So I'm editing my interests when I realize that I still have the Sacred Alliance listed as an interest! I really hope someone occasionally checks here, because I'm feeling all nostalgic now.
Um, in case you're wondering, I'm Jamie, formerly of the SA. It may or may not surprise you to find I'm currently rereading Anne McCaffrey's dragon books. =P
Anyone here?

surprised
Brian had been awfully sketchy in his actions for awhile before he proposed. When he told me that what we were doing for our anniversary/Valentine's Day, I was extremely suspicious. However, the night that it happened I kept telling myself to not get my hopes up for my present. I kept telling myself that I was getting a DVD instead of "twinkly". He made reservations at this French restaurant in DC that serves cuisine from Languedoc, where I stayed when I was in France. It's a very cute place right across the street from the Ford theatre, but it wasn't "as nice" as Brian had expected thus he didn't propose there. During dinner, which was amazing, he asked me my favorite spots in DC and I rattled off a few.
After dinner we walked along the Mall, which was challenging because there had been a snow and ice storm the week before and I was wearing heels that were slightly too big. The entire Mall was shining from the lights that shined on the monuments and their reflection in the ice. We walked for a good while until we got to the Lincoln Memorial. Abe was chilling with wreaths in front of his pedastal (gifts for his birthday) and there were many tourists milling about taking pictures and yelling at their children. When we walked back outside, we stood on the steps for awhile looking at the Washington monument, Capitol and Reflecting Pool. Brian said a few things that I don't remember, got down on one knee in the slush wearing his good suit and said, "Amber Lee, will you marry me?", flashed the bling and I giggle cried "yes." I'm not much of a giggler, but I proceeded to giggle the entire way back to the Metro, which was a good 10 blocks and left my feet pretty badly mangled the next day. It was fair glorious and the next day we celebrated as true Chicagoans---with pizza from Gino's East and a glass of champagne. Classy we are.

nostalgic
Well, Alliance, the Prophecy has come to pass. I am getting married in March of 2009. :-) There will be no little Alliancers for a long time.
Amber: Well Alliance, another year has come again. What will the new year bring? A whole new crop will be off to colleges and universities across the country. How weird is that? We started as a merry band of junior highers (and younger) with a few high schoolers thrown into the mix. Now, we're off to college. How many other message boards can say that?
Juliette: Very scary. I say, one of us needs to have a baby. Uh, within the next twenty years.
Amber: Entirely possible. We could make our own line of children's stories: "Meet the Sacred Alliance," "Off to College!" "_____ Gets Married," "The Alliance becomes Aunts and Uncles."
Okay. So, we've done the college thing. And some of us are off and doing (or trying to do) the full time work thing.
Is there anything else we should know about?
Hm?
Hey everyone,
It's been a long, long, long time since I've written to many of you. I hope all is well with everyone. To keep with the general theme of reading, I'm currently on The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. I highly enjoy it.
Well, I was just posting to say hi. Hope to hear from you!
Cheers,
Amber

It's been ages since I've posted here; it seems like it's that way for most of us.
Hope everyone is doing well in life and reading interesting things (when you've got the time).
I haven't been reading much aside from college texts the last six months or so. (I am 'reading' a variety of things at once, currently. May I recommend The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath and Murder of Angels by Caitlin R. Kiernan.)
Other than that, let's get some updates in here, shall we? What is everyone up to? Life wise, education wise?
I'm in my last semester at Middle Tennessee State University. (Finally! It's been 5 years.) Oddly enough (to me, at least) I have a job ready for me after graduation--I'm actually working part-time at it now. It's as a Marketing Specialist with a private company based in Nashville.
What to say about it? I get to write...mostly technical--grants, proposals, that type of thing--and do marketing research and some random other things. Other than that...it's a job, it will give me experience. I think in a year or a little more I'll be ready to get the hell out of there and out of Tennessee and do something a little closer to my degree/interests. (Editing/copy-writing; grad school...)
Other than that my personal life is good and I'm still plugging away at my fiction, both fan (and the fandoms just keep coming) and original, and slowly working toward getting more of the original sent out for [possible] publication. (Keeping hold of my creativity has become a bit of an effort these last six months, however.)
What say the rest of you? Let's liven up this place a little.

contemplative
Tonight I realized how stagnant I've become in terms of reading and music. I'm beginning to feel like my parents, whose claim to book-loving is only evidenced by two cardboard boxes of paperbacks moldering in the basement. I need some rescuing. Any recommendations of books and/or bands?
PS (in response to Bridget's post): I'm all for the resurrection of the round robin. I wouldn't mind having any occasional pen pals, either. If anyone's interested email me at marasmiusoreades@insightbb.com.

Ok, so here's my problem: I make a post and then I never check it for who's replied. Heh. Anyway, back in February I asked if anyone was interested in doing the round robin again, and Jess said she'd send me mail. =) So once again: Anyone want to do it? Or, since it seems to be cursed, just exchange addresses? I love getting real mail. And writing letters will distract me from schoolwork, which is always an added bonus. =P Let me know; you can always e-mail me your address at blowery@luc.edu.

So I know that once upon a time on our beloved boards Jess posted the order you are supposed to read the Chronicles of Narnia in, or the order they were published in, something like that, as opposed the chronological order which is how they seem to be appearing now. Does anyone know what the true/published order is? I've never read them, and with the movie coming out I thought it might be a good idea.

Something I thought you all would appreciate: I don't remember where, exactly, it was. But on Sunday I was in a store and I happened to walk by a stuffed dog. A pink poodle to be exact. Heh.
