Hey all,

time sure flies! We’re now one and a half weeks away from December. Felt like a good time to check in and ask how corralling all those recs are going, maybe give a nudge to those that may not have signed up yet.

So how are things going?

womansplace is doing a companion event, focused on characters who identify as women or who are aligned with womanhood. So that’s one community worth keeping in mind. Anybody else running a community they’d like to welcome folks to cross post to?

Heyyy I have a couple of comms where recs are allowed and encouraged! (And where we've promoted rec_cember)

vampiremedia for anything related to vampires

fourormore for ships with 4 or more people

polyamships for every other kind of poly ship

I'd love to encourage people to rec poly works specially since those are often lacking some love due to the rarity of the ships.

me, looking at my 121 open tabs: I'm certainly reading and watching a lot of things lol

I haven't gotten started on the actual lists but I have some ideas on where to go (at least one of them will be for my ultra rare ships... so rare it's pretty much raw)

I currently have seven fandoms covered for the fic recs, plus one for fanart. And then IWTV showed up and stole all my attention. I’m imposing a limit there so I can get going on the rest *g*

Current plan is Fanart Friday for four separate fandoms, and then a single fic rec for a new fandom the remaining six days, outside of the big post for IWTV (and hopefully Stranger Things).

I’ve added the rec-cember tag to

ourflagmeansgay,

the_old_guard,

disneyplusshows (Marvel and Star Wars), and

she_was_xena. All comms have had single rec posts before, so it’s more than welcome, no matter the amount.

Fanart Friday!! I'm very excited for that, as I definitely rely on recs for most fanart. :D

And yay Stranger Things! Sounds like you have lots of other fandoms represented, too!

I'm doing my dang best to try for one fandom per day :D The reason I'm elsewhere than DW at any given point is all the wonderful art, but sadly most platforms don't give you an easy way to look back on them.

My rec list has fics for Inazuma Eleven and Scum Villain's Self-Saving System which amounts to 50 or 70 something fic recs. I'm thinking of making recs based on different themes like ships, fandom, rating, and/or something else.

It's my first time doing something like this so I decided to stop looking for recs outside of AO3 as that was my main goal.

Thanks for the code to promote it on our journals! I made a post but will make another one! Maybe even crosspost on Tumblr.

Whew, that's a big number. But dues make themed recs possible. I know I've always found it so interesting to watch vidshows; there's so much to be gained by what's been paired together.

I'm in spreadsheet hell (affectionate). It turns out my AO3 bookmarks alone span enough fandoms than if I post one fandom daily then I'll have enough for the whole month plus a good chunk of a hypothetical rec-(jan)uary XD And then some fandoms have like a dozen fics, others have like 50+ (or 100+, in a few cases 😒). Hence the spreadsheets, lol. That ao3 downloader bookmarklet is really coming in clutch for me on this, tbh. And then mail merging will get me the rest of the way 🙂.

I still have to pick out my 50 favorite fics I read this year for the 31st, though... 😅 Hopefully I'll be able to move my focus to that next week!

Regardless, this is a really fun project to work on! I'm excited!

AO3 downloader bookmarklet? What's that? :O

The AO3 Works List CSV Bookmarklet! It downloads a page at a time of AO3 works as a CSV file with a bunch of the metadata for each work (e.g. title, link, chapter count, tags, summary). I'd gotten it from here, but the site isn't loading for me? So here's the wayback machine link!
