The hesten were a species of primates.

A primate or simian was any member of the group of animals that included veermoks, hesten, tach, and momongs. The equatorial forests of Ryloth notably hosted carnivorous primates. The All Terrain MegaCaliber Six walkers used by the First Order had a knuckle-walking gait reminiscent of those used by simians and were given the nickname Gorilla Walker.
