In case anyone was keeping track, I’ve changed the URL to my art blog. Also, hey did you know I have art only blog?
Hey artists coming to tumblr, I have one small piece of advice for you:
Have an art blog that's separate from your reblogging things blog.
It doesn't have to be anything fancy, and it doesn't even have to be your main blog. Mine is literally just a side blog that I reblog all my art to after I post it on this one.
There are two big reasons for this:
1. It gives people a quick and easy way to see your art in once place. Having an art tag is good too! But with the way tumblr has been mucking up tags and searches, it's just more reliable to have a standalone location on the internet for your work.
2. If someone likes your work but not your reblogs, it gives them another avenue to follow you for your artwork.
I dunno about you, but if someone's blog posts a ton of content that I'm not interested with one or two art posts a month, I probably won't follow them there. But if they have a separate blog that only has their own art on it, I am ABSOLUTELY giving them a follow.
Tumblr is the Posting Fandom Bullshit website but it is also the Curating Your Dashboard Experience website. If you want eyeballs on your artwork, you gotta give someone a reason why they should put you on their dashboard!!
Update: I have one second piece of advice for artists and non-artists alike: browse the tags and replies to this post for a ton of new art blogs to follow

Contemporary art haters will be like "i don't get it" and then not read the title or artist statement or the medium or the year or
How to “get it”:
- Ask yourself, how does this piece make you feel? (No wrong answers)
- Look for an artist statement nearby. What does it say about the artist and their relationship to their work? What does the artist say that they are trying to convey with their art? What contextual clues can you pick up from what they say about their background, or what they omit?
- Look at the title of the piece. What is the artist saying about their work by naming it that, either explicitly or implicitly?
- Look at the medium. Is there anything about the piece that stands out to you, knowing what it’s made of?
- Look at the year it was made. What cultural events might have been happening around this time? Was this piece part of a particular art movement? What was the purpose of that art movement, and what was it trying to say?
- Accept that sometimes, you still might not get it. This is perfectly okay.

I think it has to do with my art tag having spaces in it? Because my hall of fame tag link also broke. Maybe I should just come up with a new tag for those anyway, since tumblr's search function is still trash. So I guess I'm coming up with a new art tag.
not that anyone was chomping at the bit to hear the end of this, but i fixed it!! new art tag is ‘ragsymakes’ which is going to be less likely to pull false positives with posts that aren’t actually mine in blog search. it’s also less confusing. i’ve had people think my cosplay photos are drawings because they were tagged as “i drew this” and that’s! weird! so this should fix that. okay thanks
