from Wikipedia: "The name "Valentine" (Priest Valentio) does not occur in the earliest list of Roman martyrs, compiled by the Chronographer of 354. The feast of St. Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius I, who included Valentine among those "... whose names are justly reverenced among men, but whose acts are known only to God." As Gelasius implied, nothing was known, even then, about the lives of any of these martyrs."

For all the unknown saints and forgotten gods, whose works are countless and nameless in the brief and tattered histories of Man, keep them in Your sight; for all who seek love, and have not found it (may the One Source give them guidance and courage to seek further and better and wiser); for all who are prisoners of love, abused or neglected, afraid to leave or unwilling to break their half of a disgraced vow (may the One Source give them comfort in their distress and courage to break free); for the souls of those who have died in Despair, lift them into Your light; for young lovers, grant them the wisdom they do not know they lack; for those who have lost a loved one, comfort them in their grief, and give them greater faith to know that in Your embrace, all hearts will be mended and all who knew Love will be reunited.

for she who is called the Beautiful One, God's Promise to the Clan of the Gray Home, for God is Gracious; May she have wisdom as well as beauty, strength of spirit as well as grace; may she never lack caring protectors in times of need; may she know truth when she sees it, and may it be her companion through life; spare her from the snares of the unkind; May her years on the Earth be plentiful and a blessing to those around her. Amen.

Near Easter

By the way, my boss is again in charge of my schedules, so they've resumed being basically Tuesdays and Fridays off...but I'm working Good Friday the 14th to get Thursday the 13th off for personal reasons, and (I was surprised to find out) we get Easter as an unpaid holiday so I have Easter Sunday off but then must work four days in a row immediately thereafter to get my full paycheck for that week (not that I'm complaining that he was thoughtful enough to ensure I got all my hours, because I want to work and support myself and I like my job). Generally, though, Tuesdays and Fridays.

hmmmm...maybe I should communicate with my brother before making any Easter plans (not that I need to plan anything...I could just go to Easter mass, have a brunch, and do housework all day and get caught up...oh, and eat candy. I saw white chocolate bunnies today. Mmmmm.)

This entry is poorly written but I haven't time to fix it. (I should make that my sig. file, or get a rubbber stamp made up. )

1. In honor of the holiday, a few statements overheard at work today...

"They've been selling like madcakes..."

(female associate bantering with male associate) "Get your mind out of my gutter."

(two employeees leaving lunchroom) "Oh, put your clothes on!"

2. Mal wanted to post a recipe for Madcakes. I was skeptical of this recipe, especially since the ingredients includes "Enough cinnamon to choke a small horse, (such as a Shetland Pony)" and "three drops of human blood from a willing healthy donor (may be omitted if neccessary)". Reading down, 2 cups of the cinnamon go into the batter, 1 tablespoon is mixed with butter and spread over the tops and the rest is to be, and this is very important, he says, thrown into the air above your head while you shout "Whheeeee!!!". It's just not a Madcake without that.

3. I should observe Friend RC's birthday by posting how his DC Heroes game went at Con, but alas, in real-life, unlike in that game, I lack superspeed powers and so must put it off for a night when I'm not getting over a sinus infection, getting up early for church in the 'morrow, and losing an hour to Daylight Savings.
