    An infantry turret

    A turret was a mount for a weapon that enabled it to turn and pivot, allowing it to fire in many different directions. They were mounted on many vehicles, starfighters, and starships. Weapons mounted on turrets included laser cannons and other types of projectile cannons.[1] A hoverturret was a repulsorlift-propelled turret.[2]

    Tanks, tank-like vehicles, and walkers usually had their main weapon mounted on a swiveling turret, although they could also have smaller side-mounted turret weapons.[3][4] Examples included the Armored Assault Tank,[3] the Defoliator Deployment Tank,[5] and the All Terrain Tactical Enforcer.[6] Other ground vehicles that were fitted with turrets included the Flash speeder,[4] the Imperial Troop Transport,[7] and the WLO-5 battle tank.[1]

    Starfighters and aerial vehicles that were equipped with turrets included the droid gunship,[8] the Republic attack gunship,[9] and the Phantom.[10]

    Starships that were equipped with turrets included the Republic frigate,[1] the Consular-class space cruiser,[8] Merchant One,[11] the Ghost,[10] and the Phoenix.[12]

    A technique for turbocharging a turret's servos was developed at some point on the icy world of Hoth. The technique involved injecting alternating streams of fuel and coolant into the turret's machinery. It was later adapted for use on starship mounted turrets. Pirates like that of the Rokana Raiders would over-clock the firing controls of their ship's turret systems in order to allow them to fire faster and longer.[13]

    In 3 ABY,[14] Kay Vess was told of the turbocharging servo technique as part of a reward for completing a smuggling contract for the Miyuki Trade League. During the same year, Vess also recovered information about the over-clocking technique used by the Rokana Raiders from an encryption sealed container in the Khepi system.[13]
