TADC 'Rezoobled' au is retired, sorry. I'll be rebranding this blog soon. Creative asks welcome! You want help with an idea? I'm your gal! Or just share your opinions. Pronouns: SHE/HER

just witnessed something devastating

guy on the subway with one ear pierced, little gold hoop. other guy on the subway very quickly and subtly googling "which one is the gay ear". it is not the gay ear. visible disappointment on his face as he puts his phone away.

three scenes about animals and facing the music

totally unrelated to one another, i’m sure

first two scenes are from the book, chapters 4 and 15, edited slightly for format

edit: added alt text IDs by @nebulations - thank you!

sketches for two supervillains from a superhero setting ive been working on on-n-off for a lil bit now. a very small sketch of Major Mayhem, undead warmonger, and some proper stuff about THE NAIL, theatrical low tier villain (by choice, its only in it for the love of the game, you see)

this is a bit random, but i love reading your thoughts on writing, even when i disagree i enjoy hearing what you have to say :D do you have any youtubers you watch that make good videos about writing? or just media analysis! looking for recommendations if you have any to share! or any books about writing advice! you're cool!!!

Awwww, you're welcome! That's very kind of you to say. You're cool too! I love reading other people's thoughts as well.

Media analysis is fun, and I love discussing media with people. There are a lot of smart YouTubers I can recommend, lemme think...

• Lindsay Ellis

• Sarah Z

• The Sin Squad (if you have trouble finding her channel, try 'ratatouille video essay' or 'the lorax video essay')

• HBomberguy

• Ro Moknee

• Door Monster

• Studio Binder

• Stubagful

• Kooki914

• Outstanding Screenplays

• Overly Sarcastic Productions

same anon as before! omg i completely agree with you! especially your conclusion that atla seriously did not need romance and that the romance undermined the character writing! also i agree that sokka and suki are the only well written romance, they are really cute, but tbh i think it's cause they are more of a background pairing that lend to the good romance writing. every canon relationship in atla that gets a lot of focus tends to be a bit hard to watch XD it's also why i couldn't get into korra no matter how many times i tried, the romance subplot of season 1 is just too hard for me to get through...

Yeah fr, I totally get what you mean. It's also such a shame because we really need more well written female protags out there and Korra just isn't it. I'm definitely not the first person to point this out but there was a compelling Korra arc *right there*. Like, Korra struggling with airbending, the element symbolising freedom and free spirit? Bollocks. That's not opposite to Korra at all. They should've had a girl from the Water Tribe struggle to bend *water*. She's the Avatar, she can do every other element just fine, but her native element is what she struggles with. Water requires flexibility, emotional openness and a sense of community, which is exactly what Korra struggles with. How do you overcome that shame and judgement when you're a Water Tribe girl at odds with your own culture?

Korra's a hothead and an individualist, someone lacking spirituality who thinks she can brute-force her way into any problem. And when that doesn't work for Korra, she feels like running away (like Aang - not unlike an airbender at all). Water is about becoming one with the current and admitting that you can't exist on your own; nobody lives in a vacuum. Not even the Avatar. They had something interesting with Amon and the anti-bending movement, but they don't even try to tackle the conflict earnestly. The non-benders are ignorant and Amon is secretly a bender, end of story. Villains are never right about anything! It's a common problem with lots of fantasy stories where 'non-magical people' are oppressed and their struggle isn't taken seriously. Imagine if Korra had to connect with the spirit world and get help from a non-bender like...gosh, I dunno...Sokka? Just saying. 🤨

Legend of Korra isn't devoid of good ideas, but the execution is bad. Ik people say Book 3 is better, but I can't be arsed. I'm not gonna live forever. It's not worth watching more LOK when I was never invested in the first place.

i love kataang (my favorite atla straight ship) but the romance itself was written extremely badly in canon. and everything post canon with them leaves a sour taste in my mouth. which is such a shame since i think their friendship is lovely. i think it's the "main guy gets the man girl" aspect of it that bothers me too, even if it was well written it would be in the back of my mind that it's following that annoying trope/formula, hence why i kinda wish it wasn't canon.

