First, a photo meme stolen from mithen:

Ask me to take a picture of any aspect of my life that you're interested in/curious about - it can be anything from my DVD collection to my favorite pair of shoes. Leave your choice(s) here as a comment, and I will reciprocate by taking the pictures and posting them as an entry. That way you get to know a little bit about my life.

Second, that '10 people who make your day' thing that's been floating around the flist. Just the first ten that came to mind, 'cause all you peeps on my flist are awesome and I love y'all to pieces. *hugs*

[livejournal.com profile] aspire_amita , for putting up with my crap for the past two years and for being the awesomest friend a girl could ask for.
[livejournal.com profile] mustangcandi  for her evil enabling ways, and how much fun it is fangirling Colby with her.
[livejournal.com profile] ladygray99 , for drawing me into the wonderful world of N3 fiction in general and Charlie/Colby in particular, and for being my beta/cheerleader/pokie stick wielder for the past year. You rock, hon.
[livejournal.com profile] mia_dcwut_09 , for her awesome videos and her tendency to give me really evil plot bunnies.
[livejournal.com profile] mithen , who is hands down one of the best writers of my aquaintance and a gem of a person besides. Get well soon, hon!
[livejournal.com profile] kalalanekent , who asides from being a kick-ass person, is (along with the always-awesome [livejournal.com profile] anissa7118 ) one of m favourite Superman het writers of all time.
[livejournal.com profile] nyctophobia76 , who was the first to cause a few chinks in my Charlie/Colby OTP, and I love her for it.
[livejournal.com profile] emmademarais , for her wonderful fic, lovely comments, and all-around awesomeness, as a person and as mod of numb3rs100
[livejournal.com profile] saavikam77 , utter sweetheart and one of my other favourite Superman het (and slash!) writers.
and [livejournal.com profile] paranoid_woman , who is just awesome all-around. Plus, how can you not love someone who manages to write naked!baking!Colby?

It's been a little over 24 hours since I woke up to find my city under attack. Ever since last morning, I've been shuttling through grief and rage and pain, but you know what? I don't want to do that anymore. I'm not a negative person by nature, and I don't want to give the terrorists the satisfaction of making me wallow any longer.

So, a slighter longer than normal list of what I'm thankful for:
  • I'm thankful that my loved ones and I are alive, safe and in reasonably good health.
  • I'm thankful that my Mom and I not only own our own home free and clear, but also have an income that is steady and enough to let us lead a comfortable life.
  • I'm thankful for the liberal environment I grew up in, for giving me the freedom to be an openly childfree atheist feminist bitch, for the fact that to this day the idea that I cannot do something because I'm female makes me go 'Bzuh?' because I honestly can't wrap my head around the concept. It's a privilege afforded to far too few women where I'm from.
  • I'm thankful for the few sane RL people in my life, most notably [livejournal.com profile] aspire_amita . Thank you for everything, sweetie. *hugs*
  • I'm thankful for fandom, and the wonderful, wonderful people I've met during the past two years. You guys mean the world to me, and I love y'all so much. *hugs*
  • I'm thankful that in 53 days, George W. Bush will be gone from the White House, and his hateful, twisted policies with him. I'm thankful that in less than two months, we will finally have a POTUS who does not see women and queer people as second-class citizens. It couldn't happen soon enough.

x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] wish_list

Step One

Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me.") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD.") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not stories or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use — or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free — do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf — to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not — it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My list:

1. Some paid time for my account. Because of circumstances IRL, I won't be able to get a paid account till next Juneish, and I miss the perks of one terribly. *is spoiled* Thanks to the generosity of the awesome [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and another wonderful person who didn't want to make themselves known, I now have MORE than enough paid time to last me until I can get my own. Thank you both so much! *hugs*

2. Fic. Superman/Batman, Charlie/Colby and Don/Colby (or Don/Charlie/Colby) would rock, but what I'm really jonesing for is some good Colby/Megan. Surely I can't be the only one out there that ships them?

3. A Charlie/Colby banner for my Picking Up The Pieces verse. Bonus points if it features the rest of the Numb3rs crew sans Amita.

