to

Music post time!
When I was a kid, I could never fall asleep without music on, and I still like to listen to something relaxing before I go to bed. Here are some of my favorites:

Farewell and Goodnight- Smashing Pumpkins        I went through a serious Pumpkins phase in middle school. Pretty sure this is the mellowest song they ever made.

Somewhere (West Side Story Cover)- Vic Chesnutt & Liz Durrett    Normally I'm not much one for showtunes, but this version sounds like it was recorded from a cuddlepile ~w~

A Dream Within A Dream- Oren Lavie
Dude's got a very soothing voice, what can I say.

Avril 14th- Aphex Twin        I'm always trying to remember where I first heard this song.... I didn't get it on my iTunes until a few years ago, but it definitely reminds me of my childhood for some reason.

State of the week

To summarize my first weeks of classes:

- I'm taking specfic instead of art history, and it's the best decision ever :D :D :D There's a little more writing, but it's about stuff I'm actually interested in/may be capable of forming an opinion about, so I don't resent it so much.

- Mondays are going to be my busiest days- 4 classes. But without the ARH, I've only got classes till 2:40 instead of 4pm.

- Wednesdays may be my lightest days? Depending on how determined Judy is to get us to attend the Wednesday "lab"/office hours thing.

- We're learning php in Web design, not RoR, but that's just as useful. Also I have a doppelganger who goes to Hampshire, and I'm determined to take a picture with her. :P Also also I don't have to take the 1:05 bus (unless I want an extra 1/2 hr to put up fliers). The 1:30 gets me there just fine.

- The lead-up to Conbust and Nationals is nuts! Lots of fundraising going on. I'm not sure I'll be able to figure out an automated form for fencing fudge sale in time- if I'd remembered it a few weeks ago there wouldn't be such a problem. >_>" But we did get some conbust fundraising done! We went door-to-door like Jehova's Cthulhu's witnesses yesterday, made $30 for an ad from Local Burger, and several other businesses seemed interested in advertising with us! :D

-The Nolan Arts Lounge in the CC has been converted into the  BEST PLACE EVAR! xD there's astroturf, pictures of blue sky, croquet, and a fountain! It's like springtime! i kind of just want to sit in there for ever. ~_~

-I finally got to share my obsession for the ridiculousness that is Uninhabited Planet Survive! with SSFFS people. Mwahahhaha >:D It's gonna take a larger stack of blank DVD's to burn all 52 episodes, but that's worth a trip to the Hampshire mall, definitely.

In conclusion, the semester's going to be pretty busy, but also pretty awesome! It's good to be back! :D

Decision time

Looking at the first reading set for History of Islamic Art, I see pretty clearly that art history is a subject I'd watch a National Geographic special on, or look through a gallery of, but actually taking a full-blown course on it will make me homicidally bored. The prof is nice enough, kinda young, and I might stick around for the crash-course on Islam on Wednesday, but I don't think it's going to work out in the long run. So the question is, do I just flat drop it, or try to find something to replace it with?

Thanks to Japanese and ba gua I'd have 14 credits without it, and goodness knows Japanese is going to be mid-bogglingly hard enough this semester. It's not that there aren't other classes that interest me- I'd love to do intro to digital media or voice acting, for instance, but everything seems to conflict with Foundations, or my web design class at Hampshire, or with Japanese.

...except for spec fic, apparently. Which would be pretty exciting, but I'm not even on the waitlist, and it's pretty tough to get into, isn't it? And as much as I love sci fi, it's still a literature class, which means lots of reading and writing and stuff... and it's at 9am. I guess that wouldn't kill me.

In other news, I don't think I'm going to end up minoring in anything, unless I'm allowed to use the same classes in both my major and minor? That sounds like cheating. :P If I did that I'd be 3 art classes away from a Digital Art minor. I could probably pull that off next year, especially if I wasn't taking Japanese... I guess we'll see what my priorities are when pre-registration rolls around.

(no subject)

Hey I finally finished that freaking painting thing!
Collapse )
Now all there is to do this week is get flu shot, renew drivers license, get haircut, maybe drop by crafts store/radioshack to get supplies for potential projects.

...yep. can't wait to get back to Smith. This semester is gonna be awesome! :D :D :D

p.s. I love this comic so much! >w< Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name
