Translations: The Seattle Transgender Film Festival, May 7-10

Translations: The Seattle Transgender Film Festival, now in its 4th year, is happening May 7-10, 2009. Out of the entire world, Seattle is one of a handful of places that has a transgender specific film festival, so since it's in your back yard (much closer than the Netherlands or San Francisco), make sure to come on out.

Highlights include:
*Opening night party at Cafe Stellina on 12th and Pike
*Discussion of digital media and gender variance
*Documentary on black transmen called Still Black
*Rare screening of a vintage transplotation film: Let Me Die a Woman

For more information and to purchase tickets visit: http://threedollarbillcinema.org/0….

Translations is produced in partnership by Three Dollar Bill Cinema, producer of the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and Gender Odyssey, producer of the Gender Odyssey conference and is supported in part this year with a generous grant from the Pride Foundation.

Local non-profit that serves free food outside of Starbucks every week is losing it's kitchen and needs a place to cook 1:30-4:00 pm every Sunday. We are _very_ respectful of space and will always leave it neater than we found it. Does anyone have a kitchen in Bellingham, or know someone who might have one to offer?

As most of you have probably heard, today the Washington State Supreme Court released an opinion upholding DOMA and it's ban on gay marriage. COME PROTEST WITH ME!

There is a meeting in Seattle (check out Equal Rights Washington's website for more info) and one in Bellingham (5:30 at Taco Lobo).

I'm contacting everyone I know so we can make this huge, I hope you are too.

Come celebrate Pride (x posted)

Hey All!

Tomorrow the New Queer Alliance is sponsering Pride Day at Whatcom Community College. This is a great time to celebrate the LGBT rights movement, since both Tim Eyeman's campaign and the Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage have both recently failed. Events will include:

Speakers begining at 11:30 in Syre Auditorium, including a representative from Evergreen Aids Foundation and Jay Friedman, a Seattle based sex educator.

Pride Fair in Syre foyer from 11:00-2:00 with informational booths from various organizations and a "kiss a Queer" booth, where a buck gets you a smooch from a queer (and of course the money goes to a good cause).

Film festival in Syre 104 starting at 11:00. We're showing D.E.B.s, Brokeback Mountain, and Transamerica.

You don't have to be a student to enjoy these events, this is for the whole community.

Dudes, I just found this on my computer and I have no idea when it was written (although its pretty easy to tell who wrote it). Was this ever published? If not, is should be updated a bit and submitted to the "Whore-izon" because it's kick ass!

Okay, not to be annoying (whoa! two posts in one week! Get outta here...), but would it be possible to get that NQA T-shirt from you Janice before the Day of Silence? I was going to order an official Day of Silence T-shirt, but I'm not sure that it will be here in time, so I thought the NQA club shirt would do just as well. You can give me a call or drop me an e-mail and let me know if I can come and get it. Thanks!

Day of Silence

Hey all. Did we ever register for Day of Silence at the website so that we're "official" participants? If not, let me know. I'd be happy to go on there and register us. Hope you all have fun at the conference! ;-)

Hello Everyone!

My name is Katharine and I'm a student at Whatcom. I've been meaning to join the NQA for ages but, like nearly everyone else on the planet, I'm very busy. Or I pretend to be. I hope nobody minds me posting here, I'm not really sure if there's anything specific I'm supposed to do...

Anyway, I know I'm going to have some difficulty attending meetings, because of my work schedule, but I will try my hardest to make it. I'm really excited about joining, and ask any questions if there's anything you'd like to know about me.
