Hath No Fury

Ian finds Colbie at Gonzales', eyes red, a row of empty shot glasses on the table.

"Bad case?" he asks.

Colbie chuckles, raw, mirthless. "I wish," she says. "Was following a lead, found my husband sucking face with some two-bit blonde hussy."

"Fuck, Granger," Ian says. "I'm sorry."

Colbie tips another shot of whiskey back. "Don't be. Wasn't the first time. Won't be the last."

Ian growls. "Can I beat him up for you? Or hold your jacket while you do it?"

Colbie grins, dark and deadly. "Didn't your mama ever tell you, Ian? Don't get mad, get even."

*************

Ian's morals might be fluid, but he's got some rules.

No means no, stop means stop, and underage is off limits. So are married women.

Except right now he's kissing Colbie Granger against his motel room door and he's pretty sure they're going to get horizontal soon.

He should stop this, put her in a cab and go take a cold shower.

But he knows Colbie. Knows that right now she's a powder keg waiting to blow and at least he's clean and sober and willing to use protection.

Nevertheless, he should say no, for both their sakes.

He doesn't.

**********

Colbie breaks away and heads towards the bed, and Ian's eyes can't help but be drawn to the curve of her ass in her skinny jeans.

She's sex on legs and danger incarnate and while every rational part of Ian's brain is screaming at him to back off there's a larger part of him that wants to see just where this wild ride will take him.

Still, he has to ask. "You sure about this, Colbie?"

She looks at him for a long moment before pulling off her wedding ring and dropping it on the bedside table.

It's answer enough.

*********

When he wakes up, the room's empty. The only reminders of last night are the welts on his back and a piece of paper on the pillow next to him.

Ian unfolds it. Thank you, it says. There's no signature, but the lipstick print is the same shade he kissed off Colbie's mouth last night.

Ian closes his eyes for a moment before crumpling the paper and sending it flying into the wastepaper bin. Colbie might have left behind a thank-you note not a twenty-dollar bill, but that doesn't mean he feels any less like a cheap whore.

********

What Ian thinks is a night of comfort soon turns into an all-out affair. He and Colbie fuck in his motel room, her car, the FBI, even her marital bed.

Ian knows he should stop, should get out of this while he still has a little bit of dignity, a little bit of pride left to salvage.

But he's never been able to say no to Colbie Granger. And every time he sees her sad eyes and her tattered composure, he can't stop himself from wanting to fix his beautiful soldier girl.

Even if fixing her breaks him beyond saving.

************

Inevitably, unsurprisingly, they get caught. Colbie's riding Ian when her husband walks in on them.

"What the hell, Colbie?" Paul sputters.

Colbie laughs, raw and mirthless. She raises herself off the bed and stalks towards Paul, naked as the day she was born, beautiful in her brokenness.

"You can dish it out but you can't take it, can you?" she taunts. "What, you think I didn't know about all the women you fucked in our bed, you bastard?"

In different circumstances, Ian would have laughed at the look on Paul’s face. Right now he winces at Colbie’s perfect right cross.

********

Colbie shoves a sheaf of paper at Paul, Ian catching a glint of green among the white.

"Here are your divorce papers. And a twenty so you can buy yourself another cheap whore. I hope you fuck her better than you did me, you selfish limpdick jerk. Now get out."

She shuts the door behind him and turns to Ian, lopsided smile on her face and something broken in her eyes. "Now where were we?"

Halfway to hell, Ian wants to respond, but instead he offers her his hand, because damned if this thing with Colbie isn't also his salvation.
