As of this morning, we now have 5 fuzz-covered chicks in the house, at least until they get big enough to toss outside. Yay urban farming.

2 years or so since last post. Still alive. Only read LJ once in a blue moon for the rare thing that hasn't migrated to facebook. Don't know why I haven't deleted this account. *twiddles thumbs*

I want a rock to wind a string around

I really need to see TMBG more than once a decade. They were on fire tonight. Best show I've been to in a long long time. I had no idea Seattle had so many fans of the band... the Showbox Sodo, one of Seattle's largest non-stadium venues, was packed.

TMBG

I'm going to a They Might Be Giants show tonight! One of my favorite (Top of the list at one time) bands ever. I haven't seen then live in over a decade, when they did a show at my college. Every time they're in Seattle, I only find out about it afterwards. Not this time. And they're playing what sounds like will be the entirety of my favorite album, Flood. So stoked.

I'm in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island for a week, taking a wilderness EMT class.  A schooling vacation, if you will...

Despite growing up in the area, I've managed to never have been to this particular island before. I'm sitting at the harbor, watching a ferry offload, and admiring the view of the water. It's nice. It would be lovely except for the car alarm that keeps going off nearby.

Out of the three major species of edible native berries in these parts, I like thimble berries the best. However, they're not quite in season yet. Salmon berries, on the other hand, are very much ripe for the picking right now.

Store bought fruit doesn't hold a candle to fresh-picked, especially when it's off of wild plants instead of farmed. Mmm...

Backpacking next weekend

Finally settled on a place to go: Over in the Olympics, along the Hoh River, with a few side excursions to make up 3 days. Not a loop, but more of a Y shape. Now to get a permit and a bear can for food (Why an ordinary bear bag setup isn't enough, I don't know, but it's what's in the ONP rules...)

The problem with a literal video version of a They Might Be Giants music video... how can you tell? It's the sort of thing that the band would deliberately do.