4. My muses to get their asses in gear again. *bribes them with cookies*

5. Music! I can't recieve CDs owing to the aforementioned RL circumstances, but I'd love a mix or two. Anything but metal and rap is fine- the more diverse, the better. To give you a better idea of my tastes, I love country, pop, soft rock, and old school (Elvis FTW!)

6. An openly gay/bi/trans character on one of my favourite shows. *cough*Numb3rs*cough* Failing that, Amita to GO AWAY.

7. The Backstreet Boys to have a concert somewhere I can actually go see them.

8. A care package to a soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq, or a donation to any cause of your choosing. It doesn't have to be monetary- food, gently used clothing and toys, or your time will all help spread some holiday cheer to people who sorely need it.

9. Peace on Earth and goodwill to all!

  • If I've been AWOL-ish the past week, it's because RL has become a cracked-out, mean-tempered, rabid hound from Hell. Just this weekend, I have twenty pages of layout, three five-page articles, editing a news feature, French class, and a very important quiz. O.o *would curl up in a ball and cry, except that would waste time she doesn't have*
  • College? You are made of FAIL. Who the hell takes twenty working days for a simple academic transcript? Because of you, my grad school applications, which were previously set to go out the 13th of October, won't be ready until maybe the end of the month. *glares at you* DIAF, srsly.
  • One small spot of brightness, though: the last issue of All-Star Superman. I won't spoil it, except to say that it was gorgeous, and the last page had me tearing up.
I'm gonna be pretty much incommunicado until Tuesday, which is the day after all my assignments are due- sorry, all. ([livejournal.com profile] nyctophobia76 , if you want to have someone else beta that Don/Colby story, feel free to go ahead- I won't be able to get to it until after the weekend. Right now it's just sitting temptingly in my inbox, mocking me. *sighs*)
*glances at clock* Eep! *runs*

swingandswirl: text 'tammy' in white on a blue background. (Default)
*bounces about* Christmas is finally here at Casa Tam- my aunt came to visit today, and brought me goodies! We only had a couple of hours, so we just went to the local mall and wandered about, chatting. It was fun. *wishes her aunt didn't live on the other side of the planet*

Here's what I got, all nice and listy-like.

  • Oodles of dark chocolate. From Dove, Hersheys, AND Godiva. OM NOM NOM NOM.
  • Post-its with funny, wacky things on them, like "I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you." and "Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting!" My personal fave? This quote from Dubya: "I stand by all the misquotations I may or may not have made." ROFLMAO.
  • Rs. 2500 (about $50) for me to spend in my favourite bookstore. I bought:
  1. Superman: Birthright. I SO wanted Godfall, but no luck, so I bought this instead.
  2. Batman: The Complete History. Couldn't neglect my baby now, could I?
  3. The Creative Calligraphy Sourcebook. *drools at the pretty pictures*

I have about Rs. 600 left, enough for a decent book on feminist theory or some decent calligraphy material. Decisions, decisions! *sighs*

Eh, enough of that. I need to squee about Birthright! Man, if there was ever a book that tore me in two, this was it. I HATE HATE HATE the art. Clark and Lois, especially, make me want to go all stabbity on Yu's ass. *desperately wishes she could commission one of the awesome artists on her flist to redraw the entire book, just so she can actually read the whole thing through without wincing*

But the story! Eee! Mark Waid *gets* Superman, you know? Superpowered alien w00bie and all. (I think he had me at "Please don't let me look ridiculous...") Oh, and proof that "Clark Kent"- at least, the clumsy dork who works at the DP- is NOT the core persona. *dances about* Words cannot express the sheer amount of love I have for this man. Not to mention that ending scene, when Kal gets through to Jor-El and Lara- I had tears in my eyes, and I don't think I've cried over a comic since the Death of Superman.

Oh, and Batman: The Complete History? This thing is like, a geekgasm on wheels. Srsly. There's so much amazing stuff here! The first EVER Batman comic strip, how Batman came into being (he was basically a pastiche of a whole bunch of contemporary heroes), the arrival of Robin, the *gag* Adam West series, B:TAS- it's all here. It was published back in '99, so no Batman Begins goodness (I think my head would explode from the awsome) Seriously, if you ever get the chance, pick it up. There are also Superman and Wonder Woman versions, although I haven't been able to find either yet.
swingandswirl: text 'tammy' in white on a blue background. (Default)
Sorry for the lateness of this post- between exams and holiday madness, I haven't had a chance to do anything about the DC Random Fact Fest.

