Crossovers The Laughing Professor by Captain_Emily Crossover: Harry Potter and Hellblazer; Harry Potter, John Constantine; G) Is Hogwarts really ready for the cynical, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking Professor John Constantine? I have mixed feeling about Hellblazer as I've never quite managed to get into it although what I've read has been good, but this crossover is perfectly done.
Suits Nurse Fernandez by mskatej (Suits; Harvey/Mike; NC-17) A fill for this prompt from suitsmeme: ‘Mike gets hit by a car. By Harvey’s car. While Harvey is driving it.’ Yeah, that happens and then it just descends into porn. Natch. HELLO Harvey! A funny and hot fic.
Pizza And A Movie by Closer In an alternate universe, Harvey's still a lawyer but Mike's not a pot runner -- he's a deliveryman for Rollo's Pizza and Ribs, which happens to be Harvey's favorite pizza place. Once Harvey finds out his pizza guy is a genius, Mike's life takes a few turns he would not have expected... A very enjoyable Suits au, where things aren't really very au.
Supernatural The Chuck Writes Story by lettered (Supernatural AU; Chuck, the Supernatural book fandom, Sam, Dean, Becky; PG) Chuck decides to make a sock-puppet. When no one reads his fic, he wonders what he has to do to get noticed in SPN fandom. (slightly AU for S4) Absorbing fandom au for Supernatural.
Marvel Remember I smiled by gloss (Marvel comics; G; Sam Wilson & Eli Bradley) Sam Wilson and Eli Bradley and a simple gift of a cup of coffee A drabble that manages to say an awful lot about these two characters.
Pentimenti by musesfool (Captain America; Bucky, Steve; G) Bucky always hated "The Gift of the Magi." Set just after Winter Soldier: Winter Kills, Bucky gives Steve a Christmas present.
fuckyeahblackwidow. I love this tumblr dedicated to Natasha Romanov, The Black Widow. It is full of intelligent and interesting commentary on her appearances in comics and the movies.
- I am definitely buying this issue of Tiny Titans - Batgirls! Batgirls!. They've even got Bette!
- I saw of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and really enjoyed watching it although I came out of the cinema feeling curiously flat. I suppose it was because is the final one and there wasn't a cliffhanger? I don't know. I'm now desperate to read Seventh Year fic about Neville. Can anyone (lyras?) point me in the right direction?
- I finally watched the first four episodes of Avatar and I am completely charmed. I'm really looking forward to the rest of it.
- My plan for this evening is to reply to comments and emails. I was ridiculously busy last week with job applications and getting ready for my graduation and I barely had a minute to myself. This was the first graduation that I've actually enjoyed, despite the fact that most of the people I'd hoped to see weren't there. I got to wear a very silly hat and robes in my favourite colour and the event was surprisingly relaxed despite vast quantities of processing around The Founder's Building and fanfares from the Life Guards(???).
- Have some recs
This Town We're Painting by Fahye (St Trinian's; Teen; Annabelle Fritton/Kelly Jones) She'd never expected to find herself a government employee. But these days Kelly had a boss who'd never once tried to hit on her, an expense account of apparently exospheric height, and a job that was almost as fun as outright crime. I rewatched St Trinian's the other day and this is exactly the future fic I wanted. Makes perfect use of the St Trinian's old girls network.
Twenty-Year Man by ellen_fremedon (Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold; Explicit; Ivan Vorpatril/Byerly Vorrutyer) Lord Ivan Vorpatril and Byerly Vorrutyer, making Vorbarr Sultana safe for (highly limited experiments in) democracy. Fascinating and plotty fic where Ivan accidentally stumbles upon Barrayaran political intrigue and decides to investigate. This fulfills my desire for competent Ivan fic. Which reminds me, there's a new book out, isn't there and I haven't even tried to find it. I must remedy that when I've read A Dance with Dragons.)
vega_writes posted the final part in her beautiful and heartbreaking McCoy/Chapel American Civil War AU. The first part is southern anthem, the second part is scarlet tide and the final part is sinning hands. Rated R. Warnings: McCoy is still married and there are graphic descriptions of 19th Century medicine. When Christine Chapel is nineteen years old, she runs away from home to serve as a nurse in the Confederate army. I recommend this unreservedly and the author does a fantastic job of maintaining the tension throughout.
And finally this Harry/Draco fandom revival party may be of interest to a couple of people who read this journal. I haven't had a chance to look at it, but it looks like there are a lot of recs. Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch Half Blood Prince tomorrow or Sunday.
There is a REMUS/SIRIUS LOVE POST of fantastic awesomeness over at imochan's journal. Remus/Sirius was the reason I found livejournal, and the first people I friended were all Remus/Sirius writers. This reminded me exactly how much I loved that pairing. Check it out. So much fic, art, recs and love. Wow! 9 pages of comments! It was only 3 when I first saw it a few days ago. And there will be dogdaysofsummer 2009.
