The Fandom Snowflake Challenge

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I know this is hard. Believe me, I know. For some of us it’s hard to think of something at all, and for others it’s even harder to proclaim it to the world.

You know who it’s not hard for? Children. Little tiny humans have absolutely no problem in both thinking they’re wonderful and proclaiming it--loudly--to anyone who will listen. In my non-fandom life, I take care of tiny humans and I am constantly amazed by their egos and self-confidence. I find myself asking, “How can they know they are the best at everything?”

One day, I got the answer. I was doing some coloring with a favorite 2yo, let’s call him Legolas, and we had this conversation:

Me: Wow Legolas, that’s a great picture. Look at those colors you chose! Look at all those squiggles! You did a really good job!

Legolas: I did a good job?

Me: Yes. A really good job.

Legolas (puffing out his tiny 2yo chest): I’m a good-jobber!

Me (hugging him super tight): You are a good jobber!

And that is why children have such great self-confidence, because they have people in their lives that tell them that they are great, that they have value. I weep for what it was in all of us that took that away.