*looks at the entry*

Ladies and gentlemen, we have TWENTY FIVE Random Fact Fics! w00t! *dances* I haven't been able to make my way through all of them yet, but the ones I *have* read have all been absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the awesome people who sent in entries! *offers cookies*

The Fest is, technically, over (last date was the 15th) but if anyone still wants to give in a Random Fact Fic, they're more than welcome to send me the link, and I'll add it to the master list.

For now, here's phase two of the DC Random Fact Fest!

How does it work? Simple. Read the fics, and if you're so inclined, create fic or art based on them. You can read all the rules at the main fest entry. [info]saavikam77 already set the ball rolling with this wonderful piece based off my RFF about Bruce Wayne, but you have until 15 February.

Happy reading!

A while back, iulia_linnea came up with the (awesome) idea of a 20 Random Facts Fest , which I adored. Now, Iulia's kindly given me the go-ahead to do something similar with DC, so I present:

The DC Random Facts Fest!

I'm hosting the fest on eljay, but anyone who journals at GreatestJournal, InsaneJournal, JournalFen, and/or InsaneJournal is welcome to participate. If you've got any questions, you're more than welcome to leave a comment here or give me a holler at quirkycirce at gmail dot com.

The idea behind the DC Random Facts fest, like the HP version, to encourage people to write twenty random facts about *any* character in the various DC universes, and also to use facts from other participants' entries as inspiration for fic and art. All three rounds of the Harry Potter Random Facts Fest have been a *huge* success (and loads of fun!), inspiring many incredible works of fic and art- hopefully we'll be able to inspire something similar with the DC version.

Here's how to take part:

0.There's no official sign-up or anything, just let me know where you've posted your entry, along with a link so I can add it to the main post.

1. Write a 20 Random Facts meme entry about any character in the various DC universes — there's no limit on the number of characters you can write, or the number of entries per character, so knock yourself out!

2. Make sure you have the character's name and the universe you're writing in as part of the header, whether comics, movie, animated, DC mainstream, WildStorm, Vertigo, or Smallville. AUs are okay, too, just mark them as such so people don't get any nasty surprises.

3. Post your meme entry unflocked in your journal, and then reply to this post telling me the character{s} about whom you've written), title, and URL, and I'll add it to the entries list. Please provide a link to the fest in your header information- there's a template further down you can use.

Here's a sample header:
Title: 20 Random Facts about [add your character's name]
Author: [info]your_username
Rating: G, PG, PG-13, R, or NC-17
Characters: Other characters, pairing if any.
Warning(s): Add if necessary.
Word Count: Up to you if you want to include it.
Disclaimer: The usual disclaimers are fine.
Author's Note(s): Written for the DC Random Facts Fest.

I'm accepting meme entries from now until 15 December.

Re: fic and art

1. Read the other meme entries; comment on them because feedback is love! When you find a fact that you feel should be turned into a fic or illustration, write or illustrate it! You may submit as many fics and illustrations as you like to the fest, and you should feel free to incorporate multiple facts from any meme entry into your submissions.

2. Post your fact-based fic or art entry UNLOCKED in your journal, and then reply to this post telling me its title and URL. Remember to note in your header information whose meme entry and which fact(s) inspired your fic or art by providing the author's linked user name and linking to his or her entry. Please also provide a link to the fest in your header information.

I'm accepting fic and art entries from 16 December until 31 January.

5. Read the fics and view the illustrations; comment on them because feedback is love!

Other Important Stuff:

1. Please include ratings and any appropriate warnings in your entries' header information.

2. All entries must be under an LJ-cut

3. If a low-rated meme entry inspires you to produce a high-rated fest entry, please check with the author if it's okay before you submit it to the fest.

