It was Phil's arrival to Darrow which finally set Pepper's thinking into action. For many months, she had been viewing Darrow as a separate entity, a setting in which she had to carefully match herself with the expectations and customs of the natives. But as time went on, Pepper began realizing that there was less and less of a reason to distinguish herself from the people she knew and interacted with every day. Whether or not there was a deeper reason behind Darrow being constructed the way it was, on a daily basis, it didn't matter the people she passed every day were as wholly people as anyone she knew back home, and to operate under some assumption that they weren't was unfair.
As such, Pepper began paying closer attention.
The area that receives the most of Pepper's attention now is the organization that calls themselves Kirin, as well as the smaller group within, Kirin's Horn. She's been realizing with greater and greater frequency that many of her colleagues identify themselves as being a part of that organization, and listening to some of them speak about their motivations for being part of DARKLab has been illuminating. Some of them have what might best be described as a scientific interest.
Others are involved in an effort to keep up with some perceived race, making sure that their own people can defend themselves in the event of some indescribable disaster. It's a fascinating dynamic.
Which brings Pepper to her natural course of action calling Natasha to her apartment for a bit of a brainstorm. All that Pepper knows is that she doesn't simply want to be the observer on the scene anymore. Being passive can only be helpful up to a point.
