Hi, and thanks for taking a look at my letter!
General Likes & Loves: Time travel fixit; time travel with the glorious angst of knowing you're overwriting your future to give the past a chance; time travel that results in forming new kinds of relationships with people, like becoming friends with someone who was an enemy in the old timeline. Strict honor codes. Worldbuilding. Wonder. Loyalty. Characters temporarily putting aside their weapons or sources of power as a show of trust. Best enemies, who might kill each other someday but fundamentally respect and trust each other, perhaps more than they do their nominal allies. Rivals and enemies becoming allies, or lovers, or swearing loyalty to one another. Kneeling. Unexpected mercy.
General DNWs: on-page rape/noncon, unrequested setting-change AUs (as opposed to canon divergence, which I adore), stories that are entirely about sex, time loops.
Books of the Raksura
Chronicles of the Kencyrath
The Heartstrikers Series - Rachel Aaron
Marvel 616
Star Trek: Classic Timeline
Books of the Raksura
Fandom likes: Raksura culture (I love the matriarchy and the extended-family nature of the courts). Raksuran physicality (spines, scales, brilliant colors). The vastness and strangeness of the world.
Malachite/Pearl
I love their progression from grumpy in-laws to friends, and I would like to see that relationship continue into sex and/or romance! I love Floret's line about their team-up being both scary and attractive, and the "Are you happy?" "I'm mildly gratified." exchange. I'd be delighted with either postcanon fic or something set during The Harbors of the Sun, when they're working together for the first time and freaking everyone out by doing so.
Chronicles of the Kencyrath
Fandom likes: The Kencyrath's sharp edges and sharper honor. The sheer weirdness of Rathillien. House loyalty, and the way it complicates personal relationships.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: Harm to bonded creatures (e.g. Addy, Jorin).
Aerulan of Knorth/Brenwyr of Brandan
Canon for these two is basically epic tragedy. I would be happy with exploration for that, or the shining moments of happiness before everything goes bad. Or alternately, an AU where Aerulan lives somehow and they get to live their lives together--either a pure fixit where the massacre never happens, or maybe a world where Aerulan is the only survivor (or only public survivor) and Brenwyr has to support her in her grief.
Jamethiel Priest's-bane of Knorth/Kirien of Jaran
They're both female heirs when that's shocking and unheard of, both ferociously smart; they like and respect each other, and maybe that and their common ground could grow into more? They're also both berserkers, although Kirien's flares don't manifest violently--and she doesn't know what they are, while Jame has always known how dangerous hers are (and how dangerous she is ingeneral). I'd like something exploring that! What about an AU where Jame ends up at Mt. Alban instead of Tentir? Or them acting as political allies.
Jamethiel Priest's-bane of Knorth/Nightshade of Randir
I love how Nightshade at least tries to be enemies and then bonds with Jame almost against her will. I also love their shared fondness for snakes (that scene where Addy twines around both their hands) and the bit where Shade and Addy defend Jorin. The two of them have a really interesting commonality as unfallen darklings--I'd love seeing something about that, their shared connection to the Master's House.
Kinzi of Knorth/Adiraina of Ardeth
These two were quite the power couple, weren't they? It'd be fun to see something about them manipulating bloodlines for fun, profit, and prophesy. Or, Adiraina touches Kinzi's blood and contacts her ghost through it--she's extremely reluctant to do so (the last time she touched a death banner she went blind, of course she's reluctant), but the shaken worldview + reconnecting with her lost love could be really interesting...
The Heartstrikers Series - Rachel Aaron
Fandom Likes: Postapocalyptic urban fantasy! I love the sense of chaotic new growth in this series, and the magical worldbuilding.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: If writing a Marci ship, please don't kill off Julius/have her cheat on him. I'd prefer that you set the story before Marci gets together with him, or have an AU where they never got together, or have them in an open relationship.
Amelia the Planeswalker/Marci Novalli
Amelia really wants Marci to be her treasure--and she thinks she's cute, too. (She mentions a preference for female humans, even.) She recognizes what's going on with Marci and Ghost and knows just how amazing it is! And even after Marci refuses to be hers, she trusts her with her fire and goes to the underworld with her--when Amelia is at her most vulnerable, she relies on Marci. I'd love to see more of that dynamic, or them geeking out about magic together. Or perhaps something set post-series in which they work together as goddess and archmage?
Amelia the Planeswalker/Svena the White Witch
I love their rivalry, the way they respect each other (and no one else), and the way they consider themselves enemies but also hang out and talk shop. I love that Svena both swears revenge when Amelia dies, and demands (successfully!) a life debt from her when she comes back. I love that Amelia tricked Svena into helping her become a god, and Svena still considers their rivalry ongoing. (And how does one go about a magical rivalry with one's god?)
Marci Novalli/Spirit of the DFZ
They're both smart, scrappy survivors. Marci is exactly the kind of person that made the DFZ what it is--and the spirit of the city what she is. I'd love an exploration of that. A lot of people fall in love with cities--in Marci's case it's a bit more literal than usual. Or, an AU where Marci actually did become the DFZ's Merlin? (In the latter case: I know there are ways that that could have led to the end of the world; please don't have that happen!)
Marvel 616 (X-Men & New Mutants)
Fandom likes: The chaotic, out-there world. Superpowers in daily life. All of the in-team relationships of all kinds.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: Yukio having long hair, reference to Ororo/T'Challa or to Empath/anyone.
For this fandom, I'm very open to poly ships combining my requests--if I ask for both A/B and B/C A/B/C would also be very welcome, though it may lack specific prompts.
Callisto/Ororo Munroe
I love their rivalry, their mutual respect, the way Callisto pushes Ororo to not give way to despair because damnit she's better than this. I am also really fond of Callisto's tentacles. I love them both as leaders, and how that's one of their points of connection. A scenario where one has to serve as the other's second-in-command could also be fun!
