There has been dashing and crashing and shenanigans, but also, new Doctor Who! Dude, I need a new icon!
I liked Matt Smith! I was not at all sure I would - he is not my type, really, especially as himself, and I did have "um, he looks twelve and he's the DOCTOR?" feelings. But in action he is not bad at ALL, I was very impressed. He sort of had flashes of lots of the other doctors, rolled into one, and even the clothes were less David Tennant Revisited in the episode itself.
My main thoughts about Amy are that she is 1. SUH-MOKING HOT and 2. Donna Noble. No, really: mouthy red-head who actually tells the Doctor he's being a wazzock? Donna! Amy is even leaving with the Doctor just before her wedding! (Me and the friend I watched it with both went "SHE'S BLOODY GETTING MARRIED ISN'T SHE" at the "what's happening tomorrow?" "nothing!" bit.) I feel kind of sad about that - it just rings of 'Oh, we love the idea of Donna, but Catherine Tate is too old and not hot enough', which... Jesus H., world, Catherine Tate is neither old nor in any way lacking in hotness. Sure, Amy has serious Legs, and I appreciate that, but if you wanted Donna as a companion? You already HAVE Donna! I thought Donna was great, and would very much appreciate more actual Donna, even!
I could just about wave it though thanks to the clear desire of the team to redo everything: new Doctor, new TARDIS, new themetune, even new sonic screwdriver. And I liked that Amy gets actual backstory right off the bat, although I would also kind of appreciate her not being a kissogram. I hope they do the boyfriend/fiance plot better this time than they did with Rose and Mickey, too. Hmm.
I am kind of mostly looking forward to the rest of the series now! The eyeball aliens were creepy while they were in the crack in the wall and the whole thing was obviously setting up for the rest of the series, but I am totally all "The Weeping Angels are back! So is River Song! Vampires! AWESOME!" It is looking set to be fun. Yay.
(Fish custard sounds the wrongest thing to ever wrong, though, and I really, really hope they don't have Amy fancy the Doctor. I loved teeny Amelia - and the fact the actressess really are related! - but if they then decide it makes sense to have that a crush thing I will want to smite people.)
Other news: Ellen Page is kind of one of the best things ever, just saying.
Finally, a housekeeping note - I'm doing a bit of flist trimming, in a 'cack, I can't realistically keep up with everyone' way. It's not a big deal, I hope, but I figure not mentioning it would probably bring drama, and also it is worth re-iterating that it's always De-friending Amnesty Day here for anyone who'd rather not listen to me blather. :)