Note:

Although the Harry Potter Random Facts Fest is being publicly hosted on LiveJournal, you don't have to have an LJ account to participate. You can use Open ID to comment on the fest post (and fest entries posted to journaling sites other than your own), else you can comment anonymously to the fest post if you "sign" your comment and tell me where you primarily journal.

~*~

The DC Random Facts Fest begins now! Participants should submit their meme entries from now until 15 December. Fic writers and artists should submit their fest entries from 16 December until 31 January. I'll post a fully updated master list of all entries in early February.

I can't wait to see what y'all produce for this fest! Please be sure to pimp this *everywhere*, and let's all have unholy amounts of pressure-free, meme-y fun!

w00t! I had the most awesome, if rather low-key birthday. The whole thing was spread out over this week (long story) which is why this thank-you post has taken so long.

First off: *hugs everyone who wished her* Thanks, y'all! I'm the luckiest person in the world, to have such awesome people in my life...

On to the goodies:

  • [profile] sasha_anu wrote me this gorgeous girl!Clark story, which I cannot recommend enough. Also, her Bruce is made of win. *grins* It will be well worth the hurt she's threatened to inflict on me to see a continuation of this story... XD
  • [profile] taro_twist drew me this incredible, incredible Bruce/Clark fanart. What are y’all still doing here? Go see! *shoos everyone over to C’s journal* I would give anything to have that as my notebook cover so I could stare at it all day… *glares at stupid Indian conventions*
  • [personal profile] tmelange sent me cake! *blows out candle and munches happily*

As for RL:

  • My dad got me a black 80 GB iPod. *grins* I LOVE being Daddy’s little girl… (that said, I have like 70GB of free space on the thing. Recommendations, anyone?)
  • [profile] aspire_amita burned me a CD of my favourite songs, including some old Aqua stuff I didn’t think ANYONE still had. Thanks, Ami!
  • A gift voucher to one of my favourite stores from my best friend, but even better than that- we finally had a long chat and sorted out some of the shit that's been going on with us. *cheers*
  • I went out to a bunch of different places with different groups of friends, and each outing rocked!
In short, Tammy is a VERY happy kitten right now.
swingandswirl: text 'tammy' in white on a blue background. (Default)
Note to self: never, ever go to the Superman movie section of FF.net. The place is infested with Clois shippers. Ugh.

Because I am bored (and I hate Lois) I made up a list of story arcs/Elseworlds where she and Kal don’t end up together. Which actually are quite a few.

1. Superman: The Dark Side (Kal/Barda)
2. Superman: A Nation Divided
3. Elseworld’s Finest (Kal/Talia and Bruce/Lana o.O)
4. Kingdom Come
5. A League of One (If this isn't Kal/Diana I will eat my hat)
6. This post-nuclear Armageddon Elseworld where only the metas survived the devastation, don’t remember the name but I think it was Superman: At Earth’s End. (Kal/Diana again)
7. Superman/Batman: Generations v1 (Kal/Lana and possible Kal/Lana/Bruce O.O)
8. Shogun of Steel (Actual, honest-to-god Bruce/Kal canon! *squees*)
swingandswirl: text 'tammy' in white on a blue background. (Default)
I was depressed after reading DKR, so I made a list to cheer myself up. I’m surprised something like this hasn’t already been made, frankly… Thanks to T for 7 and 8!

YOU KNOW YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH SUPERMAN/BATMAN WHEN:
  1.  You are disappointed when Batman does not appear in your *Superman*-central comic/story arc
  2. You can recite, from memory, at least five instances where Superman and Batman acted like a married couple in canon.
  3. You refresh the URL of your favourite S/B community at least three times a day looking for new fic.
  4. You insist on reading slashy vibes into a fic even after the author tells you it’s gen. Repeatedly.
  5. Despite years of canon evidence to the contrary, you continue to insist that Lois, Selina and Diana are beards.
  6. You are convinced that Superman’s wedding to Lois was a fake, a cleverly designed smokescreen to hide the REAL relationship.
  7. You're convinced Superman and Batman have done it at least once on the conference room table of the JLA headquarters.
  8. You're convinced that the kyrptonite ring Superman gave Batman is comic book code for a wedding ring.

That’s about all I could think of. Any suggestions, y’all?
