Mar. 26th, 2023 09:12 pmthe thing about the whole Is Autistic Masking* Unique To Women is that i’m pretty sure my father masks harder than i do.
*and also UUGGGHHHH GOD GOD I HATE THAT WORD. it’s rapidly becoming yet another piece of jargon with a not-immediately obvious meaning, the phrase “faking allistic/nonautistic/neurotypical” obfuscates less about what it is. i may just be being petty because it’s part of the vocabulary of #ActuallyAutistic twitter and i hold a variety of petty personal grudges against them

Feb. 5th, 2023 09:08 ami prefer to call myself an autist for three reasons, one of them being that it neatly sidesteps the handwringing over "person with autism" vs "autistic person", the second of which is that i learned that it was originally a neutral (well as neutral as any medical term for autism) descriptor and i kind of want to bring that back. fuck you, the word "autism" is not inherently an insult unless you make it so.
the third reason is that- so there's this really old post i made about how i kind of think that autism (diagnosis) and autism (insult) are two groups that overlap a lot but are not the same thing, and when it comes to people who are autistic (insult) but not autistic (diagnosis) and people who are autistic (diagonsis) but not autistic (insult), i relate much more to the former than the latter, and "autist"-as-insult is frequently used to describe those people as opposed to the autism-only-as-diagnosis people and i wish to signify this affiliation.

idk just braindumping
Apr. 3rd, 2022 02:43 pmthe main thing about "saying autistic people don't have theory of mind is ableist" that pisses me off is that when i learned what theory of mind was, it was like a lightbulb went off in my head.
that was it. that was what was wrong in my head and that was why Living In A Society and befriending people was so damn hard. and knowing what i had trouble with was insanely helpful in figuring out how to better interact with others.
and then i showed up in the autism community, said i had trouble with theory of mind, and then got yelled at because "the idea that autistic people don't have theory of mind is ableist and you only believe that because something something internalized ableism"

an incomplete list of the most autistic things in the world:
> girls und panzer
> the visual novel database
> the rationalist movement
> all of those mobile games that are about objects of great historical import being personified as cute anime people
EDIT: > tvtropes, holy shit i can't believe that i forgot tvtropes

the thing where genshin has npcs who are socially-awkward infodumpy nerds and then through the dialogue options informs us that we are supposed to find these characters annoying and pathetic would obviously be super fucking annoying, but the fact that genshin impact as a game is one of the biggest fucking autist traps that i've ever encountered just makes it that much more confusing.
"All neurodivergencies are invisible disabilities" is kind of an oversimplification, IMO. Just speaking from experience, while my position on the visible/invisible disability spectrum (which is a topic for another day) fluctuates, there have definitely been scenarios where I'm walking around with big, bulky, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses indoors, while carrying a stuffed animal.
Someone who looks at me might not go "Oh, they're autistic", but they will notice that Something's Up, and this definitely carries over to the way I get treated by other people.

does obsessively dunking on the cringe retards make you feel better? does it fill the gnawing hole inside of you? does it help reassure you that you're not as cringe as you think you are? when you misappropriate neurodivergent people's terminology to make fun of them, does it make you feel better? do you and your friends bond over your shared seething hatred of neurodivergent people who like youtubers you think are cringe? how does that feel? does it make you feel better about yourself?

*screams into pillow* FUCK DOCTORS
Jun. 8th, 2021 04:12 pmjust a pro-tip for all the doctors out there- if your (adult) patient brings a stuffed animal to your appointment, please do not forget that they are not a literal child. if this proves hard for you, you can make it easier by simply not referencing the stuffed animal if an opportunity provides itself.
