Hi, and welcome back to the Guardian drama Slo-Mo Rewatch. Watch half an episode a week, at your leisure, and then come and chat about it here in comments. Or you can just jump into the comments without rewatching, of course!
Here are the previous weeks' rewatch posts.Episode 18, up to 23:38Summary At the fight club, Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng watch a fight, waiting for their target to make an appearance. When he doesn't, Chu Shuzhi gets impatient, jumps into the ring himself and wins a bout to draw him out. It works, and a fight between the two of them is scheduled. Guo Changcheng reports this to Zhao Yunlan, who is furious and threatens to fire both of them. In the locker room, Chu Shuzhi is prepping for his fight with Ye Huo when his defeated opponent comes in and asks Chu Shuzhi to take revenge for his dead brother. At the SID, a restless Zhao Yunlan decides to go check on them. Shen Wei goes with.
Chu Shuzhi and Ye Huo do battle in the ring. Ye Huo reveals his fire power, and Chu Shuzhi knocks his mask off. The spectators fall silent. Chu Shuzhi gains the upper hand, and the crowd is angry and breaks into the ring. Ye Huo escapes. Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei arrive, and Zhao Yunlan shoots the ceiling to stop the riot. He counsels the brother against revenge and advises him to go back home, but the brother goes outside and confronts Ye Huo instead. We find out the rest of the dead guy's backstory along with Ye Huo, who gives his condolences. But the surviving brother won't let it lie, and during their subsequent fight, he pulls out a molotov cocktail. Ye Huo retaliates with his own fire, and Shen Wei intervenes as the Envoy, sending the surviving brother away.
Then Shen Wei openly shifts into his Haixing appearance and asks Ye Huo to accompany him back to Dixing. Ye Huo says he can't and makes his escape. Zhao Yunlan drives up in pursuit, and Shen Wei gets in the car.
Quote SW: To be honest, back then I sent [Chu Shuzhi] here to be my spy.
ZYL: You think I didn't notice that? But Lao Chu is unsociable and kind of grumpy, and you are not a base person. You surely will not do anything bad. So, I just turned a blind eye to him.
SW: Then, does it mean you will not blame me for this incident?
ZYL: This incident? It doesn't exist.
Detail Guo Changcheng finds the dark energy detector unresponsive at the fight club, which suggests there aren't any Dixingren in the crowd (at least in the parts where he's pointing it).
QuestionsDo you have a favourite scene or line of dialogue from this half episode? Do you think Zhao Yunlan is right to be furious at Chu Shuzhi? Do you sympathise with Bo Bi, the man seeking revenge against Ye Huo on his brother's behalf? Do you have any thoughts or feelings about Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng's dynamic in these scenes? (Does Chu Shuzhi know that Xiao Guo reported in to the chief?) How does the betting pool at the fight club make any money if Ye Huo always wins? Do you have any thoughts or feelings about the Weilan dynamic in this half episode?
Did you see any parallels in these scenes with other parts of the drama? If you're familiar with the novel, any thoughts about how the drama adaptation compares, if at all?
(As usual, these are all just conversation starters - feel free to answer all, some, or none, and to say as much or as little as you like! You don't have to be keeping up with the rewatch to join in. We'd love to hear your thoughts!)
