I’ve mentioned this a lot, but it’s worth repeating: 2017 has been a year when I’ve found it pretty difficult to focus enough to read or watch narrative television. So it's probably not that surprising that music has been especially important to me this year. It’s been a good companion on my commutes and long work-related drives, and it’s been the soundtrack for solo runs, short and long.

So here are my 17 songs for 2017. They're not necessarily favorites, or even the best songs that I encountered this year. Instead I narrowed down this list to those songs that will remind me intensely of this particular period of my life when I hear them sometime in the far future. I've mentioned most of them before on this DW, but it seems worthwhile to collect them in one place.

What are you listening to these days?

Current amusements in my k-pop fannish world include year-end K-pop music festival performances. Remix versions of the year's hits! Over-the-top dance breaks! Currently trendy acts covering k-pop classics! Special occasion costuming!

This album is exactly I wanted it to be: playful, melodic, clever, catchy, fun. I'm sitting here appreciating 수현's clear voice and 찬혁's compositions all over again. It's great happy music for spring. I got my copy on iTunes.

In other news, my fondness for this album makes it even more obvious how meh I am about the two finalists for K-Pop Star 3. Ah well.
