Today I continued the Who Christmas run with The Runaway Bride.

Bride starts something that becomes a tradition of Who Christmas eps: that Christmas eps have one off companions. This one features Donna, who goes on to return as a companion in season 4. She’s the titular bride, although it’s less runaway (which implies choice) more… I dunno.

It’s a bit of a sad ep, being right after Rose left and Donna is kinda abrasive at the start (understandably so, she was ‘abducted’ from her wedding and it just gets worse from there) though she does soften over the ep.

Unlike the last one the Doctor is in it a lot more which is great. Although at the end he does… almost go too far (which we see the result of if he had, surprisingly, a few seasons later)

The villain here is the racnoss, an ancient spider race(ugh, though the whole costume is impressive) though Lance is a much more human villain (what an utter fucking bastard he was)

Unanswered question of the ep: Where were the Torchwood employees running the facility? Was it all automated? Were the robots running it?

Other thing now.

Update on shed kitty. I wasn’t able to check the shed yesterday, but today I went down and they were there again (or there still?) I couldn’t see if they ate the food because the food pot was gone. I did take some more food back down, but they were nowhere to be seen (I still left it though)

Last night I did some more on The Quarry, doing chapter one. I did make the choice I’ve seen no one make and the result is different enough to make me wonder if it makes something else change too. I’m hoping to do more later.

Net has been flickers still, which is annoying. It’s likely due to the cold but still, it’s annoying.

I found out that the Magnus archives is getting a sequel, called The Magnus Protocol which is coming out next year. There was a kickstarter that I managed to get in (to do a small amount) but it’ll be coming out for free like archives was (starting next October).

I also did icons on the laptop this morning. Problem was I found out my mouse wasn’t working cause the… thing (receiver?) was somehow damaged. Ugh. I haven’t switched the icons round yet though

So today I started the Christmas ep rewatch of Doctor Who. It’s unlikely I’ll get beyond the 10th Doctor specials before the day (I should’ve started this before but didn’t think too). It’s been so long since I’ve watched any of them, so here is the thoughts on The Christmas Invasion

Tomorrow I’m hoping to watch The Runaway Bride, which I’ve also not seen for so long.

As mentioned in the last post, I’m doing snowflake so here’s the promo:

Yesterday I ended up being so drained so didn’t do The Quarry like I hoped. I did do some more Pokémon and did one of the gyms (yay!). Foolish did a stream though alas, his pretty hair is gone 😔 I took psychic damage from each cut so stopped watching but… ugh

The net has been flicky again lately which is so annoying.

I tried the m and s reindeer bao buns a few nights back… but alas the two I had weren’t nice. They were too thick and nowhere near enough filling and it makes me so sad (and also they were kinda crunchy?)

Twitter tried to put out a disastrous new policy a last night, then backtracked and now it seems Elon might be stepping from running it. If so good because that man is so thin skinned and petty.

I’m sure I had another thought but my head is empty.

Now I’m watching the Xbox uk stream while mum is zzz and then… I dunno. I might fic some or do Pokémon or something. (And hopefully do The Quarry some more later) or I might work some on the who red post

Yesterday turned out to be a lazy day. I didn’t really read and dozed in the afternoon, then again at night I got really tired after the streams.

We still had no sign of the door guy. Apparently there’s some issue getting the ‘right kind’ of door. To be honest I’d rather not get one at all. Leia likes coming in the garage, especially when it’s wet, and she meows in there to be let in. With the door there’ll be no way for her to do that.

Today hasn’t been too exciting, I’ve done my stuff on AC (other than KK), listened to a magnus Archives and walked the pup. Even though I’m still not comfortable going out around people I’ve started doing my trips to the co-op, where I go at about 5 to look for discounted stuff. The goal is usually for the nice bread but I’ve had fruit and veg and other stuff too. Today was leeks, blueberries, spring onions and grapes.

Also today was the start of Drama’s run of the tenth Doctor eps. Again, I’m puzzled why it didn’t start with the Christmas invasion. That meant it started right with series 2: New Earth, Tooth And Claw and School Reunion.

New Earth is an ep I do love, probably because it’s a sequel to my favourite series one eps (The End of The World). Outside of mult part eps, Who has very few episodes like that. Which is a shame really. One thing that really makes the ep is Cassandra, who is a really fun character. (I remember hearing somewhere they wanted a familiar character back to act as an ‘introduction’ to Ten.) Since there is also body swapping with her, you also need actors he can pull it off and, thankfully everyone manages it. As such it’s funny, sweet and a little sad. And the face of Boe ends it being enigmatic. (Though could have saved some issues next season if he wasn’t.) It’s also funny that the first ep of new Who set on an alien world is called... New Earth.

Second ep is Tooth and Claw, a werewolf tale set in Scotland featuring Queen Victoria. It starts, as is often the case, with the Tardis taking the Doctor to the wrong time. (I remember a quote about it that it doesn’t take him where he wants to go but where he needs to.) Then they get involved in a bunch of monks serving a werewolf, in hopes of turning Queen Victoria into one. Of course it doesn’t go too well (mostly because there was a trap within a trap). It’s another good ep, the werewolf looks great, Queen Victoria gets to shoot someone and Torchwood is established. (Though you have to admit, in universe Torchwood is a tad useless at catching the Doctor, only getting him at the end of the series despite being around for over 100 years.)

Lastly was School Reunion, which was the first ep to definitely confirm that the series was a continuation of the original run due to the appearance of Sarah Jane and K9. (An appearance that earned her own series, which if you haven’t seen you should totally watch.) it’s another fun ep, but also manages to be poignant too, establishing why the Doctor never looks back and what happens to those left behind (and the banter with Sarah Jane and Rose is so fun). plus Mickey finally ends up coming on a trip in the tardis at the end.

Series 2 as a whole is one of the strongest series I think, though I’ve not watched it for awhile. in fact I’ve not watched any of Ten’s eps for awhile so it’ll be interesting to watch them all again.

Next week though I won’t be able to watch them in the afternoon, because mums friend is paying us a visit. Or is meant to be. I’m not sure if it’ll go through. She was meant to come weeks ago but never did so... who knows. It’ll be the first time someone from outside the house has come in since lockdown started. So yeah, that’ll be strange.

I’m not sure what I’ll do tonight. I might game and try to watch something on shudder again, or watch something else. (I’m not sure if I’ll keep the shudder subscription though so I’m gonna have to watch more on it)
