Mysterious women sometimes in space

I am behind on my feed and comments (sorry if I owe you a reply!) but I am feeling human again and I have a half clean house (goal to get it scrubbed shiny clean by tomorrow because our real estate is finally fixing some things \o/ praise be) and a semi-refreshed collection of icons and I'm killing my dragcave holly contest goals, so y'know. Not so bad really.

Stuff I have watched while convalescing:

One Day At A Time (some general spoilers)
Oh my god, so I had seen this and put it in my maybe watch pile cause it looked like a cool concept (apparently it's a remake? I have zero exposure to the original) but I hate laugh tracks and I generally prefer drama to comedy and yeah. Wasn't sure. But I saw at least two people rec it on DW and then someone told me it had a good queer storyline, so I gave it a try. And I mainlined the entire thing in a day (only takes like six hours!) and now I have an EPIC sad that there isn't already more.

I think I probably find this show extra interesting because I'm not American, so while I have a passing awareness of some things like the immigration stuff, being a (female) veteran, and Cuban culture specifically, a lot of this was new ground. I get the feeling this was also a more nuanced/realistic approach than a lot of other stuff I've seen referencing these sorts of themes too. It has that feel of representation of certain groups by the same groups. (Super open to opinions from people who know better than me though!)

It's also an excellent example of why diverse media is so awesome too though, because genre wise there's really no reason at all for me personally to like it. But the characters just really made this show in such a wonderful way. Even Brooklyn Nine Nine (which I do love just in small spaced out doses and I am overdue to catch it up and keep putting it off...) I have minimal oomph for cause comedy. Adorable amazing comedy, but so very much comedy. *makes meh face at all sitcoms*

As far as the queer storyline goes, I found it very realistic. Crossing fingers that they give the daughter a storyline not solely about a certain homophobic dick/about coming out next season, though. But it makes sense for a coming out story to be central to a teenage character, and it felt really real that she was pretty chill if a bit unsure and scared but everyone around her was mostly the source of any massive reactions.

Blindspot (spoilers for up to 1x19 and a bit beyond)
OH MY GOD HELLO SHOW OF AWESOME.

Ahem. So Lady Sif running around with tattoos and amnesia and guns and muscles and potential subtexty lady friends is TOTALLY my jam. I mean, look, this isn't a surprise really. But I am looooooving this. I'm only part way through the first season and I'm having to take it in chunks, because wow there is a lot of gunshots and loud noises and stuff. I'm okay with the violence especially for the genre, but the soundtrack is a bit wearing and headache inducing in long stretches. It's not really helping that I'm watching this on pay TV so it's not like I can set my iPad sound low and use headphones for better clarity at low levels, like I would with something like say Daredevil on Netflix.

I accidentally spoiled myself a bit looking up cast names early on, so I have some idea of the big identity reveal beyond what I've watched (namely that she is South African and not Taylor, please don't tell me more) which has helped me watch the bits where she has her boring vanilla tension thing with the male lead who I am otherwise very fond of.

I love Mayfair even when she's a bit sketchy and I reaaaaally love that they're giving her multiple romantic storylines/interests, that's so great for both a lesbian character of colour and especially for an older lesbian (I think she ID's as lesbian? That was my vibe from the husband convo, but I may have the wrong end of the stick and she's bi...) so that just makes me roll around with glee. I also mad ship Jane/Tasha and various combos of Jane/Tasha/Patterson, and APPARENTLY ARCHIE PANJABI IS IN FUTURE EPISODES and this show is just a world of: I can die a happy lesbian. Hopefully nobody dies. Actually, that is the only spoiler I want so I can brace myself, if a canonical queer woman dies in future eps please feel free to PM me the details.

I was also just generally really impressed with the sex positivity. Like, the casual reference to kink and safewords in Kurt's otherwise very heteronormative side romance for instance just had me applauding.

The other thing I did was bang out three [community profile] fandom_stocking fics in various states of rush. It's been so long since I wrote fic that I'm tossing up whether to bother cross-posting the actual text like I used to. On one hand - back up and nostalgic habit? On the other hand - like does anybody even look for fic outside AO3 anymore anyway? At any rate, here are some things, you may see me crosspost them properly again at a later date idk.