i'm not really a zutara shipper, but i think the reason zutara works so well partially because we never got to see the writers mess it up. them not being canon allowed so many creative people to come up with great scenarios for their romance. i think i wouldn't really like it to be canon though (similar reasons as to why i dislike kataang being canon, it would just always feel like it's falling on tropes, instead of hero gets the girl it would feel like the villain gets the girl he previously wronged and who hated him as a reward for his redemption, regardless if it's written well or not), but it's a great fanon ship. i think the revolutionary thing would have been to have katara stay single or just leave it open ended as to who she got with.

i agree with most of your analysis except the part where you say aang doesn't support katara's anger, which is not really true. at the northern water tribe for example when paku denied to teach katara waterbending aang thought katara was completely justified in her anger and got angry on her behalf himself, to the point he himself was ready to reject being tought by paku. the reason he's so pacifismpilled in the southern raiders ep is because katara's anger in that ep is directly paralleling his own anger in the previous season over losing appa, especially in the episode the desert, which was destructive and bad for him and others. buuut he's also kinda annoying and moralizing in the southern raiders and katara did not need his preachy advice and zuko was right that she needed to confront it directly, however she felt about it, so i get the frustration. but yeah aang isn't the type of person who shuts down katara's anger out of misogyny, in fact he often stands up for her when she deals with misogyny, he's just a pacifist and tends to moralize when giving advice, hence why he messed up how he handled the situation imo. but everything about his romance with katara is eyerolling i completely agree with you on, he's beyond pushy with her and it always reads as sleezy. i know he's 12 but he's also a fictional character written by adult men, so we have full right to criticize it, like bryke that's not my boy why are you writing him like that!

Thank you for the thoughtful ask! I really enjoyed reading it. :))

You make some excellent points. And yeah, I completely forgot Aang's support in the Northern Water Tribe episode. That's my bad XD time to rewatch the show again haha.

I absolutely agree with you though. When I was younger, I wanted Zutara to get together in canon, but I feel completely different now. Katara (and most of the characters in Atla) do not need romance, they need space and time. They need to enjoy the little time they have before they grow up (having to be 'adults' during the war is a heavy toll) and romance is not the right direction for Atla. I would say in general that Atla isn't the best at writing romance, with the exception being Sokka and Suki. They were cute together! And Sokka's feminism arc was great as well. I prefer romance in general to be weaved into another thread of storytelling/arcs, rather than having the WHOLE arc be 'they fall in love, that's the story'. There's not much I can say about Sokka and the Northern Princess because their time together was very short. I will say though that Katara's romantic flings (Jet, the Earthbender boy) felt shallow writing-wise, and the male gaze felt pretty heavy in those scenes. It felt very much like 'ew Katara no, don't go after Bad Boys, pick the Nice Guy!' That being said, it's been a while since I rewatched the show, so I might be missing something.

But yeah tldr: romance in Atla is not really necessary, especially endgame romance. For me personally, the romance/Kataang endgame in Book 3 was the weakest link, and it low-key undermined Katara and Aang's development. I wish Aang was challenged more, and Katara's scenes felt very unfinished. We go from Katara not wanting to kiss Aang, to Katara and Aang kissing at the end credits like it's a Disney film. Holy whiplash batman.

a rare closeup of a black swift, found throughout north america and small parts of south america. swifts are rarely seen up close; they spend more of their life in air than any other species of bird - they eat, drink, mate and sleep while in flight. they are incapable of perching like other birds; they must cling to vertical surfaces.

I had to look this up because “sleep while in flight” ????

but yeah, apparently completely true.  these birds stay aloft for as much as 10 months nonstop, feed on insects, spend more energy at night (when there aren’t warm thermals to ride) and at dawn and dusk climb to 10,000 ft altitude where the 30 min slow descent is probably when they catch their sleep.

they’re unusually long-lived for such active critters (20 yrs) and they may be limiting energy expenditure by being extremely aerodynamic and narrow bodied.  Also a single bird travels the distance of about 7 roundtrip journeys to the moon in its lifetime (>3 million miles).

More swaps because they’re my little darlings I can’t stop drawing

What if we were both big and kissing and business partners and gay and also boys 🥺

Azure, Paler Than the Sky

FINALLY finished this piece, which I started over a year ago. Juri's 2nd duel is one of my favorite moments in Utena. There are so many gut-wrenching shots that I couldn't get out of my head, so I had to draw them all. This'll be available as a print at Lightbox Expo this year!
