More information
The gift-receiving part is similar to a normal ao3 exchange except you aren't offering anything:- You nominate fandoms and relationships/characters in that fandom so they're in the tagset and you can request them.
- You add requests to the prompt collection so people can give you stuff based on those requests.
- Once the event is over, you might receive gifts, and you have to leave a nice comment on each of them.
That's it!
All gifts have to fit one of your requests: fandom selected, one of the media selected (art/fic/podfic), at least one of the relationship or character tags selected, at least one of the freeform tags selected, none of the Do Not Wants listed in the description. You can add a link to a Dear Creator Letter, additional info or prompts, whatever, but that's not mandatory for you to add or for the creators to follow.
Be aware that you might receive some weird works, since people might be creating stuff to hit weird tag combos then retroactively looking for someone to gift it to.
Step 1: nominate your fandoms and characters/relationships
You can only request gifts in fandoms and about characters or relationships that are in this tagset. If you can't find yours, you can nominate them! You can add up to 10 fandoms per account, and 10 characters or relationships per fandom.Warning, you need to use a specific format!
- It's easiest to use canonical ao3 fandom tags, though you can deviate if necessary.- For relationships, add the name of the canon in brackets. A slash (/) means a romantic and/or sexual relationship, an ampersand (&) means platonic.
- For solo characters, add 1: before the tag, and the name of the canon in brackets after.
- You can request 1: Worldbuilding for any fandom, with the name of the canon in brackets after.
Examples:
- My Canon - All Media Types
-- 1: Main Character (My Canon)
-- Main Character & Love Interest (My Canon)
-- Main Character/Best Friend/Nemesis (My Canon)
-- 1: Worldbuilding (My Canon)
Nominate crossovers under Crossover Fandom, as either "Character A (Canon A) & Character B (Canon B)" or "1: Character Name (Canon) in Other Canon".
There are also a few extra "fandom" tags that are specific to the game, to allow you to request more broadly:
- "Podfics of Any Works I've Posted To AO3", "Recursive Works of Any Works I've Posted To AO3".
- "Creator's Choice of Fandom": participants can gift you any fandom they want. There are two ways to narrow it. The first is through the character/relationship tags, for example to fill "1: Any Werewolf Character (CCoF)", the gift would have to be about a canonically werewolf character. The second is through variants, for example, "Creator's Choice of Stage Musical".
- "Any Fandom I Agreed To On Discord": a workaround to facilitate idea sharing in the discord and people going hey, anyone wants this?
Step 2: browse the freeform tags
Head over to this spreadsheet (or the very end of the ao3 tagset) to find a list of all the freeform tags eligible for this event. If using the checkboxes in the spreadsheet, it will auto-generate two lists for you to put in your ao3 requests: one for the additional tags field, which can only contain up to 20 tags, and one for the optional tags, which can contain as many as you want. Both fields mean the same, it's just a workaround to get infinite tags.Warning, the optional tags field will accept any canonical tag so it's important to only enter tags as they appear in the tagset because AO3 will not warn you if you've gone astray!
Step 3: create your requests
Head over to the prompt collection and click on "Sign up". You can then add a maximum of 25 requests, one fandom per request. You can edit your requests, add more, etc, but please don't remove them or remove stuff from them once gameplay has started (on the 17th). Someone might already have started working on a gift!
You can leave a maximum of 25 requests with the same account, and you can use several accounts if you want.
To fit a request, a work would have to match the fandom, one of the media, one of the relationship or character tags, one of the freeform tags, and not include any of the DNW in the text box.
You can browse other people's prompts on ao3 or through this website, which adds filtering options.