Ororo Munroe/Yukio
I loved these two together from my first encounter of Yukio, when she and Storm teamed for the first time. I loved their whole relationship--Storm wishing she could laugh like that, Storm's heart's desire being to run off with Yukio, the way Yukio seems to represent freedom to Storm.
Ororo Munroe/Madelyne Pryor
Ororo cares deeply about Madelyne; she believes Madelyne's choices matter, even at the last. And Maddy was a member of her team--she played a support role, but she was still one of the X-Men in the Outback era. I also really am not a fan of the whole Goblyn Queen thing; I'd like fixit for that happening, or Ororo challenging Maddy to be a hero again afterwards.
Raven Darkholme/Ororo Munroe
They're both formidable leaders who've won the loyalty of their followers, and they're genuinely dedicated to very different goals. Option one: antagonism, grudging respect, grudging attraction, and even more grudging feelings! Option two: a scenario where they're forced to team up (to save the mutantkind and/or the world--I admit that I was very fond of the X-Men/Freedom Force teamup in Dallas, though Ororo was sadly not involved), get to know each other better, and eventually realize that strange as it is, they actually like each other.
Irene Adler/Raven Darkholme
They're effectively married in canon, with a lifelong romance and partnership to Change the World, raising a daughter together. Irene is the only person Raven fully trusts, and even at her darkest Raven has always loved Irene. I'd love basically anything for these two, but for ideas: hashing out a plan together; Raven going to the underworld to resurrect Irene; Irene leaving messages to Raven from the past (angsty if Raven finds them after her death, but she could also send notes for Raven to find during a mission of some kind while she's still alive...).
Raven Darkholme/Madelyne Pryor
A slightly cracky pairing but one that delights me to consider. Perhaps a dark rebound? After Maddy's world has collapsed and the love of Raven's life is dead, they meet and sparks fly; it's deeply fucked up and yet... Or perhaps Raven knows about her from Irene's prophesies and seeks to recruit her?
Jean Grey/Phoenix Force
The Phoenix is obsessed with Jean in a way that can really come off as romantic! I am very into the scenario of a god falling for a mortal and then modeling itself on her (to the point where Jean is the face the Phoenix wears to most mortals). I'm into the identity stuff and the godlike power the Phoenix gives Jean, as well as the possibility that Rachel is their kid together (with or without Scott's involvement). I would also be really happy with a fantasy AU here where the Phoenix is literally a goddess falling in love with her avatar
Ange-Marie Colbert/Xi'an Coy Manh
That illusion Dani conjured of Ange-Marie's true love looked more like Shan than like any of the boys on the team. What if she was the one Shan had her crush on? If she approaches Xi'an at the dance, maybe she impulsively offers to read the cards for her future, or otherwise offers her help with her problem? Or, they meet/flirt/get together earlier and their troubles come from just having a girlfriend on the rival team? Looking for something sweet with potentially a side of fixit here.
Illyana Rasputin/Rachel Summers
They have so much in common, it's a travesty that they've never really interacted. Both grew up in hellish AUs and watched everyone they knew die before finally escaping; surely they could bond over that? They would also make a kickass team. Maybe they could work together (to survive, save the day, rescue someone from Dire Peril) and develop feelings along the way.
... The things they share do include massive subtext with Kitty Pryde; feel free to include Kitty and their relationships with her if you like. (Or not, of course!)
Danielle Moonstar/Rahne Sinclair/Sharon Smith
Dani and Rahne are canon soulmates; Rahne and Sharon are just adorable together; Dani and Sharon could interact in really neat ways if they ever had cause to do so! I love Dani's courage, and Rahne's coming out of her shell, and Sharon's odd view of the world. For prompts: Maybe they're forced to team up unexpectedly (maybe Illyana scatters the New Mutants and Hellions in time and space, and they end up having to survive together?) Or, an AU where the New Mutants stay with the Hellions longer, or the two teams have to merge for some reason? Catseye seems like she'd adjust to that much easier than the rest...
Star Trek: Classic Timeline (Rihannsu)
Fandom Likes: I adore the Rihannsu worldbuilding, as well as the respect for Uhura's linguistic skills that Duane's books had. I also enjoy the presence of weird aliens (and how even the humanoid ones like the Rihannsu and the Vulcans really are alien) as well as the sense of wonder.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: The Rihannsu turning into/evolving into the Romulans of TNG.
Ael i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu/Nyota Uhura
I ship this in part because Ael's POV narration has a line calling Uhura gorgeous--which is a small thing, except that it's also the only time she ever notices someone's appearance. I also adore both characters. Some prompts, in list form because this section got longer than usual:
- Bonding over language, the importance of an accurate translation; mnhei'sahe, the word that can never be translated entirely; perhaps they start with a matter of tactics and move on to poetry and matters of the heart?
- Uhura ends up as ambassador to Ael's empire.
- If Ael had never become empress but remained in exile instead, perhaps Uhura might join her crew for a mission of importance to both of them?
- Alternately: there are books in which Admiral Uhura is the head of Starfleet Intelligence. In that role, she could easily end up working with either Ael the empress or Ael the exile...
- Roleswap: Uhura's government is up to something (perhaps Section 31 rears its ugly head) and she works with Ael to save the Federation from itself, just as the crew of the Enterprise once helped Ael betray her Empire for its own good?
- Or, you could go for the tropey angle: the Empress of the Rihannsu makes a diplomatic marriage with a prominent Federation citizen....
General Likes & Loves: Time travel fixit; time travel with the glorious angst of knowing you're overwriting your future to give the past a chance; time travel that results in forming new kinds of relationships with people, like becoming friends with someone who was an enemy in the old timeline.
