I just got back from Comic-Con, and I made a point to attend both the Funimation panel as well as the Kodansha panel while I was there.
First off, if Funi has gotten the rights to the anime, they didn't say anything. This didn't really surprise me, though. I have the feeling that if they have gotten it, they will make their announcement at Otakon.
I got a bit more info on the soon-to-be re-released manga at the Kodansha panel. First off, they are not reprinting the old Mixx version; they are doing their own translation. They are keeping the original names and will be doing everything to stay as faithful to the original manga as possible. (I didn't think to ask if it would be printed in the original right-to-left format, but I think it's a good guess that they will.) They will have everything approved by both Kodansha and Naoko herself before it is printed.
Volumes will be released bi-monthly. There will be two volumes of Sailor V, 12 of Sailor Moon, and two additional volumes of side-stories.
While it's not planned at the moment, they may arrange for the series to be downloaded electronically in the future. They are planning on setting up Facebook and Twitter accounts in the near future, they simply haven't had the time to do so yet because of their workload.
Someone did ask about the anime and musicals and whatnot. The rep said that they would obviously love to have all of that available, however, their contract is strictly for the manga. As such, they don't know what may happen with them.
No really big news, obviously. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was curious what was said at the panels. Oh, and I got a really cute poster for free! It's the same image that is on the cover of the first volume of the new manga. ^_^
I've been on the lookout for any BSSM items at the con... but I haven't seen much. One booth has some nice figurines of the inner senshi, but they're expensive (like $250.00), and a couple of wallscrolls. That's about it. I've spotted a few cosplayers, but I haven't been able to get close enough to get any good pictures. Well, there's still three more days to go.
ETA: Oops! I forgot to mention that the manga will keep all of the references to Japanese culture, mythology, and whatnot, and that they will have translations notes in the back to explain things for western fans who are unfamiliar with them.
