Hey, Zuko here [personal profile] starvalisedham here. Welcome to my fannish corner of the Internet.

Everything I post is public except for anything related to fic, so if you somehow found me from AO3 or something, then I suggest requesting admission to my Access List. But otherwise, lurk away!

My two active fandoms are Young Royals and Alex Rider, but a few old fandoms might pop up every now and again. We'll see how it goes.

Feel free to drop me a line and ask questions on this sticky, or to comment on any post in this journal no matter how 'old'. Time has no meaning to me.

My personal fandom calendar
  • February 2024: The Last Airbender
  • March 2024: Young Royals S3
  • April 2024: Alex Rider S3
  • May/June 2024: Bridgerton S3

This week's questions were interesting, although I struggled with sharing without sharing too much 😂 The Internet is a wide, empty space, yeah?

Apparently, this year is the year where I reclaim my "lost" childhood--not to sound drastic or anything, I just mean that I've been reading a lot of kids' books these last few months as a bid to "catch-up" and properly immerse myself in the stories I loved (or should have loved) as a child.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge: Tell us about a personal win.

I completed a WIP last Friday. It wasn't one of my longer multi-chapter fics but was just a chat fic that had gotten out of hand. Nevertheless, I've listed it as having more than one chapter over on AO3 and stopped regularly updating it about three-fourths of the way in--which is typical of me, but!!!

ON FRIDAY!!!

On Friday, real life has slowed down enough and has coincided with the right amount of spoons for me to finally finish the last few chapters. I polished the words I wanted to update, created the media related to the fic itself, and used some boring computer and HTML trickery to make it all work out in the end.

I love chat fics. I swear I do. But for the number of words you see "on the page", there's at least three times as much work/effort done in the background. It's all a bit ridiculous, really, and I don't know why I do this to myself.

But yeah. That story's complete and I'm mighty chuffed about it.

I've also created a Prompt Meme for my main fandom (any Young Royals fans still on here? 😅) and launched it earlier this month. There are about twenty-plus requests on there, last I checked, with several unposted claims and one posted work. I'm incredibly pleased with its reception in the fandom, and I look forward to seeing it grow as time goes by!

Would you believe that I've reached the tender age of [redacted] without reading Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events? They simply were not the popular book series of choice when I was a kid, so unfortunately my first encounter with this book series was the 2004 movie--and, more recently, that of the Netflix series, which rekindled my mild interest in it.

It's been a hot second since I've posted earnestly on here and lemme tell you guys: so much has happened since then. My tumblr got unshadowbanned (a good thing social-wise but definitely a bad thing re: my productivity) and two-point-five of my favourite shows dropped and I've had enough time since then to step back and just... process it all.

Now, I'm returning to my slow-paced hobbies. Let's crack on with last week's Friday Five, yeah?

This wouldn't be much of an entry because I'm literally in the middle of watching the third season of Alex Rider, but... S3E4: Recruit???

Oh my God.

Mild spoilers ahead. )

We really are living in the best timeline, aren't we?

Ahh, food. My greatest enemy (affectionate).

I'm such an equal opportunity eater--aside from clear boundaries, which will be explained below--that to choose between two options is just... pure evil, I think. Absolute nefariousness. How on earth am I to survive?

Five Things! The five things are totally up to you.

Here are five books I've read purely for fandom reasons. These aren't books I've read because someone in the fandom recc'd them to me (as is the case with RWRB, a story for another time), nor are they books I've enjoyed so much and therefore felt compelled to join that particular fandom.

No, these are instances where the fandoms I'm already in inspired me to read a book I otherwise would not have picked up. This is why my TBR list keeps growing tbqh.

I'm doing this in reverse chronological reading order, so...

Five Books I've Read Because of Fandom Reasons )

Have you read any of these books? Has your fandom of choice inspired you to read random books like mine have?? Got a funny story about the things fandom made you do? I'm all ears!

I know I'm a few days late for this particular Friday Five but in my defence... I just discovered this comm really recently and time is wibbly wobbly anyway? I haven't posted here on DW in a while due to a myriad of reasons, the least of which is my being very careful to avoid spoilers for YRS3--because, yes, I still haven't gotten around to finishing it.

