Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is a progressive autoimmune disease that is caused by predominant IgA deposition in the glomerular mesangium and can lead to kidney failure. It primarily affects young adults (ages 16-35), with a predominance in males. IgAN is the most common cause of kidney failure in this patient population and the most common cause of glomerulonephritis worldwide.