I love the idea of the community idk_ofc. As you may guess it is a community for ofc fic. I don't think anythng has been posted yet but yay original characters. They make me very happy even when they are blatant Mary Sues.
The new Star Trek recs comm crackenterprise is also making me very happy.
This got way longer than I expected. 5 Harry Potter, 5 Supernatural, 2 Smallville and 1 crossover recs. ( Collapse )
I've been very sleepy all day, but that is what happens when I actually go to bed and then wake up at a sensible time. I actually managed to be productive at work today which is very unusual at the moment.
Random clicking on links from the spnnewsletter was unusually successful at lunchtime. I was intrigued by the title of this fic. Sweets for the Sweet (or That One Time Dean Worked In A Candy Store) by blualbino. Supernatural. Gen. PG-13. Dean’s convinced he’s too fit for his job. He has a six pack, and works in a candy store. There’s definitely something wrong there. It is a dream-like fic, where you don't quite know which part of Dean's life is reality.
At the moment my favourite thing is to come across references to familiar English things in fiction. In particular the little details about life, things like types of food, phrases and sayings or situations that are unique to the UK. I don't come across very many things like this because the vast majority of things I am fannish about are American. I'd understand this more if I was abroad and feeling homesick, but I'm in Surrey for heavens sake. Bonus points go to people who aren't actually English and manage to do this in their work. Here are a few examples of things that have pinged me in this way recently.
I'm really enjoying the excellent original fic Enquiring Minds (Want to Know) by cobalt_violet. Original Fiction. OMC/OMC. PG-13. "It is not until James has spotted the third member of the paparazzi lurking behind a bush that he realises something is up. Again." Two actors, a whole lot of rumours and a little bit of denial. It is like reading really good RPS but unaccompanied that really uncomfortable intrusive feeling because the characters aren't real people (although James and Daniel seem far more real than most RPS).
Breakfast by glockgal. Harry Potter. Harry/Draco. G. Art. Sadly, I occasionally eat the cereal pictured. I have just rediscovered her art and it is all gorgeous. (The author scoradh who inspired the prompt is also excellent).
There are a couple of Harry Potter authors who have stories that I could include in this list, possibly byblythe, pir8fancier and A.J. Hall. I am too tired to find actual stories.
Anything to do with Being Human. OK watching this does actually make me homesick for Bristol. I haven't read much fanfic as yet but I just found beinghuman_fic and I am planning to explore that now I've watched the whole series. I was very excited about the large number of Being Human prompts for the Gen Battle last month but I don't think any of them were filled in the end.
Today was a good day. I managed to wake up early and it only took about 20 minutes and a single phone call to sort out the problems with my museum pass. Now I can actually get in and out of my own department. Even after it was done I kept worrying that it wouldn't work and repeatedly tested it every time I left the office.
I could not believe this when I saw it. Neville has grown up and is now disturbingly hot. My brain cannot compute this.
I spent far too much time chatting about nerdy things with innerbrat and I still feel a little bit bad for being so distracting. She was kind enough to lend me a couple of Green Arrow graphic novels and we both got very excited discussing about Being Human. Everyone should watch it. Because how can you resist "A werewolf, a vampire and a ghost sharing a house in Bristol"? I think it is impossible. I am now trying to convince her to watch The Middleman.
I then met my parents, who had been in London visiting the Remaking of Iran exhibition at the British Museum. We went out for Thai food and I had chicken Satay and then Pad Thai because I know i like it. For dessert I had sticky rice with coconut and mango which was, um interesting. I enjoyed the sticky rice but the sesame seeds overpowered the other flavours. It was lovely seeing Mum and Dad and I think they were glad of a chance to feed me properly (not that I really need it).
I thought that I'd pick the first story I could think of from each of the fandoms that I enjoy and share them. There isn't really anything linking them together apart from the fact that each story made me go awww, but in very different ways.
Tolkein Title: The Prince and the Librarian Author: Sazziel Characters: Eldarion/OFC Rating: General Summary: Warning – this isn’t finished, the last chapter is missing and it hasn’t been updated for a year and a half. Despite that it is adorable and reminds me that there isn’t enough Eldarion fic out there.
Supernatural Title: ritual sacrifice with pie Author: musesfool Characters: Dean/Emily Rating: Adult Summary: “I think the gentlemanly thing to do would be to…have sex with me." Emily (from Scarecrow) calls the boys for some help when she discovers a series of ritual murders.
Harry Potter Title: Weasley Once More Author: lyras Characters: Percy, various Weasleys Rating: General Summary: This one made me cry – it was one of the first things that I read after finishing Deathly Hallows.
Veronica Mars Title: Movie Night Author: louie91 Characters: Logan,Veronica, Lilly, Duncan Rating: Sort of Adult Summary: I’m pretty sure that this never happened, but it is so cute that I don’t really care. Pre-series, the four friends meet up to watch a movie and things don't quite go the way Lilly intends.