I don't want to jinx anything, but this is feeling so much like Merlin S5 all over again.

But I digress. Here's my response to [community profile] thefridayfive's questions for this past Friday. I'm such a language nerd and I'll take any excuse to gush about my language learning journey!

I'm not gonna comment on the comm and say I've done this. I have a habit of doing things late and, while I'm not ashamed of it, it's kind of like strolling in halfway through a lecture with Starbucks and that's just... not the vibe I want to bring to the world. So I'm just gonna hang around in my little sandbox in peace! I wonder what next Friday will bring?

I know we've known that season three will be released this March but NGL the 11th kind of came out of nowhere for me and, as a result, I find myself not at all prepared for it. I mean... I tried to do a re-watch. I also severely underestimated how much this show affects me and how busy I could get with IRL stuff, and so that has sort of fallen by the wayside.

Still. Season three. Series three, for those who prefer that term. S3. Hiiiiii, I'm pleased to finally meet your acquaintance.

I watched episode one hours upon hours ago and am doing a re-watch of it while I write this entry--or I should say, I'm re-watching the episode right now and will be typing my thoughts as I go along.

I had so many--and I still have a lot, who am I kidding?--and I had hoped to discuss it with other fans, but either they've all moved on to other episodes (understandable) or they're all vibing on Tumblr (likely, but I've unfollowed a lot of YR blogs for fear of spoilers, so... yeah). Also, timezones?? The bane of my existence.

Am I complaining about a mess of my own making? Definitely. Regardless, I'm here on DW again.

Heads up, this is going to be a looong entry! Spoilers ahead.

I think it's best to stop here for now. Graham Lake's song "C'est la vie" is an absolute banger, by the by, and the show so far has not disappointed with its choices for the soundtrack.

I absolutely love it when my fandoms intersect. It's like playing a version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon where everything is somehow connected if we only try hard enough. Case in point: Charithra Chandran plays Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton S2, but she has also played Sabina Pleasance in the Alex Rider TV show.

This isn't news. I've been ever so chuffed every time I do a re-watch of either show and I see Charithra--it's like seeing an old friend outside of school, although it somehow goes both ways? Like... what's Sabina doing in hanging out with the Bridgertons? What's Edwina doing surfing at a beach in Cornwall??

So, here's the thing: I've been ill this past week and I'm still feeling a tad poorly. It's a Monday and I'm far too irritable to be navigating through pointless social niceties with a smile, even though I do so anyway because one false move and things will fall apart. Such is life. C'est la vie, etc etc.

I sure hope that I get better soon because I have *plans*. )
starvalisedham: (books)
Here's the thing: I cooked up a bunch of fairytale AU ideas for my OTP last summer, and I ran it by my number one brainrot supporter (my dearest, loveliest IRL who betas for me sometimes) and they were like, "The BatB AU sounds interesting." Personally, I liked the Little Mermaid AU a tad bit more, but... what my monsterfucker bestie wants, my monsterfucker bestie gets.

(In a sense. I haven't written a single word for this AU but, rest assured, the idea is percolating.)

Which is why I've decided to read the original The Beauty and the Beast novel by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. And by original, I don't mean the OG French version--I'm interested in the story, but not that interested that I'll learn a whole new language for it. Sorry!

So I sourced myself an English version. In fact, I went ahead and sourced several English versions.

So... Amazon finally released the trailer for the third season of the Alex Rider TV show. It could not have come at a better time (that is to say, within the last twenty-four hours) because I am having A Time™ right now. Can't wait for this week to be over.

While I don't know if this will work, I'm still throwing my lot with the HTML gods and that some of their tech-y magic will work with me today. For some reason?? Amazon has neglected to upload the trailer on YouTube, which is. A Decision. Here's a link to the trailer, just in case.

But anyway, the S3 is set to drop on April 5th. Totally serendipitous, I know, that it will not clash with the release of Young Royals S3. I don't know what I'd do if they were released in the same month or--I dread to think!--in the same week?? My brain would melt.

My thoughts on the trailer! )

I'm so excited!
